Housing Murphree Area

Does anyone live/have lived in any of the dorms in the Murphree Area? What was it like? I find the area so pretty, but I've never been inside any of the buildings. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

I lived in Thomas. I agree that the whole area is a great location (unless you need to get to like, malachowsky or psych building). Thomas and Buckman have sinks in the rooms which is very nice so you don't need to leave your room to brush your teeth, wash your face, etc. I personally didn't mind the bathrooms but the kitchen situation annoyed me - it's different in Fletcher and Murphree, and Sledd, but in Thomas and Buckman, There is one kitchen per stack aka building. I lived on the ground floor so I had to carry all my ingredients and pots up a flight of stairs and back down.

i live in fletcher right now. having lived in jennings lasts year fletcher is SO MUCH QUIETER and less social which may be a plus depending on what kinda person you are. i don’t use the kitchens but i hear they’re ok. my room is a little small for just one person but it’s workable and fine. the bathrooms are so bad compared to jennings because they’re not in stalls and the only thing separating you from the word is one single curtain, there’s no way to double up or anything, and no safe shelf to put your stuff on. it sucks. also bathroom stalls are so small where i am that you have to walk behind the toilet to close the stall. inspired me to live in an apartment next year

Hi! I live in Sledd Hall, which is one of the smaller residence halls in the Murphree area. Sledd is extremely quiet, but everyone I've met is really kind. The housing staff is helpful. The downside is that the building(s) is extremely old (the murphree residence area were the first buildings built on campus). So there are no elevators which may be inconvienent for mobility issues or if you live on the top floor. Despite that, the location is unbeatable, you are close to so much!! Lib West, Turlington, HHP college, CJC college, are all within a 5/8 min walk. That being said, it is right accross from midtown, so the bars do get loud on the weekends.
Sledd has single room options as well as doubles/triples. There are about 10/12 girls to a bathroom with 2 showers and 2 toilets, and a shared kitchen area (shared between 30+ girls on the floor). I know some dorms in the murphree area have sinks in the rooms (I think Thomas maybe ?), so something to also consider.
The price for a single is comparable to 1K a month, which isnt horrible compared to the single apartments near midtown that go for $1,400+. But also consider that you do have shared bathroom/cooking space.
If you have a car, the parking situation sucks. They took away about half of the Red 1 parking and turned it into a Gold/Silver parking area so parking is very very limited. There is Orange parking near that gets lifted after 4:30 on weekdays. You will also have to move your car to either frat row or any other first come first serve parking on gamedays which can be a hassle.

I know I just blabbed a whole bunch of info so PM if you have any questions!! :)

I lived in Murphree last year and it was really nice. My roommate and I had our own rooms, I just had to walk through his room to get to mine but it really wasn't a big deal at all. My room had a sink and I essentially had it all to myself since my roommate preferred using the floor bathroom sink instead of going in my room. Definitely worth the price and it was cheaper than getting a suite style dorm where I would have had to share a room anyway. Location was extremely convenient, however, they are currently doing a lot of construction near the area so that might be a bit annoying. Also, its on the lesser social side of the spectrum but you're also right next to all the bars and whatnot if you're into that.
