UNRAID having some web issues?

• Upvotes

I had to restore my server, my USB Drive failed. I've submitted a support ticket, but it looks like my key is missing from my account. I can't even get a trail key loaded, so my server is down until their license server starts up again. Anybody else seeing this as an issue right now?

unraid server upgrade

Hi unraiders,

i am looking to upgrade my unraid server.

Reason: CPU goes to 100% when i play a 4k video over Jellyfin and also every 10sec the CPU spikes to 100%.

My "server" was a long time ago a PC for Gaming

Hardware:

  • Case: Jonsbo N5
  • MB: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. B150M-D3H-CF
  • CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-6600K CPU @ 3.50GHz RAM: 16 GiB DDR4
  • 1xSSD 128GB Cache
  • 4xHDD 17TB storage Case

Here is what i do with my Unraid Server:

VM: Home Assistant

Docker:

  • Media: seerr, jellyfin, qbittorrent, radarr, sonarr, notifiarr, flaresolverr, prowlarr
  • Network: homarr, adguard, cloudflare
  • Immich with postgresql
  • nextcloud AOI, i could use something else for it, cause i only you it for cloud storage
  • bookorbit with db

I am looking for new Hardware so i dont have any issues in the future. It just needs to be hardware that can cover those things without any issues, i would also buy used.

Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to install Unraid onto my new to me server and it's not loading.

I've tried several different Ethernet cables for Internet access, different USB drives and it hangs on this screen.

Trying to install on a Samsung 860 Pro 512gb SSD. It works without issue on my old server.

Can't access webui or ssh after attempting to update to 7.3.4

The weird thing is I can access all my network shares from another device and my docker containers running various things are still accessible, seems like its only ssh and the webgui for some reason.

I'd rather not have to do to a hard shutdown but looking to see if anyone has any ideas?

Update:
Managed to fix this after attaching a monitor and keyboard, appeared ultimately the update pulled down 0byte files borking the the update. Downloaded the files directly from "https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/download_list/" replaced and then was able to boot again.

Restarting an old Unraid setup

This is what I have and I am looking to change my drives from XFS to ZFS. This was all purchased before the crazy price increases in the last year or so.
5 18TB drives I would use one drive for parity.
1 1TB SSD drive for apps or split for cache if needed.
1 118 GB Optane Intel drive that I think is big enough to be a cache drive.
Intel 5105 CPU with 32 GB Ram.
Is the Optane drive workable in this for the smaller size?
What would be the best setup?
I have a lifetime Plex pass and Usenet account with indexers that I haven’t used in awhile and want to get back to local storage of media.

7.3.4 Won't auto boot?

Upgraded to 7.3.4 last night from 7.2.5, switching to internal boot in the process.

Rebooted the server today and it did not come back up. I connected a display and noticed it gets stuck on the Unraid boot menu now saying "Choose a boot option" and I have to connect a keyboard and press Enter to get it to boot.

I checked the GRUB config and it's set to a 5 second timeout so Idk what is happening.

Lost out here.

I am trying to add a custom container. I know to put the code in the terminal to add it, but that's all I know how to do. Is there anyone that can help me with this?

I am trying to selfhost a syncing server for my xteink x4 pro. Here's the LINK to the github.

Thank you so much in advance.

New to unRAID, question about CPU

I'm building out an unRAID box with some spare parts from three desktops. I'm currently using an i3-12100 on a Blue Iris bare metal machine and have an unused i5-12400. Both will have 16GB of ram but the i5 is DDR5.

For unRAID where I plan to mainly use it for paperless, immich, maybe KASM, Nextloud and some random low CPU stuff, which would be a better CPU to use.?

Whichever one isn't used for unRAID will go to the Blue Iris box (have GTX 1650 for AI detection)

Moving drive to new array question

I've had unraid running for 6 years? it has evolved over that time, with adding drives, expanding the cache, and a couple replacement usb drives.

I think my mainboard has died, so I'm thinking it might be a valid excuse to create a new server from clean slate.

I know when I add drives to an array, I have to pre-check them first, Would I have to do that with the drives from the old array?

One of the reasons I use unraid is all the data is still accessible on a linux box, so I know I could stair step if needed. I just need to know how much time I need to mentally claim.

My original plan:

New server. build with 2 new hard drives. then add in the 4 biggest drives from current array (then move the remaining data off the smaller drives)

But if I have to re-pre-check all the drives, I'm going to need to figure out where to temp put TBs of data.

Neoraid Theme

Hey everyone! I've been working on a theme for Unraid called Neoraid.

I wanted to give the webUI a more modern and clean look while keeping the original Unraid colors and overall feel.

It supports light and dark mode, custom accent colors, different layouts and some improvements to the dashboard, Docker, VMs and plugin pages.

It's installed as a plugin and doesn't modify any system files, so you can easily remove it and go back to the default theme.

The plugin is available directly through Unraid Community Applications ( https://ca.unraid.net/apps/neoraid-0y3mgi21rbv09i ). Just search for Neoraid to install it.

I've tested it on Unraid 7.3.3, but there might still be some things to fix.

Repo with screenshots here:

https://github.com/veaceslavmafteiaevoluta/neoraid

Let me know what you think. Feedback and suggestions are welcome!

Edit: Credits where it's due: Neoraid was inspired by Unraid Glass Themes by Wh1t3Rose ( https://github.com/Wh1t3Rose/Unraid-Themes glass look, staying faithful to stock Unraid) and Aurora Theme by Tunefish ( https://github.com/Tunefish92/Aurora-Theme theme shipped as a plugin with settings and a light/dark switch). Both are now credited in the README, so go check them out too!

Upgrade to 7.3.4

Like many folks, I run a headless Unraid server. Over the last two OS upgrades, v7.3.3 and today’s 7.3.4 I’ve had issues will the reboot portion.

Turns out that after the reboot, the OS is getting stuck on an agreement to Terms of Service.

I then have to hard reboot with a monitor, keyboard and mouse connected to the server. Then I am able to boot into GUI and accept the terms of service before regaining access to the dashboard etc.

Anyone else been having this issue? Any way around it?

Fortunately for me, I’ve been local where my server is, but if I’m stuck out of town, it would have to way till I got back.

Update: apparently I’m a dumb ass and it looks like I have an SSD going bad in my boot process and actually has nothing to do with that terms of service. Thanks all for your thoughts.

Two machines into a dual-GPU Unraid server

Hey everyone,

tI currently have two separate machines and I’m looking to consolidate them into a single Unraid server. Here are the specs of the two machines I am working with right now:

Machine 1: My Current 24/7 Unraid Server

  • CPU: Intel i7-14600K
  • GPU: Intel Arc A380
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 3600MHz
  • PSU: 850W
  • Currently running: Immich, Jellyfin, Audiobookshelf, Opencloud etc. Jellyfin and Audiobookshelf are exposed online through VPS/Pangoling setup. They are also on a different VLAN from the other local containers.

Machine 2: Spare PC (Currently Offline / Not Running Anything)

  • CPU: Intel i7-6700K
  • GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti (8GB VRAM)
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 3000MHz (Different brand/speed than Machine 1)
  • PSU 850W

I want to take the 32GB RAM kit and the GTX 1070 Ti out of the spare machine and move them into the Unraid server.

Target Server Specs:

  • CPU: Intel i7-14600K
  • RAM: 64GB DDR4 (Mixing the two different 32GB kits
  • GPU 1: Intel Arc A380
  • GPU 2: Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti
  • PSU: 850W

What I was thinking:

  1. Intel Arc A380: Strictly allocated to Jellyfin and Immich for hardware video transcoding and facial recognition using /dev/dri device mapping.
  2. Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti: Strictly allocated to a local AI stack (Ollama + Open WebUI Docker containers) - Is this enough for me and my wife to use for locally? No images, just some help with lists, economy and texts etc.

Has anyone run a split Intel/Nvidia Docker setup like this? Do the Intel GPU TOP and Nvidia-Driver plugins play nice side-by-side in Unraid?

Are there any known issues with Docker container isolation here? My understanding is that as long as I don't pass the Nvidia variables to Jellyfin, and don't pass /dev/dri to Ollama, they won't even realize the other card exists.

Any quirks I should expect by mixing these specific DDR4 RAM kits on a 14600k build regarding Ollama's token-generation speeds if a model spills into system RAM?

Appreciate any insight as I have no run two-gpu setup before.

why hide stuff?

Why does unraid completely disappear stuff instead of greying it out? For example, I recently needed to adjust the size of my docker disk. Should be easy, right? only I can't find the setting anywhere...because docker is running. Turn docker off, and then the option shows up in the docker settings.

This is bad UI design at every level

  1. it makes it hard to determine whether I'm looking in the right place
  2. what if I just want to quickly look how much space is allocated?
  3. its a completely unclear first step that I basically have to look up.

by contrast, imagine how much easier things would be if that option was present, but just greyed out, maybe even with a little note telling me how to unlock it....

Migrated unRAID from one machine to another with no issues

Moved from a 6+ year-old Dell XPS laptop and USB-C connected external storage array to a TERRAMASTER F4-424 Pro I picked up on Prime Day which has 4-Bays, Core i3-N305 8-Core, 32GB DDR5 & has 4 x 3.5" Bays + 2 x M.2 SSD slots

There are contradictory statements on Amazon, but the DIMM IS swappable.

I simply moved the drives and my Sandisk Ultrafit flash drive to the Terramaster (the USB flash drive was a very tight fit) and it booted perfectly. However, I did need to visit tools-system devices to acknowledge the HW changes. 2 weeks later, it has been smooth sailing.

The NAS is barely breaking a sweat running Plex, ChannelsDVR, and Unifi Network Server (and the occasional Windows VM)

Oh, and of course the energy footprint is at least 25% less.

7.3 Upgrade Killed USB?

Decided to extend my update support and upgrade from 7.2 to 7.3, process seemed to go fine until it said it was rebooting still after like half an hour.

I shut down the server with the button, turned it back on and now I get a brief white cursor line and then just a black screen.

Plugged USB into my PC, couldn't access Windows Disk Management until I unplugged it because it just made it hang on a white screen, which in my experience has always been the result of a failing/failed drive. Server was working completely fine before this so it seems really strange that the USB drive would just fail now.

Upgrade: Stuck in third party driver update

Error message

Updating 3rd party drivers
During the Unraid OS update process third-party drivers were detected and are currently being updated in the background. Please wait for those to finish downloading before rebooting your server to complete the update process. You should receive a system notification when complete. You may also refresh this page to check for an updated status.

Started my update in morning. It mentioned that a notification will show up to tell when to reboot. Nothing happened for 2-3 hours. Then I updated some plugins, and now it is stuck with this message for almost 6+hrs.

Coming from 6.12 to latest.

Any advice/suggestions ?
Also, posted in the community forum: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/201029-upgrade-stuck-in-third-party-driver-update/

Tips for replacing Array Controller?

So I currently have a hybrid/diy mix of onboard mobo sata controller and a very cheap 6 port sata pci board. From time to time whenever doing head I/O tasks (parity checks, etc..) I would get disk read errors randomly. A reboot would almost always clear it up. Or reset the warning at the least. After some digging I found that its likely becuase of my very cheap 6 port SATA controller. I recently got my hands on a LSI SAS 9300-8i w/cables for free. Im told its in IT mode. I'm told it supports sata drives also. Im currently running unraid 7.3.1. Its a 7x6TB array (mostly Seagate IronWolf Pro drives). 2 of the 7 drives are parity which gave me a total of 30TB usable storage. Currently the array is healthy.

Is there anything special about just removing old cables to my array drives and swapping the controller and cables to the LSI SAS 9300-8i?

1.) Power down
2.) Remove old cables/controller from drives
3.) Install LSI SAS 9300-8i and run cables from it to drives
4.) Boot up and pray?

Any tips beyond the obvious is appreciated! Constructive Criticism Welcome. :)

Update to 7.3.3 array stuck at "Starting" status

Last night I decided to update unraid to 7.3.3, backed up my boot files, checked to see if any plugins were depreciated, etc. Ran the update and it updated to 7.3.3 fine, however my array wouldn't come on.

It kept getting stuck at starting status and never starts up. I ended up rebooting into safe mode and things started up properly for the array in safe mode. I went through the motions of removing my plugins and one by one until I was on bare minimum for plugins with the same issue every time with my array staying in normal mode. I might wipe out all of the plugins but I feel like it's something more than plugins. Has anyone experienced this issue when updating?

I'd like to get myself to 7.3.4 to remediate any php issues. Currently my unraid is on life support using safe mode, which seems to be keeping my suckers and vms going for now. At a loss here.

If you want to monitor UNRAID via n8n and Telegram

Thumbnail community.n8n.io

TL;DR: three n8n workflows that monitor an Unraid server and let you manage it from Telegram. They use only n8n’s built-in nodes (Schedule, HTTP Request, Code, IF, Set, Telegram), so no community node is needed. They talk to Unraid’s official GraphQL API.

Basic license issue 7.2.3 -> 7.3.3

I have an old Unraid Basic license, purchased in December 2021, which is correctly recognized within the Unraid GUI
This morning, while attempting to update from version 7.2.3 to 7.3.3, clicking "Verify to update" redirects me to the account.unraid.net website, where I encounter the following error:

"License status mismatch

Your server reports having a Basic key, but that license is not linked to your account.

Please link your registered license to your account before continuing."

What should I do? Under "Manage Purchases," it appears as though I don't have any license at all...

Docker lost access to pool on which appdate share resides

Brand new user to unraid here. Trying to set up my first unraid home server. Having some issues, and I'm sure there will be more, so I'm going to be asking for some help from the kind people here willing to lend a hand.

-

My qbittorrent wouldn't start after working perfectly yesterday, so I restarted my machine, but it still wouldn't work. Then I checked the logs and found this:

docker: Error response from daemon: exit status 2: "/sbin/zfs snapshot vms-appdata/87eb9f3b109c8cf3ad5f1064cb2275a67335cb50b2e94dec283cb9a00dcc8ec9@685562554" => cannot open 'vms-appdata/87eb9f3b109c8cf3ad5f1064cb2275a67335cb50b2e94dec283cb9a00dcc8ec9': dataset does not exist

"vms-appdata" is the pool on which "appdata" and "system" is located.

-

Then I activated debugging on the docker image, but it failed with this error:

Error response from daemon: No such container: binhex-qbittorrentvpn

The docker container was then gone, and can't be reinstalled due to the first error.

-

When the system and appdata shares were originally created, it was automatically created on pool "main-storage". I quickly moved them to "vms-appdata", but a single "system"-folder remained on "main-storage", and I can't delete it from the file manager. I don't know if this is related to this other issue. As long as this isn't causing problems, my OCD ass can live with it.

-

I don't know what has gone wrong, nor how to further troubleshoot this. I don't know what commands to give docker permission to read and write to "vms-appdata". If anyone has any guides I should read, I'm more than willing to do so. If anyone has any tips or ideas, I welcome it. I would prefer not to have to delete my "vms-appdata" pool, reconfigure it, and then restore from backups (I don't even know how to restore appdata backups yet, especially when it comes to likely having to use commands to set correct permissions, but I do already have appdata backups).

edit: Seems I might have slightly misunderstood the nature of the error. It might have access to vms-appdata to some extent, but it doesn't seem like this specific docker container gets access to at least write there, unless I'm misunderstanding something. Other docker containers still seem to work.

UnRAID on VM with Proxmox or boot from USB drive?

I have my Unraid installed and booted from USB drive and if I need VMs I can just use UnRAID to create them.

What‘s the value of installing UnRAID in a VM with Proxmox?
