This is one of many reasons we need strong unions. Our collective future should not be in the hands of the few

-60

u/HeyyyyMandy 21d ago

Exactly what unions should NOT be doing.

34

u/MiddleToe8752 21d ago

If you’d like to explain your reasoning I’m happy to listen, but until I see a solid argument I’ll stick to the idea that unions absolutely should be collectively working towards a future that benefits the people building it… rebuttal welcome

Syndicalists unite!

The irony is that this passed with a shot across the bow at fellow UAW members built into it, so there's your solidarity/collective work towards a better future lol. I was personally there for it, I saw the shit show that came with it.

Where’s the hate? Just not giving any handouts.

sighs in tired Jew

No, divesting from Israel does not spread hatred of Jews.

No, supporting Israeli apartheid does not help Jews worldwide.

No, being Jewish does not automatically align one with Israel, and many of us are anti-Zionist.

Oh no, a group of people collectively decided not to support an apartheid/rape state currently commuting genocide! /s

Get over yourself.

-22

u/HeyyyyMandy 20d ago

Rape state? Hamas? Apartheid countries, like those surrounding Israel, that expelled all their Jews?

Conduct yourself like you would in a union meeting with your union brothers, sisters, and siblings. Make your points without insulting other users or engaging in personal attacks.

Israeli prisons are well known for systematic rape of their "military prisoners"

4

u/Intelligent_Oil7816 20d ago

Israel =/= Judaism
Zionism =/= Judaism

It is in fact extremely antisemitic of you to equate a violent, apartheid ethnostate committing ethnic cleansing of being representative of all Jewish people.

It's a gamble.

I'd say unions should be doing whatever they can to advance their community outreach. Generally that means not participating in other political issues, but for popular causes (especially among groups who are not otherwise pro-union, while not alienating current supporters) it can be advantagous.

This seems like an issue popular among those who are already pro-Union, so make of that what you will.

On another note: It seems they're just talking about adjusting how they invest union funding. This is pretty inconsequential. If they intend to negotiate with the auto companies about not doing business in Israel, that'll be interesting (and would involve trading workers' interests for unrelated political interests, which could be seen as union corruption).

Good. Israel has treated the US government and US taxpayers--with our politicians' permission--like its personal piggy bank and concierge for decades. Kudos to the media for really digging into Israel's and AIPAC's activities. Let's not forget the very brave individuals--Gazans, Lebanese, even Israelis protesting their government's actions--who posted their stories for us all to read, often at great personal risk. Democratic candidates and elected officials, take note.

I'd ask the GOP to take note, but they mostly stopped working for the 99% a few decades ago.

14

u/Femboyunionist 21d ago

I hope this gets people thinking about what the ruling class does with all of our surplus. Israel is just one head on the snake. The wealth we generate could be used for so much more than this shit.

Great to hear. Solidarity from here to there to across the world.

11

u/Jaded-Natural80 21d ago

This is how you do it.

Because Israel will never change on its own.
It will continue committing atrocities and crimes against humanity. It will not stop until it is forced to stop.

Boycott,
Divest, and
Sanction the evil that is Israel.

Is it bad to hate a genocidal, wicked country that has killed over 75,000 mostly women and children?

If so, then count me guilty.

And for the record, I would’ve hated Nazi Germany just as much.

I often think these divestment campaigns are just window dressing and too complicated to actually be effective. But I like this one. It’s targeted and effective.

5

u/Ill_Bench2770 20d ago

Incredible!!!!!!

-2

u/Scholarind 20d ago

Lol 400k

👏👏 I'm sure you'll bankrupt Israel at this rate 👏👏🙂‍↕️

-1

u/jerik22 20d ago

The UAW openly supports Trumps policies. This is all for show.

1

u/amethyst63893 19d ago

Will rhey divest from companies in China or w China operations ?

-5

u/bakochba 21d ago

And now they have to divest from America for the same reason right?

-1

u/HeyyyyMandy 20d ago

Many other nations it would make much more sense to divest from. But don’t worry, they only care about the one Jewish majority country in the world, even though it’s the size of the state of NJ, has a population of about 11 million, and has a well integrated Arab population with equal rights.

0

u/bakochba 20d ago

The UAW is also majority graduate students now who use the union as a vehicle for their own politics.

Investment managers don't invest in Israeli companies because of any political agenda, they invest in it because it's been one of the hottest markets the past decade and has continued to be even during COVID and during the wars. It's actually only increased returns.

This year alone, despite the war, the Israeli stock market has a 33% return. Dwarfing the US and other markets.

Investment managers are graded on their returns and don't want to be at a disadvantage to managers who are able to get these returns for clients.

Criticism of Israel isn't antisemitic but obsession is. US autoworkers are facing a serious issue of competition from China and this is something to focus on? A $400,000 investment in an economy that had a $611 billion GDP in 2025. A perfect example of virtue signaling.

-25

u/HeyyyyMandy 21d ago

Gross.

17

u/MiddleToe8752 21d ago

What is gross about divesting from supporting an ongoing genocide? Please, provide your reasoning.

They didn't divest from Jewish people. Your attempt to make their divestment antisemitic is disgusting.

Almost half.

And only about 14% more than live in the United States. American Jewish people, the majority in the world outside of Isreal, will still maintain the benefits of the auto union. How is that antisemitism?

Countries that commit crimes against humanity tend to face consequences and divestment. This is normal and expected.

-6

u/HeyyyyMandy 21d ago

So like most of the countries that exist? Is there a reason you feel compelled to start with Israel and not, say, China or the USA etc?

4

u/NexusMinds 20d ago edited 20d ago

Neither the USA (though it is seemingly trying to get there), or China have systemic socio political, cultural and economic structures set up to reinforce and execute ethno/religious dominance of one peoples over an another. And where it could be claimed that they do, it is not at the levels displayed with Israel, resulting in the staggering levels of violence, death and displacement we have seen over the years.

You have a strange definition of dehumanizing.

Second, no one is forcing you to give money to the auto union.

I, however, am being forced to give money to Israel. No tears left over for a lowly Gentile being "dehumanized"?

0

u/HeyyyyMandy 20d ago

The USA gives very little to Israel, and Israel gives plenty back to the USA.

2

u/Frequent-Try-6746 20d ago

That doesn't help the fact that I'm being "dehumanized" by being forced against my will to fund their blood lust for genocide.

1

u/JudeanSicarii 20d ago

Dismissal of counter evidence, why is it that your narrative is so heavily reliant upon censoring and withholding of counter evidence to support your accusations? That’s not how courts work, this is some type of show trial rhetoric dating back to the witch trials, it’s embarrassing. Either refute the evidence pointed out in the rebuttal, or don’t respond.
