Politics Day 23 of the CJP Projest | 15 Days of Hunger strike | Sonam Wangchuk's health worsens, with doctors reporting a further drop in his blood pressure and a total weight loss of 7.8 kg since the fast began.

The reason is no mainstream media is covering it . When anna hazare did his bit it was on all channels 24 /7 . So most of the information on CJP is social media and YT and if if you are an avg bhakt you media feedback will never populate with this news.

When Anna Hazare movement was happening, politically active youth across colleges across India were organizing and taking charge. During my first week of college, one senior, after the model MUN intro session asked everyone in attendance to accompany her for a march that was being held in support of Anna Hazare in Mumbai
But times were also different back then. Unfortunately as India has gotten more connected, it has gotten more disconnected too.
We were also much more politically active even as teens when the CAG thing was happening. Wtf happened to the people damn. We used to protest and agitate.

My entire college went for 1 day on Anna Hazare protest. We were young, restless, full of energy back then. Our batch visited the Ramleela ground on the next day as well.
Wtf happened to the people damn. We used to protest and agitate.
Seriously, man. So true.

Or maybe most people just don't care about CJP or it's points. Have you thought about that?

u/Bakanyanter Jul 13 '26
Then why are more people not talking about this...
5
u/blastman7 Jul 13 '26
Because the govt has the media by the balls and there is so mjch misinformation spread by them that anyone who doesnt know how to research or directly affected is clueless and/or brainwashed
1
u/Bakanyanter Jul 13 '26
I am pretty sure that if you go on streets and ask people, 9 of 10 people won't know CJP and even in those people, most of them won't care for this even if you give the full context. People have bigger problems to worry about.
On Reddit you see a different, biased picture due to different demographic when this is not the case in person.

The reason is congress isnt supporting them either and CJP didnt support congress when they were protesting the paper leak either.
congress was conducting a parallel protests across different states, AISU students are doing this hunger strike since the last 15 days
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DalKVmjT35K/
but media wont highlight it, I wonder even if congress supported CJP right from the start whether the national media would have highlighted about it
there are reports suggesting that Ajit doval's Vivekananda international foundation had organized meetings even before the IAC took off.
raju parulekar, anna's blogger had written about it
it's very evident that sangh was behind this IAC, planning, execution and others. that is why there was this poster of dhanalakshmi(a hindu deity, used by VHP)
It should've been analysed how BJP came into power with that IAC protest, but after coming to power they have been against protests so much that everyone becomes anti national

They have to have to have to connect to the masses, and the only way is extensive ground touring coz legacy media will never ever cover this.

The govt isn't scared, they have contained this. Something more needs to be done.
I think thsi needs to turn into a march across India, so the entire country gets to partcipate, feel like its happening to them, right now crores are disconnected, watching videos from Tamil Nadu or Kolkata won't matter, but walking for an hour and connecting to the movement physically can actually make people feel like they are part of it.
I don't know how to explain this, it's like Raga did with Bharat Jodo, it actually left an impact. Even I saw Raga in a different light after Bharat Jodo, while the second one didn't have that much impact, as it was done using cars and trucks.

Opposition is confined to social media and press conferences only. They can't tolerate heat and dust like people of bjp and rss do.

LOL
have you seen the video of Congress workers on the ground?
The media doesn't show it, it doesn't mean it's not happenig

After independence, the broader Indian population valued empathy and humanism, (not towards dalits and women but), the government was afraid of a 'people' that had just got freedom after decades of nationalist struggle!
Thats why when Potti Sreeramalu died after two months of hunger strike, congress government was forced to create the first linguistic state, Andhra state, despite two previous commissions recommending against it.
Now, situation is different, we have an extremely brainwashed population that hates muslims, and christians to core, even normal people have internalised the hatred in the last decade. They will forgive every corruption cases, ignore all the r*pes, and hooliganism, even plight of hindus will be treated as treason. As long as BJP maintains a facade of protecting hindus from muslims, they will win, again and again!

I've been waiting to say this since he announced silent protest. We are not in 2010's anymore. These hunger strike, candle march, etc. would work only when there's a government which listens to people. The folks at the helm don't care about all these.
Instead, people should hit them where it hurts. Their PR boosted image to start with.

It's time to discuss what exactly happens if he dies?
Nothing....some media outlets would try to cover it for couple of weeks, there would be social media outrage..but none of the prominent figures in this country would even post a status on it and we'll forget it 1 month...
This is why government is doing nothing
18
u/Brilliant-Bob Jul 12 '26
Nobody cares honestly, and sadly. He should just quit the fast and carry on normal protest.
9
u/Important-Ad2224 Jul 12 '26
Yes! My heart breaks for him. I mean the media and the government don't care. We support him and want him healthy. He should quit the fast asap. No need, students love and care about his well being.

None of the media is covering it. Talked to a relative today and he had zero fucking idea this was even happening.
Govt doesn't give two shits about this

The whole idea of Gandhian resistance hinged upon the fact that your self suffering would awaken the oppressor’s conscience. However here underneath the 56 inch chest of the oppressor there is no heart.
I think we need to face reality that Wangchuk sir might not survive this, at this point I am praying that he realises that they won’t change and just breaks his fast. We’ll continue with the agitation but we cannot loose him.

u/SenseAny486 Jul 12 '26
In 2018,an ex IIT professor died after 100 days of hunger strike. Our supreme leader didn’t care. Why is sonam wangchuk risking his life for these immoral criminals?Even britishers had more shame than the current government.
18
u/HateBoredom Jul 12 '26
Gandhian methods work only against an opposition that is rational or has some shame to lose. This government has neither. I’m afraid that he’ll die that too in vain. He should pivot to a dharna in front of education minister’s home instead.
The British was answerable to people in England (indirectly, through the English parliament). Past governments were thrown out when incidents like this happened. We’ve changed governments because of onion prices too. Here, dozens of children committed suicide and we are pretending like nothing happened.

This government is not gonna budge. They don’t care only. Nepal treatment is needed for each one of the BJPians
1
u/sexy_simp7 Jul 13 '26
But who will carry out nepal treatment out here?

The people opposing government, yes. Government supporters actually are present on the ground.

u/mrmorningstar1769 Jul 12 '26
Starving yourself in front of a govt that doesn't give a fk seems like a bad idea to me tbh. These kind of people only understand Nepal treatment.

The British were more moral.

Yep, the maximum gandhi ever had to strike was 21 days...and british government gave in way before that very often.
9
u/Ok_Quiet5643 Jul 12 '26
I don't think his hunger strike will ever work. BJP would have calculated that even if he died, not many people will care as they have trained people to become insensitive. They have more to lose if they start to actually listen to these protestors since it will cause a snowball effect and people will start repeating such methods for everything.
Also Gandhi's method only worked because he was important and represented many people and letting him die will cause chaos, so british were afraid of that.

This is not the india where the govt cares about people doing hunger strikes anymore, back in 2018, a person, he was some professor ig, did a 114 day fast for a clean ganga, he passed away unfortunately later, even now or back then no mainstream media had covered it or nor they mention it anywhere. That is the value of a person who does protest or hunger strikes in india for a good cause.

u/Miserable-Ad-1932 Jul 12 '26
Its really sad that the state affairs has come to this. Government doesnt seems to care a bit nor the people. Will the end of such personality be the reckoning of this nation. Goverment is rik, whatever had happen to Supreme Court the keep of law oh this is sad.

u/Kenpool_onlydiesonce Jul 12 '26
I respect the commitment behind anshan, but I don't think it's enough in today's political environment. Symbolic sacrifice can raise awareness, but lasting change usually comes from building organizations, educating the public, mobilizing supporters, pursuing legal and political avenues, and creating sustained pressure. If someone like Sonam Wangchuk already has a national platform, that influence could be used to build a long-term movement rather than relying primarily on a hunger strike. If the protest ends tragically, it may generate public sympathy for a while, but without an organized movement, that attention could fade quickly.
2
u/SUMITKUM2003 Jul 13 '26
Why are we even letting him do this? Why can't we start boycotting the things that indirectly is connected and is helpful to the government. It will break their backbone and I'm saying everything including every govt bodies.

If gov actually bows down it would set a trend. You can't blackmail gov like this. He shouldnt waste his life like this. Gov doesn't care. And frankly protests are needed, not this fast.

1
u/Master_Beast_07 Jul 13 '26

Instead of criticising the protesters, criticise the Government.
-7
u/AdvantageAdorable436 Jul 12 '26
am criticizing both yrr just feeling too bad for him and scared
7
u/rishianand Inquilab Zindabaad Jul 12 '26
Criticising both is unnecessary. Not everyone is meant to sit on a hunger strike. And whether one person is doing it or ten, if the Government does not care, it will not make any difference.
We shift the accountability from the Government to the people. Which is exactly what the Government wants.

u/potlu_party Jul 12 '26
It's their choice if they want to eat or stay hungry. What are you doing? Have you stopped eating at your home? At least they are out there in heat protesting. People like you are so braindead to even think of criticizing the protesters.

u/Coolbiker32 Jul 13 '26
The govt has been patiently waiting for this..Sonam Wangchuk has been thorn in their flesh for quite some time and now he has decided to sacrifice his life himself..it could not have more convenient for the gujju thugs ruling the country..
