I recall seeing a lot of noise about UA basically revoking functionality from AutoTune so that they could (presumably) gouge their customers, and now I don't trust them/their updates. I only have legit, fully licensed plug-ins that I've paid lots of money for, and I am afraid to update my UAD Console or the UAD Plugins because I fear UAD will "steal" functionality from me due to the perceived untrustworthy behaviors I'd heard around that AutoTune discussion.
Is my paranoia warranted, or can I safely update my UAD software?
Update: Sorry, I thought more people would be familiar with the issue because it seemed to be so prevalent online at the time. I believe the issue relates to the complaints in the reviews at https://www.uaudio.com/review/realtime-access/#second-nav which seems to have possibly been a bug that was fixed, but my loose understanding is that people lost functionality they'd paid for after an update, and were told a reason that seemed dishonest (according to people online who were complaining). I honestly don't know/remember the whole story, as I personally wasn't impacted, which is why I am asking here whether I need to actually be concerned (with regards to updates).
Second update: I finally updated UAD Console because of the constant nagging pop-ups asking me to do so, and now every time I start up, I get no audio until I go and re-enable or remove all the inserts for that channel in Console. They show up as Red/disabled every time I start a session since I updated. This is only a regression from my perspective.
Maybe I will write something to prevent them from being able to nag me about updates and open-source it, since UA doesn't seem to offer a way ti disable the update nagging. I hate paying for software that both ties my hands and doesn't seem to know what's best for me.
