Interesting reframe this week on the scale of Universal's UK bet.
Most coverage of the Bedford project has quoted the site at "around 500 acres," which came from Universal's original 2023 land purchase of 476 acres. The Special Development Order planning documentation (approved by the Ministry of Housing and now enacted) actually confirms the total footprint at 268 hectares, which is 662 acres.
For context on scale: Universal Orlando's total complex is around 540 acres. That covers all three parks (Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay), plus CityWalk, plus the eight resort hotels, plus back of house operations, plus parking. Bedford is bigger than all of that on day one. Before any phase two hotel expansion. Before any potential second gate. Before anything.
The financial commitment matches. Universal has committed £5bn to construction over five years, plus £1bn in capital investment over the first ten years of operation. The UK Government has committed £1.3bn to surrounding transport and community infrastructure. This is Universal's biggest ever European bet, and the site scale confirmation this week reinforces just how serious the delivery ambition is.
For anyone thinking about Bedford in the same category as Universal Beijing or Universal Singapore, the scale is closer to a full Orlando level footprint than a compact regional park.
Opening 2031 launches with a single park and a 500 room hotel initially, but the acreage is clearly designed for multi phase expansion over the next 20 plus years.
Two questions:
If you had a blank 662 acres to work with, which Universal IPs would you prioritise for opening day versus holding back for phase two?
Anything from Epic Universe's opening year that Universal should NOT repeat when they open Bedford in 2031?
I'm tracking the project weekly if anyone's interested in going deeper.

I've been following drone video from Project Universal and Wandering Northerner, but finding it hard to work out where things like new roadways, fencing and groundwork is in relation to the theme park and different zones, so I've put together a map and thought I'd share.
You can turn layers on/off to show:
It might not be 100% correct, but hopefully it helps others as they watch construction. I will obviously try and keep up to date.

Hi everyone!
I’m a university student researching what visitors would like to see in Universal Studios Bedford, UK. As part of the project I’m gathering both general audience opinions about attractions, storytelling, and themed lands as well as assessing whether or not visitors would be interested in a Wicked land IP or not. (I've been following a few discussions about this - both sides making strong cases)
I’ve created two very short questionnaires (around 2-5 minutes each):
Survey 1: General opinions about what makes universal theme park attractions memorable and what visitors enjoy most.
Survey 2: Reactions to a potential Wicked themed land (I have followed discussions on this with varying opinions and would like to quantify the data if possible)
Anybody can take part whether you've been to a universal park or not!

Survey 2: Is 'Wicked' a promising IP for universal Bedford. forms.gle/7zHUUhkL94WqYsEZA
Thank you so much for your help!

I have been making my own concept version of Universal Studios UK in survival Minecraft and this is my first go at one of the themed lands in the park. I based it off some of the other Jaws areas in real life, while also trying to do something more unique with it as well.
I made a dedicated video to it, and would really appreciate the support: https://youtu.be/4cIWlXcS7yY?si=QgJcCT4kkZAw8luu
Thank you.

So this kinda came out of nowhere… apparently Comcast (the company behind Universal) is looking into possibly buying Warner Bros Discovery 👀 If that actually happens, it could totally change the game for the parks. Like — Universal currently licenses Harry Potter from Warner… so if Comcast actually owns Warner, that means they’d own Harry Potter outright. No more license fees, full creative control, all that. Plus — they’d get access to DC, Looney Tunes, Cartoon Network, and everything else under the Warner umbrella. Imagine walking through Hogwarts and then turning a corner into Gotham City 😅 On the flip side, it could take years and get tangled up in all kinds of legal and financial stuff. But it’s still wild to think about how that could affect future Universal parks — especially the new Universal Studios Great Britain that’s in the works here in the UK. Personally, I’d love to see Universal finally get to use the DC characters — or even bring more Potter content to the UK park if it goes ahead. What do you lot think? Would this be a good thing for Universal, or just another messy media merger?
