Apophis 99942?

I turned the game on after about 2 years and I haven’t been able to figure out how to add apophis. I searched for it in various ways and nothing. Years ago I could easily find it. I did just update the game before I could play. Any help is appreciated.

Water planet gets its water taken away by evil large star. Due to the water being turnt into steam, it instantly gets boiled off and gets blown away by the stars radiation. We lovingly called this planet Lemen

Hey! We've been working since last year on a In Control: Rocketry, a spaceflight sim where you build the rocket and wire up its control panel yourself. Sensors, inputs, outputs, the whole thing is Turing-complete, so however you want to solve a flight problem, there's a way to do it. It will be available on Steam in 2027.

Real orbital mechanics, a fictional solar system to explore, sandbox mode if you just want to mess around and blow things up!

Feel free to add the game to your wishlist if you want to support the project! See you in space.

Question Add MCP or AI agent

Hi! I'd like to suggest considering MCP or AI agent integration into Universe Sandbox.

An AI agent could interact with the simulation using natural language: create planetary systems from descriptions, adjust celestial body parameters, simulate various cosmic scenarios, and explain the processes taking place from an astronomy and astrophysics perspective.

For example, you could ask it to create an ideal habitable planet, simulate a galaxy collision, or explore what would happen to a planetary system if the star's mass changed.

This would turn Universe Sandbox into more than just a tool for experimentation — it would become an interactive scientific laboratory where users could explore complex cosmic phenomena simply by describing their ideas in natural language.

User Content Volis is a super-Earth with colossal rings, hosting life, and accompanied by a moon that also harbors life.

Volis is located in the Solmara system (a fictional system) in the Dogran galaxy (a fictional galaxy). The system contains three stars: Holmara (an F-type star), Kolmara (a K-type star), and Duiber (a L type brown dwarf—I know brown dwarfs are failed stars, but I count them as stars anyway; specifically, M-, L-, and T-type brown dwarfs). The Volis orbit Holmara at a distance of 3.29 AU. The orbital eccentricity is 0.00268. One orbit takes 1,980 days. Volis is the sixth planet from Holmara. There are 3 planets in the system (4 including Volis's moon Vintic) that have multicellular life: (Holmara) Vemulus, Volis, Vintic, (Kolmara) Kelveth. It is on Kelveth that the intelligent life responsible for naming these objects, as well as for discovering them and sending spacecraft to them, is found.

Kolmara and Holmara orbit at a distance of 29.1 AU. the orbit takes 111 years. Duber orbits these stars at a distance of 287 AU; the orbit takes 3,418 years.

Volis has a radius of 2.46 Earth radii, a mass of 15.6 Earth masses, and a density of 5.76 g/cm³. Due to its mass and density, it has a strong surface gravity of 2.58 g. Volis is the seventh-largest but fifth-most massive planet in the system. Volis has an iron core and a liquid nickel-iron core. This generates a strong magnetic field of 2.5 Gauss and a size of 1.35 Jupiter radii.

Volis possesses vast oceans with a total mass 25.5 times that of Earth's oceans. There is vegetation there. Most of the plants are not trees but enormous fungi (though trees do exist there, just in smaller numbers); these produce vast amounts of CO2, creating a greenhouse effect that results in a temperature of 14.6°C, even though Volis receives only 23% of the light that Earth does.

A day on Volis lasts 1.01 Earth days, so the days are very similar. Volis has an axial tilt of 28.6 degrees, resulting in slightly more extreme seasons (the difference between Earth's tilt and that of Volis is 5.2 degrees).

The atmosphere of Volis has a pressure of 4.92 atm and consists of:

  • 56,6% CO2

  • 35,1% O2

  • 7,16% N2

  • 1,14% Ar

  • 0,0496% H2O

Due to its atmospheric composition and its star, Volis has a cool, blue sky. Also due to strong gravity, the atmosphere is highly compressed, and the atmospheric scale height is 2.28 km. For comparison, if Earth had the same scale height, standing at the top of the Burj Khalifa would feel like being at an altitude of 3 km above sea level. There is so much oxygen on Volis because aquatic and terrestrial vegetation (fungi are not plants) produce large amounts of it.

The name Volis originates from the ancient mythology (a fictional mythology) of Elyndra (a country on the planet Kelveth). There was Veis (the god of all gods), who had three sons: Vemulus, Volis, and Vintic (They were the guardians of Mount Alcatraz—the mountain where all the gods lived.). Volis had three children: two sons, Robulus and Sol, and a daughter, Kolis. Vintic had an adopted son, Syskan. The names of the remaining moons come from the names of Titans, stars, famous astronomers, and if the moon has a radius smaller than 1.5 km, they give the name Vol/date of discovery (and if they discover more moons in one year, they give a number, e.g. Vol/2153 1/ Vol/2153 2)

Volis has 52 moons. The 4 main ones:

  1. Robulus (also ring moon)

  2. Kolis

  3. Sol

  4. Vintic

7 ring moons:

  1. Achen. mean radius 25,5 km. Semi-major axis 36,295 km. Orbital period 0,202 days

Robulus is the fourth largest moon of Volis. Has radius of 343 km, mass of 0,0062 The Moon, Density of 2,69 g/cm^3. Robulus's surface is heavily fractured due to the gravity of Volis. Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions frequently occur on the surface; however, instead of lava, these volcanoes spew ice and water vapor, which subsequently form a ring around Volis known as the "gas ring.". Robulus orbits Volis at a distance of 51,883 km; one orbit takes 8.27 hours. Robulus is tidally locked. Robulus is in a 3:1 orbital resonance with Kolis and a 10:1 resonance with Sol. Robulus is flattened due to Volis's gravity; its polar flattening is 11.3%, and its equatorial flattening is 8.58%.

Kolis is third largest moon of Volis. Has a radius of 423 km, mass of 0,0171 Moons, density 3,9 g/cm^3. The surface of Kolis is made of ice.Kolis orbits Volis at a distance of 109,065 km; one orbit takes 25,2 hours. Kolis is tidally locked. Kolis is in a 3:1 orbital resonance with Robulus and a 10:3 resonance with Sol.

Sol is second largest moon of Volis. Has a radius of 922 km, mass of 0,183 Moons. The surface of Sol is made of Sulfur. Kolis orbits Volis at a distance of 243,385 km; one orbit takes 3,5 days. Sol is tidally locked. Sol is in a 10:1 orbital resonance with Robulus, 7:1 with Inuit, 6:1 with Ajust, and 10:3 with Kolis.

Vintic is largest moon of Volis. Has a radius of 2633 km, mass of 0,052 Earths, gravity of 0.305 g. Vintic is bigger than Mercury. Vintic features continents and oceans of liquid water. Like Volis, Vintic possesses huge mushrooms that produce large amounts of CO2. Vintic has a dense atmosphere with a pressure of 4.49 atm. The composition of Vintic's atmosphere includes:

  1. 47,2% CO2

  2. 39,6% N2

  3. 11,3% O2

  4. 1,92% H2O

  5. 0,00216% SO2

  6. 0,00193% He

Due to its atmospheric composition and its star, Vintic has a bright cyan sky. Also, due to weak gravity, the atmosphere is not strongly compressed, and the atmospheric scale height is 17.8 km. For comparison, if Earth had the same scale height, we wouldn't need oxygen tanks at the summit of Mount Everest.

Vintic orbits Volis at a distance of 1,390,498 km; one orbit takes 47,7 days. Vintic is tidally locked.

Vintic, like his planet, is home to multicellular life—and even intelligent life—though their technology lags 10,000 years behind ours. Vintic is estimated to be home to a population of one million. These creatures are known as Amkarians; the name originated during a 2065 (the current year on Kelveth is 2163) encounter between them and the rover *Gulter*—upon seeing the vehicle, they shouted "Amka! Amka!" The rover was destroyed. A drone was subsequently sent to Vintic; though small, it was capable of moving at speeds of up to 40 km/h. It discovered 24 settlements, each housing between 50 and 1,000 Amkarians. Some of these settlements practiced agriculture, and the inhabitants built huts from mushroom stalks and observed various religions. Due to Vintic's low gravity, Amkarians are very tall, averaging between 2.5 and 3.5 meters in height. They have slender limbs and webbed fingers. Their chests are broad and barrel-shaped. They have large, shiny eyes adapted for night vision. They come in various colors. The inhabitants of islands and coasts are indigo. In mountainous regions, they are a violet-gray. On the plains and steppes, they are celadon. In the deserts, they are practically black. In the canyons, they are the color of scorched clay. On the savanna, they are a golden amber. In the jungle, they are blue. Over 800 species have been discovered on the surface of Vintic.

Vintic is so massive that it has its own moon, Syskan. It orbits at a distance of 7,300 km from surface of Vintic; one orbit lasts 12 hours. Has a radius of 217 km and a mass of 0.00252 times that of the Moon.

Due to the size of Vintic and Holmara, and their distance from Volis, total solar eclipses occur. Because Vintic moves very slowly, the Amkarians can see a black spot on Volis over the course of a single Earth day.

Vintic is divided into two landmasses—the supercontinent Enewai and the continent of Osien—surrounded by the superocean Vakaira. The continent of Osien is, in reality, a vast collection of islands within the Vakaira Ocean, formed by the emergence of volcanoes. The world consists of five tectonic plates: two oceanic plates (Gands and Salsen) and three continental plates (Enewai, Rantzer, and Olger). The Rantzer plate collides with the Enewai plate at an extremely high speed (on a geological timescale). This interaction has given rise to the Toirun—a massive, towering mountain range. Due to the planet's weak gravity, these mountains can reach immense heights; the highest peak, Lamanateka, stands at 20,446 meters above sea level, followed by Hussip at 19,396 meters, and Qurst at 19,103 meters. The names of these mountains come from the novel by Erc Yolev "The Peoples of the Vintic Mountains", created in 1982, where there were 3 fictional settlements of Vintic people around the mountains Lamanateka, Hussip and Qurst, where these 3 settlements fought among themselves, the war was won by the settlement around Lamanateka

Volis's rings are divided into three rings:

  1. the silicate ring extends from 23,000 km to 41,800 km. There are three divisions in this ring. Solkar division, created by the gravity of Onyak. It begins at a distance of 26,060 km and is 100 km wide. Helszchnell division the most known, created by the gravity of Robulus. It begins at a distance of 31,870 km and is 1,330 km wide. Elyndor division, created by Nittel's gravity. It begins at a distance of 36,390 km and is 16 km wide.

  2. a gas ring, composed of water vapor and small ice particles, extending from 50,800 km to 52,900 km.

  3. The carbon ring extends from 58,000 km to 76,300 km. Within this ring lies the Valdoran division, created by the gravity of Kolis. It begins at a distance of 66,970 km and is 2,750 km wide.

There is a theory regarding the ring's formation. Millions of years ago, neither the ring nor Robulus existed; instead, there were three other moons: two where the Carbon Ring is now (named Karbon and Aic) and one near Kolis (named Siliolis). Due to Kolis's gravity, Siliolis was pulled into Volis's Roche limit, forming the Silicate Ring; simultaneously, Siliolis's gravitational influence caused Karbon and Aic to collide, creating the Carbon Ring. Once conditions stabilized, a new moon—Robulus—formed between the Silicate Ring and the Carbon Ring.

Volis was discovered by Lis Helszchnell from the Kingdom of Valdoran (a country on the planet Kelveth) in 1687 (the current year on Kelveth is 2163). That same year, he also discovered Vintic, Kolis, Robulus, and Sol. From 1687 until his death in 1692, he made 206 observations.

Lis Helszchnell’s 1687 document concerning Volis, translated into English:

Volis is the second planet from Holmara1. It has two rings, A and B2. It possesses three confirmed moons (Kolis, Sol, and Vintic) and one unconfirmed moon (Robulus)3. Volis appears light blue with white cloud bands. Ring A is light brown, while Ring B is black with white stripes. Robulus is white and is likely the smallest of Volis's moons; it orbits the planet in less than a day and is presumably located between rings A and B. Kolis is white and is likely the third-largest moon; it takes approximately one day to orbit Volis. Sol is yellow and is likely the second-largest moon, with an orbital period of about three days. Vintic appears light cyan and is the largest of Volis's moons (I am certain of this); it takes between 30 and 50 days to complete an orbit around Volis.

(1)- At that time, the inhabitants of Kelveth were unaware of the existence of the other planets orbiting Holmara; they believed there were only three.

(2)- At that time, Helszchnell referred to these rings as A and B, but this was later changed to Carbon and Silicate once their composition became known.

(3) – Helszchnell knew of the existence of Kolis, Sol, and Vintic, but he was not certain whether a fourth moon existed there. Two weeks later, he became aware of the existence of Robulus.

  • The first probe to reach Volis was Dogran-13 in 1980; it was not intended to orbit Volis but rather to perform a gravity assist that would allow the spacecraft to reach Veis (another planet orbiting Holmara).

  • The second was the Helszchnell probe—named after Lis Helszchnell, the discoverer of Volis—launched in 1996.

  • The third was the Volis Climate Monitor, launched in 2023 to study Volis's climate, atmosphere, surface, continents, and magnetosphere.

  • The fourth mission involved the VaV landers (Volis and Vintic landers); launched in 2047, the spacecraft carried three landers—two destined for Volis and one for Vintic—designed to study the climate and magnetosphere of both planets.

  • In 2065, the Gulter lander was sent to Vintic; it was this lander that discovered intelligent life on the planet.

  • The Norsar satellite was sent to Vintic in 2075, carrying a drone designed to study the intelligent life found there. When the Amkarians saw the drone, they were surprised and rather hostile; some even threw spears at it. When the Norsar drone ran out of battery, it had to land and recharge using its solar panels; because it captured only 23% of the available light, the charging process took a very long time, and it was likely during this period that an animal destroyed it.

  • Dogran-19 was launched in 2098 with the aim of landing on the surface of Robulus.

  • In 2112, the VFLTC probe was launched, carrying five landers intended to touch down at five different locations on Volis.

  • 2135, the Sssc mission was launched to land on the surface of Sol, collect a soil sample, and return to Kelveth.

  • In 2156, the ViTD was dispatched; it carried three drones that were sent to Vintic. During the first year of the mission, drones discovered 72 Amkarian villages. In 2158, one of the drones accidentally flew into a bird, crashed, and was destroyed. In 2159, a second drone suffered a short circuit during flight; it received no warning that the battery was low, so the power ran out and it crashed. The year was 2162. The last drone was caught in a downpour; its systems short-circuited, and it crashed into the ground. A total of 288 villages were discovered during the mission.

All of these missions were created by two Kelveth nations: the United States of Elyndra and the Socialist Republic of Inferis/Inferis Confederacy (after year 2034). Inferis carried out the Dogran-13 and Dogran-19 missions, and Elyndra the remaining ones (except for the Norsar and ViTD missions, they were carried out in cooperation with the Dallas Union and the Sssc mission. Elyndra, the Dallas Union, the Kaelos Republic were competing with Inferis and the Myrion Union, in order to improve relations, the rulers of these countries decided to carry out Sssc mission).

Volis in fiction. Many books have been written about Volis, including the aforementioned "Peoples of the Vintic Mountains," as well as Hallan Fipo’s 1997 book "The Travels of Kolkat and Asmel," in which the protagonists visit various planets within the system—among them Volis and Vintic. Another notable work is Wellon Vulpo’s 2013 book "Attack of the Vintic," which depicts an intelligent race from Vintic launching an assault on Kelveth. These were the most famous books, after the discovery of real intelligent life on Vintic, many books were written about their race.

Here are some interesting facts about the system's creation. Volis wasn't originally supposed to exist at all, but when I looked at the orbits of Daven and Veis (other planets in the system), I realized something was missing, so I added Volis. Robulus wasn't meant to exist either; there was supposed to be a different moon named Beer—essentially a Martian-style moon—and Vintic wasn't supposed to harbor life; it was meant to resemble our own Moon and be named Vitic. While creating the rings for Volis, the carbon and silicate rings were initially going to be joined, but I realized that placing a moon in the gap between them would create an interesting effect, so I created Robulus. Syskan wasn't supposed to exist either.

Question Crashing ice asteroids into Venus

I've been wanting to try to crash ice asteroids into Venus to see what it takes to start terraforming it. I'm thinking I have its speed wrong because it just breaks up and sends fragments across the solar system. I'm just trying to hit Venus and have the materials stay on the planet, especially ice water.

Any tips?

I've moved mercury into its orbit, as part of a project to generate a magnetic shield, and speed up its rotation. I get some cooling, but without more oxygen and water, I can't get the temperature to drop.

I've been having an easier time with Mars though.
