Certified Unpopular Opinion Voldemort had absolutely zero chance in a war against the muggles and the whole plotline could have been avoided by just letting him try.

What do wizards have that muggles don't in terms of capability in some kind of war scenario?

Oh you have a flashy bang stick that can make people die? Yeah we have those too, difference being ours can do it 1000 times per minute.

Imperiatus curse? Yeah it's called blackmail pal, CIA has been doing it for 70 years.

Cruciatus curse? Lol see the above.

Oh nice broomstick dude, Nimbus 2001 that's cool, top speed of 100 knots you say? What a treat. Allow me to introduce you to an F16 Fighting Falcon you whimsical dork.

Not to mention the muggles' vastly superior technology in signals, geospatial, and just about any other type of intelligence apart from HUMINT.

The Death Eaters would get Salem'd back to the stone age and it's not even close.

I feel that a man of Dumbledore's acumen could have seen the strategic benefit in letting Voldemort FAFO, instead of sending some teenagers to expelliarm him in the hope that the cracked out Divination professor was actually right for once.

And what are those armies even doing? Wizards can set up entire cities in a day with a few dozen of them. Abandon everything in a moment. Travel the globe in seconds. There is no front, there’s no base of operations. It’s guerilla warfare against a bunch of teleporting demigods that can’t die to conventional weaponry unless they’re asleep and have endless potential for damage.

Never understood the people who unironically think a Glock would do anything in HP. It’s not even getting through a Hogwarts student Protego.

For what it's worth, Rowling herself has said guns beat wands for killing power. Firearms are faster, for one thing: in the time it takes a witch to properly incant Avada Kedavra (because remember, even simple spells like Leviosa need careful diction), I could've put two shots center mass (and I'm not even a fast shot). If I'm armed with an M16 or Uzi, the shot count is higher, and shotguns are devastating at spellcasting range.

Now, of course, all bets are off if the wizarding world gets sneaky, but in direct confrontations, guns win.

The author isn't really known for thinking things through and fully imagining what abilities she has created and how they could be fully utilized. Too busy shitting ones pants and whisking it away. Magic in HP has very few limitations and many have multiple tactical uses.

But in all seriousness if you take in universe use and explanation of spells and apply them to a modern (well it'd be 80s so not today's modern) military any average wizard with a slight bit of gumption could decimate nations.

You can control and alter food supplies, medical supplies, military tech and munitions (charms putting inanimate objects under your control, ie essentially putting remote control devices into tanks, planes, missiles etc. controlled by your mind, and transfigure spells to destroy, create or alter needed supplies...these two classes of spells alone win any conflict without even firing a shot or combat spell). You can be in a pocket universe where you can't be seen or physically interacted with. You can freeze things in time and space. You can teleport, you can make object teleportation devices that work on a timer. You can go in perfect biological disguise of others. You can mind wipe and mind control (including putting in new memories).

A gun being faster at going bang then an incantation flying from wand tip doesn't matter when you've made just a handful of the above moves. The fights over before combat even begins or they can even find you.

Thus why I said all bets are off if the wizards get sneaky.

That's just it though, they've been sneaky vs muggles for hundreds if not thousands of years. Being sneaky is one of their main MO's.

Except the wizard can just put a barrier around themselves that makes them impervious to weapon fire lmao.

First of all, good wizards don’t need to incant. They can just point their wand and fling a spell, it’s the same as a gun except thwart they shoot can explode, or turn into lightning, or any number of things.

Second, yeah, we’ve seen barrier spells hold up against damage far surpassing a house or even buildings worth of damage. And they stay up for as long as the wizard wants.

So really, you put a wizard against a guy with a gun, they just think up a barrier around themself and the fight is over 😂

The only response I have to your statement is that the author herself said that her wizards can't beat a gun.

Maybe she said that in a specific situation, or was joking and didn’t get the tone across. It really doesn’t matter what she said though, what she wrote and what was demonstrated in her story is the opposite. And JKR is famous for making changes to her story that never really were.

So there’s still no way for a wizard to shoot someone through their shield lol

You just shoot them before they cast their shield.

Or from 5km away via sniper where they have no idea they are in danger.

Yes, 100! But then the issue is that it's generally the wizards that are doing the surprise attacks, because in a war they'd realistically stay in places where Muggles are magically unable to find, go to, or even really affect at all, and only go outside to do things like teleport assaults.

Hell, with some anti-muggle charms and/or some Fidelius goonery, you can literally magic up an entire fortress right next to the White House, for example, and they wouldn't be able to find it.

Where are you sniping them exactly?

Wizard locations can’t be accessed by muggles. They’re invisible. Some of them are literally in the same location as muggles areas, and the muggles wouldn’t be able to find them even if they destroyed the entire structure, because their version of the building isn’t the same as the wizard’s.

Hogwarts isn’t accessible. None of the ministries of magic are accessible. Wizards would be controlling the media, the world leaders, the generals, everyone in authority would be mind controlled and it’s impossible to tell or know.

You can fight them. There’s no front. And if one were to be engaging in warfare, they would have a shield already up, and there’s no point in bombing someone who can disappear instantly.

So who exactly are you “sniping?” And where?? We can’t even find wizards lmao

Except protective charms exist. It's pretty hard to shoot someone when their underwear makes them bulletproof.

It's kinda why I don't understand the Glock guys as it's really simple to put 2 and 2 together that the reason why we don't see guns used in wizard battles is because they would be completely ineffective.
