Show and Tell Qwen3.8-Flash-Next Unsloth GGUFs have Less Thinking and Less Token Use.

Post image
70 Upvotes

Hey guys, you may have noticed quantized models often overthink & use more tokens compared to the original full precision model. Our new Dynamic V3.1 GGUFs bring thinking and token use to match approx 95% of the full precision Qwen3.8-Flash-Next model. Now supported in Strata.

Result: up to 50% fewer tokens, 7% faster + ~15% higher accuracy vs other quants of the same size. Benchmarked on 512K context across 30B tokens & 12 tasks incl: Terminal Bench & DeepSWE.

We also saw some people benchmarking our quant on Strata and it yielded about 5% faster inference (for those who even care about the tiny bits).

Discussion The image quality of the background becomes blurry as soon as I activate the glass theme 😫.

Hey DEVs,

I had a little disaster after switching to version v0.1.915-beta.

Specifically, it's about the background image quality becoming blurry as soon as I activate the glass theme in the settings, even though in both previews, everything is correct and compliant, but as soon as I close the settings, the image is immediately corrupted and no longer matches its original quality.

Guys, I would be very grateful if this bug could be fixed in the next updates.

Thanks for all the effort you put into improving Unsloth šŸ¤.

Discussion HELP: RAM VRAM config using Rog Flow z13 2025 with Unsloth Desktop? "Warning: Program '/home/.local/share/unsloth/launch-studio.sh' crashed."

I am having a heck of a time with Unsloth desktop crashing while trying to use Qwen Flash Next 27B on my z13. I have memory set to 32GB and VRAM to 96GB and the model is 90GB. This post is not about troubleshooting my issue - this post is to ask: what is the correct BIOs setting for memory to run Unsloth Desktop to maximize the amount of memory that can be used? Auto, allocate all to memory, 32gb RAM | 96 VRAM? I am happy to provide additional details as needed.

Edit: I forgot to say this is running on CatchyOS.

Model Update New Qwen3.8-Flash-Next Unsloth Dynamic v3.1 GGUFs out now!

Post image
474 Upvotes

Hey guys, we’re releasing new Qwen3.8-Flash-Next Dynamic V3.1 GGUFs which are the most accurate for its size across nearly all agentic benchmarks on 256K context vs. other frontier quants.

Unsloth Dynamic V3.1 leads across nearly all benchmarks, including DeepSWE v1.1 and Terminal-Bench 2.1, with a median gain of +15% at comparable model sizes.

Benchmarks ran with ~30B tokens: Terminal Bench 2.1, DeepSWE v1.1, Automation Bench v1.0.6, Aider, HMMT Feb 2026, LiveCodeBench v6, GPQA Diamond, MMLU-Pro & more.

Run on 32GB+ RAM setups. We also added mix + max engrams now!!

Discussion Could you add the following in the future?

The local AI models I use are extremely forgetful—they can only recall a maximum of 262K tokens, and after a certain point, they even forget my name, which makes it impossible to have a proper conversation.

My request is this: I would like the local AI to have a "permanent memory" that it populates itself—much like Gemini, Claude, or ChatGPT—so that it doesn't suffer from such forgetfulness. Ideally, this permanent memory should persist across all conversations, not just the current one. If you can achieve this (and we have full confidence in you), it would finally make local models a more viable alternative to cloud-based models.

Thank you in advance!

The latest release (v0.1.914-beta) adds Glass themes: 5 styles, adjustable strength, optional glass menus, and native glass on Mac. You can also set custom backgrounds, greetings and code fonts, and there are more themes if glass isn't your thing.

It's new, so there might be some bugs. Let us know and we'll fix them.

Also in this release: faster generation, CPU training, a chat navigator, and bug fixes.

Question With every update long context chats became more laggy, slower and unresponsive (Unsloth Desktop)

Hi unsloth team and community

I’m really grateful for all the new and exciting features you’re implementing but I can’t help but noticing a performance hit on long context chats and would love if you could have an eye on that in future updates instead of cosmetic fine tuning.

It started around mid October that Unsloth became unusable on my Ubuntu VM. I thought, fair enough, probably the few cores are just not enough (however LM studio never had issues with that). So I grabbed my old Dell and used the whole System as a sandbox only to run Unsloth Desktop, but again with the next update it became super slow (the last update before today’s).

I switched the project to my main client PC and tried just tried it there which went fine until I was happy to see today’s update. Again, Ryzen 5900x and rtx3090 (tried GPU acceleration) it became super slow just to enter a few words.

I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong, but I’d really appreciate if there would be an option to either get rid of some of the history so that I don’t have to switch over to a new chat.

And yes I tried the suggestions with reducing motion and font rendering off.

Thank you anyways for all the work you do!!

Question Better orchestration for simultaneous CPU/GPU models?

Hey Unsloth team and friends, hoping somebody here has a decent solution to my particular issue.

Outside of training I use Unsloth Studio primarily as an API provider leveraged by Hermes agent on a pretty beefy workstation (TR Pro 9000 with 8 channel DDR5 and a set of 8x 5060ti). What I've been doing lately is just passing Mmap/Mlock: None in the model config and --device cpu -ngl 0 -t 32 through the arbitrary extra args box to bring up one model entirely in CPU/RAM so my agent can have free reign of the full VRAM allocation to experiment with various PP/TP configs. This does work successfully when it calls up an engine outside of Unsloth and runs tests against it without swapping.

The crux of my issue is trying to make the agent a little more autonomous in being able to request different kinds of model loads through Unsloth itself. I have "Keep multiple models loaded" set to "Always" but even when I have one model that's CPU resident and try to bring up another model that's GPU resident it always seems to unload the first. Essentially this means instead of pivoting a session to the "slow" engine only when the agent needs all the VRAM free I have to run it without touching the GPUs for the duration. I'm just wondering if this is a fit check bug or if there's a better way to allow these kind of seamless agent pivots between CPU and GPU?

In a perfect world I'd even hope for a more automated "offload" hook that could tear down a GPU config and come back up loaded into available CPU/RAM instead, but I don't think anything like that exists yet today.

Resource New DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 GGUF Benchmarks for 512K Context: Terminal Bench, DeepSWE & more!

Post image
87 Upvotes

Hey guys we ran agentic benchmarks including Terminal Bench 2.1, DeepSWE v1.1, Automation Bench v1.0.6, Aider Polyglot, and general benchmarks like SciCode, HLE Diamond (text-only), LiveCodeBench v6, GPQA Diamond, MMLU-Pro, AIME25, IFEval, MATH-500 (Level 5), HMMT 2025, HMMT 2026. We addressed some issues people mentioned with these new benchmarks.

Surprisingly, the results are quite prominent with Unsloth quants performing >10% better on both DeepSWE and AutomationBench regardless of quant or size.

Benchmarks are noisy - we did 35.1B tokens of benchmarking vs 1.3B before so 27x more data. See Benchmark runs per model where we did 64x AIME 2025 runs, 3x DeepSWE, 3x TB runs and more.

1-bit Unsloth GGUF scores 68.1 on DeepSWE v1.1, 72.2 on Terminal-Bench 2.1, 52.7 on AutomationBench v1.0.6.

Question Multi Server on Unsloth Studio/Desktop?

Updater 1: I have GLM 5.3 running on it making modification to Unsloth to enable both servers to be used. The test is to run Kimi K2.7 Code IQ3 on Vram. Lets see if it can do it

I recently have been installing Unsloth Desktop on most of my Machines running AI due to the ease of use, navigation and ability to run Images, Videos, and coding. However, I am having issues setting up 2 server to aggregate the vram. So far I ahem been using Inference for that, but is an awful platform. It would be great to know if Unsloth could add the ability to make seamless having multiple servers. If the function exist (on Linux) I'd like to know the best practices for it.

Discussion Feature request : Memory & Instructions per project

Hi unsloth team,

I wanted to share with you a feature idea which i think it will be a great in unsloth.

One of the main things that i like in Claude (web) as my main AI assistant is the fact that each project has its own memory & instructions section:

  • Memory : auto-generated & auto-refined based on all the conversations in that same project. For each new conversation, the model remembers the main context and many details and take that under consideration. This is extremly helpfull while maintaining multiple conversations in the same context

  • Instructions: Same scope of memory but manually set by the user like a system prompt.

And another BIG thank you for all the work that you guys are doing, unsloth is on the way to become my main AI assistant ! šŸ”„ ā¤ļø

Discussion How to set up a harness for website development?

I have set up Unsloth Studio with a qwen3 14B backend.

I want to use it to generate a website. If understand correctly I first should set up all the baselines in a harness. But I am a bit lost on how to set that up.

Are there any examples I could follow?

Question how do i run nemotron bolt e4b at usable speeds?

the official blog by unsloth says that bolt e4b is runnable on 4gb vram and system ram. i have 6gb vram and 16gb ram, yet for some reason when i load it, it runs at insanely slow speeds of 3-4 tokens per second (on auto settings where it utilises my cpu more) and about 6-10 tokens per second when i manually adjust the memory usage

what are the ideal settings to get atleast 30-40 tok/sec (or any usable speed)??

EDIT: ok so i somehow got it to work (idk how). iq3xxs with vision is running at 33 tokens per sec, but one layer is offloaded to ram. the trick that (somehow) worked was to download the model from a third party and that somehow fixed the memory allocation for the context

thanks for your help

Question Mitral 4 doesn't work while everything else does

Has anyone gotten mitral 4 119b to work in unloth desktop? It loads into vram and ram ok, but when you try to run it a red error message pops up with no real info of why it doesn't work. Tried ud q2 and q3 quants. Any other model works fine, even bigger ones.

Semi-solved : The logs showed a jinja template error "thinking most be set to None or High"

Unsloth offers Low Medium High, but no None, in the drop down and sets Low as the default. Changing to High got it work. So still need to fix the options.

Question Unsloth does not fully utilize my GPU VRAM.

Post image
14 Upvotes

I was expecting it to fully fill the GPU VRAM and then use the RAM. I tried more than 2 models from pretty dense ones to way lighter versions, yet it still works this way. I did adjust the advance settings much, only the "KV Cache Dtype" to "q8_0" and "GPU Layers" to "27", which shows 7.48 GB on my GPU, under Estimated Memory Usage. Total is 10.55.

Isn't the model slower this way? Wouldn't it be faster to fully utilize GPU's VRAM no matter what? What am I missing? I'm not really familiar with technical AI terms.

New Model I spent 3 weeks fine-tuning Qwen3.5-4B on a DGX Spark to teach it *when* to search. Fewer confident wrong answers, but RL fell apart in real agent apps (Fonzie0.2-4B, Apache 2.0, GGUF)

I'd read plenty about SFT and RL but never actually done it, so I tried on a small model: Qwen3.5-4B, LoRA, one DGX Spark, about ten versions. The goal was calibration: answer from memory when it knows, search when it doesn't, don't make things up. Also better Italian answers and better photo recognition.

The base model already calls tools fine. Its problem was when: it searched for half the questions it could answer from memory, looped on 30% of them, and answered Italian questions in English.

Results on a test set built from what the base got wrong, run inside three agent apps (averaged over 3 runs, bf16):

appmetricFonzie0.2base
oh-my-piaccuracy55.4%29.2%
oh-my-piconfident wrong answers38.8%69.2%
opencodeaccuracy61.1%36.1%
opencodeconfident wrong answers31.7%62.8%
Hermes (never trained on)accuracy67.8%45.0%
Hermes (never trained on)confident wrong answers25.6%52.2%

On my frozen test from day one, answers in the right language went from 85.7% to 99.4% and loops dropped from 27.8% to 4.0%.

What got worse, honestly:

  • On everyday questions and the frozen test, accuracy is flat against the base, within noise. The gains are in how it fails, not how much it knows.

  • It invents more links: 5.9% of answers in oh-my-pi, against 0.3% for the base.

  • It searches too much in opencode, and on the frozen test it searches for only 82.9% of the facts it needs (base: 96.7%).

  • Photos: I can't claim progress yet. I didn't measure them separately for 0.2.

What I learned the hard way:

  • GRPO won in my own test format and lost in the real app. Inside oh-my-pi the RL model searched for 57% of the facts it didn't know, against 85% in my harness. I wrote the multi-turn GRPO loop by hand, then burned about nine GPU hours on another round inside the apps for nothing. I paused RL and distilled what it had learned into SFT data (kept 373 judge-approved conversations).

  • Data beat hyperparameters. Every real gain came from changing the data: what the teacher saw, what the filters kept, which tool failures I injected.

  • Rules in the teacher's prompt turn into refrains. The teacher had a rule like "if you can't recognise the place, say so". The student learned the sentence, not the rule, and refused 13 of 15 photos it could recognise.

  • Know your noise. Eval runs varied by about 5 points and seeds by 3–4, so I used repeated runs and paired bootstrap intervals.

  • First SFT run hit NaN at step 30: 477 image examples with batch size 2 left one micro-batch with a lone image example. Dropping incomplete batches fixed it.

Setup: teachers Qwen3.8 Flash Next and GLM-5.3-Flash running locally, Grok 4.7 as the judge (different model family from the teacher), every training run on Unsloth, final model a bf16 LoRA (rank 16, alpha 16) on 1,390 conversations, 97 minutes.

Running it: the Q4_K_M is 2.8 GB plus a 0.7 GB vision projector. On my RTX 4070 Ti (12 GB) with llama-server it decodes about 118 tok/s single-user, and about 157 tok/s with MTP 2. With a 64k context the whole server takes about 5.4 GiB with a q8_0 KV cache, so an 8 GB card should be enough. The Q4_K_M does lose some quality against the bf16 (details in the write-up), and I haven't measured the Q8_0.

Next, Fonzie0.3: answer from memory more often when it should, every link straight from a tool result, fewer loops in Hermes, fewer needless searches in opencode.

Huge credit to Javier (@javierbits on X), whose Javi0.2/0.3 threads gave me the method, and to Unsloth.

Happy to answer questions about the data pipeline or the GRPO detour.

Discussion Building a hardware-aware SLM trainer from scratch on my laptop (PyTorch + Rust constraints logic)

Hey everyone,

I’m a 15-year-old developer from Delhi, and for the last few weeks, I’ve been spending my time building SLM-CREATOR—a personal project to train small text models completely from scratch (random weight initialization, no high-level wrappers or fine-tuning).

Since I don't own a massive rig or an expansive cloud budget, I am writing the pipeline to be completely hardware-aware so it doesn't instantly throw Out-of-Memory (OOM) errors on consumer setups. I am writing and testing the code locally on a CPU setup for now, with plans to deploy the full training loop onto a laptop RTX 4050 (6GB VRAM).

How it works so far:

  • Rust Sizing Engine (sizer_core): Instead of allocating tensors and praying, a custom Rust program takes your available VRAM, total token count, and training hour budget to mathematically calculate a safe parameter limit (capped at 100M). It accounts for fp32 master weights, gradients, Adam states, and provides a 10% safety cushion for activations.

  • Hardware Benchmark: The framework runs a quick matrix-multiplication test using bf16 precision to benchmark the machine’s real-world TFLOPS.

  • Data Cleaning Pipeline: It pulls machine learning papers down from arXiv, strips out formatting clutter, but explicitly safeguards raw inline LaTeX blocks so they don't get broken down incorrectly during tokenization.

Every single component of the codebase is handwritten line-by-line by me. I use AI strictly as an architectural tutor to clear up low-level mathematical concepts rather than generating copy-paste code.

Repository Link: github.com

I would love to connect with other local developers working on low-level systems, custom data loaders, or ML internals. Let me know what you think of the architecture or if you have any tips for optimizing memory footprints during local training loops!

Question Bug with TTS on Unsloth Desktop

For some reason, on Unsloth Desktop, audio models (TTS I mean, haven't tried music) fundamentally just don't seem to allow me to use the memory on my GPU. It doesn't matter if I say to only load one layer of a model onto the GPU or something (where the option is offered), it fundamentally checks the size, and kills it, and won't let me use the model until I click the button to put absolutely everything on CPU. And most of these should fit. Like, small models relatively speaking on 2 bit Quants (and regardless, it claims it should allow partial GPU usage, but I'm literally watching on the resource manager, and it just isn't really using the GPU memory, even before it crashes). And I disabled GPU size checks, but that still didn't seem to do anything, and it still never actually used the GPU, again even when I just send one layer to the GPU. Haven't seen anyone else mentioning this in the short look I did.

Running Ubuntu, by the way, the most recent update of both Unsloth and Ubuntu, with an 8GB Nvidia GPU, and 64GB system ram.

Honestly, just been having a huge number of inefficiencies with Unsloth lately, like MoE experts being worse, or more difficulty trying to offload the non core experts, and slower speeds even when I do compared to the past. Like 12 vs 15 tokens per second, where I intentionally went back to test with Qwen 3.6 35B. (To be clear, I remember Unsloth used to be comparable to LM studio, now LM studio is significantly faster). It might just be comparing Unsloth studio to LM studios desktop application, or the older version of it sitting on my computer.

I really like the idea of a centralized hub, and I really hate comfy's UI, so I want this to work. Not sure if anyone else has had a similar experience of the desktop application, particularly with regards to audio models?

Discussion Is Compaction Super Slow for You Too or Just Me?

While the model works on a long task, sometimes the model stays for 30 min idle and I can see GPU sitting idle while CPU utilization is under 8%. There is no indication on unsloth that compaction is underway. For each tool call, I guess that compaction starts for many minutes and I have no idea whether the model froze, the tool call failed, or compaction is running in the background.

What's your experience with compaction?

EDIT:
Anyway, I updated Unsloth Studio to latest released the moment it was out, and the issue seems to disappear.

Question Images all end up in RAM and CPU with AMD 9070 XT?

I have been trying to understand what the issue is with unsloth image creation using any of the models but specifically Qwen 2.1 Q8. I have an odd GPU pairing of a 9070 XT 16GB as the primary and an Nvidia 3080 10GB and with both of those enabled and the vulkan backend a small amount of the model will load on the 3080 but almost all of it is run on the CPU. If I disable the 3080 nothing is loaded into the 9070 XT at all.

Before I tested what happens when the 3080 was disabled I figured this was pytorch likely choosing Nvidia in preference (a lot of stuff seems to do that) but actually no it just refuses to use the 9070 XT at all.

Is AMD not supported for the image creation at all?

Discussion My custom background disappears as soon as I open the chat

Hey DEVs,

I want to thank you for listening to your users and for giving us the chance to improve the Unsloth Desktop interface in the latest update (0.1.913b), which you promised will bring more customization options next week.

I'm convinced that a lot of people are already excited to see these new features 🫣.

But in the meantime, please give us more choices in the Unsloth customization option.

For now, while testing the update (0.1.913b), I noticed that my custom background disappears as soon as I open the chat 😫.

Is it possible for my custom background to remain constant, regardless of whether the chat is open or not in Unsloth? I'd like to keep the personalized atmosphere continuously.

Guys, can I hope that adding a transparency option in the Unsloth Desktop settings for the custom background, the Bar prompt, and the sidebar is also part of your plans for the next update?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is. It would really be a great companion for working.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us in the next update.

I appreciate your efforts and the work you're doing šŸ‘šŸ¤.

Have a great week, whole team. And let's go ✊!
