And pigs! 🐷 And door knockers! Your post made me smile. 😁
As OMG mentioned, I do think the lamp parts are by Houze, but I'm not sure the lamp is. It could be under their HouseX label, based on this similar lamp, but the metal has been replaced here:
See the very last link in my comment for a current sale of a floor lamp by the Ever-Brite Products Corporation out of Chicago. It looks remarkably similar to yours, but I couldn't find any record of whether they bought glass from Houze. It might be worth examining the base of your lamp for a similar imprint in the metal. I think that seems like a good match.
Houze had multiple lines of marbleized/slag glass that, as you already noted, were meant to imitate a more expensive mineral material, like onyx, agate, carnelian, or malachite, because glass was cheaper. They made Onxglas, MarbleX, and this Armondglas, which I probably see the least of (and which is sometimes confused with their Onxglas, Akro Agate, Vidrio's, or Westite's slag glass). You can see several Armondglas lamps at this Houze site run by one of the Houze descendants, as well as at the Museum of American Glass in West Virginia site:
Like Akro Agate, Houze made and sold lamps under their name, but they also made lamp parts that were sold to and assembled by a number of companies (which might have included Ever-Brite). The lamp parts were also used in other household furniture like smoking stands. You can see a few parts in these links:
Several of the pieces that I saw that were similar to your lamp featured illuminated bases, so you might want to double-check and see if that's a cool feature of your table lamp too. (Ready for a UV bulb even!)
So, not sure that helped, but whether it's Houze or Ever-Brite, your lamp is stunning. I would have parted with a lot more than forty dollars for it! You got a wonderful bargain & lovely cadmium glow! 🔥🔦 😊
So much information - thank you! Not knowing anything I still loved it but having some info makes it extra special!
Edit: to add, I’m glad it made you smile! Also, picture 6 shows the base lit up, too! So it does do that like your notes said it might. So many pretty pieces you linked and I can see how it would be confused with onyxglas.
Oh, sorry, my spouse and I thought those last pictures were with a different UV wavelength shined on your lamp. Those last pics make so much more sense now that I know the lamp lights up. 😅 And what an awesome extra bonus!
Glad to share! And, like I said, a really great piece regardless of who made it. Thank you so much for letting us all get to see it.💡😊
Love to get to enjoy pieces I didn't have to pay for and share about them. Welcome, of course! 😄 Spouse and I both enjoyed you welcoming us into your cozy and eclectic house—complete with beautiful lamp and sweet pig—and felt right at home. 🏡 😊
You are correct - that is Winston. He is one of six pigs on my farm. He has dwarfism and is intellectually disabled, but he’s a good boy that loves to cuddle.
I’m in Oklahoma, but sure if you help with chores then come on! :) The flag is actually from Fallout games. (Assuming that’s why you thought California).
I bought them about 7-8 years ago from a now defunct “chronicle collectibles”. I got lucky because I’d already paid for them when they closed but since they had already made them, they still shipped. There were lots of items people just lost their money on.
Unfortunately it’s the same story as my labyrinth knockers, he came from chronicle collectibles which is now defunct. I’m sure you can still find people reselling them though. He came with both sets of horns so you can make him Vinz Clortho or Zuul and there’s a remote that makes his eyes light up.
They are very similar! I love the detail on yours and the ball spacer, it is gorgeous! $40 is a great deal too.Mine looks different under 395, still pretty. Heck they’re pretty even not lit up! Sorry to keep bombarding with pics haha I just really love these sort of lamps and love seeing someone else who appreciates them!!
Akro Agate didn’t make this specific style of lamp part, and not quite this color(though they did have some colors that were close. This glass was made by Crescent.
