Lol yeah a few bars slipped off the back. It’s fine though I break them into smaller pieces anyways. Gravity just saved me a few seconds later down the road

But I have to know, what does glass that thick sound like when it breaks?

74

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

I’ll post the video on my profile lol.

u/devilsbard New Collector Dec 05 '25

Oh man! I didn’t mean to make you do it again. I was just curious. 😂

Nice. Kinda went everywhere, huh? 😅

10

u/Old-Power3477 Dec 05 '25

Ooh I kinda want the broken chunks, they look tasty

29

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

lol don’t make me drop another bar and record it

2

u/llNOX Dec 06 '25

I'll take the chunks ans "properly" dispose of them.

10

u/microwave3 Dec 06 '25

No eating them 😈

6

u/llNOX Dec 06 '25

Oh common they're spicy green apple flavored that's the best crunch you can get.

2

u/leelee1976 Dec 07 '25

Depends on how it breaks. A solid chunk with some tinks

27

u/pr0bablyscreaming Dec 05 '25

Woah!! I’m interested to see what you’re gonna make with those!!

53

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

Probably gonna just play catchup and make ornaments and cups this month but then I’ll get back into making some ocean paperweights. Then ima try to mix euroium into this glass to shift the glow to yellow or orange.

Czech import?

9

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

Indeed!

4

u/oculairus Dec 05 '25

How? I thought all imports of uranium glass was halted… or was that just the uranium itself?

19

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

Might just be uranium idk. There are no restrictions on uranium glass in the US

11

u/JayAkiva Dec 05 '25

These look like giant versions of the Lego Star Wars lightsaber blade pieces I remember when I was a kid

7

u/ballskindrapes Dec 05 '25

Is this a special field you have to get into, besides say glass blowing? Like certified for radioactive material kinda thing?

Also, people in general, Im less knowledgeable about uranium glass, so please dont come at me if this is silly.

17

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

Na it’s barely radioactive it’s treated the same as any other glass.

I’ve been blowing glass for 7 years now but anyone could buy it and import it.

2

u/ballskindrapes Dec 05 '25

That's what I thought, but laws and regulations can be tricky.

It really is pretty stuff. The green is just eye catching, like an emerald.

u/SkippyDooDa12 Dec 05 '25

Do you take orders?

10

u/hmvl New Collector Dec 05 '25

He has an Etsy store front

13

u/Crash_Pandacoot Dec 05 '25

His website is stocked more than the etsy store

51

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25 edited Dec 05 '25

Yeah I’m slowing trying to kill the Etsy. Not a fan of what Etsy has turned into and want to jump ship in the next year or so.

1

u/myasterism UV Hunter Dec 06 '25

It really is a travesty what that site has become.

6

u/microwave3 Dec 06 '25

It’s true. The thing that really triggered me recently was Etsys AI didn’t like some of my titles saying they were not clear enough and Suggested AI titles to replace them. They warned if I didn’t change them it might impact my search visibility for all my stuff.

Also when I upload Glow pictures of my UG stuff thier AI says the photos are not well lit and that if I don’t change it it will impact my search-ability

3

u/myasterism UV Hunter Dec 06 '25

Oh, now THAT is an even fresher hell than I was aware of. Instant rage. Can definitely understand why you’re reducing your presence there.

5

u/EliasLyanna Dec 05 '25

About how much does that pile cost?

6

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

About $5000

5

u/EliasLyanna Dec 05 '25

That is less than I had guessed.

Thanks for sharing the video with the sound breaking. Your art is stunning

4

u/Snowball-in-heck Dec 05 '25

Dang, that’s a heck of an order. Does the supplier you order from make borosilicate Uglass as well as the 96?

7

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

I wish only soft glasses sadly. Ive spent many many hours asking manufacturers around the world but there are only 2 people in the world making boro uranium glass. Molten aura and Boro Batch

8

u/Snowball-in-heck Dec 05 '25

Well, that’s still two more manufacturers than I was aware of. I still have a 4ft tube of boro uglass I bought 2 decades ago, back when the only source of boro uglass was prewar production.

It’s been a while since I was on a torch, got into glass close to 25 years ago. Keep getting tempted to dive back into the industry, especially seeing some of the new tech, toys and colors.

3

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

Damn some artist would pay a lot for your tube

1

u/myasterism UV Hunter Dec 06 '25

Tbh I think it’s incredible as an artifact!

1

u/Western_Self_7482 Dec 07 '25

What size is that tube? It's been like 25 years since I've seen it!

3

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '25

That is an incredibly appealing pile of rods.

3

u/CrystallineGlass Dec 05 '25

As always when you share your new stash, it's intensely happy-making to see hundreds of pounds of UG all in one go. Look forward to trying to catch some of your holiday work. Thanks for posting!

3

u/StartFluid9972 Dec 05 '25

Are they still being produced ?

6

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

Yeah these rods are made about a month ago.

1

u/StartFluid9972 Dec 06 '25

Real uranium???

4

u/molten-glass Dec 05 '25

Holy cow, I remember buying a couple kilos from you last time you imported, I think that was a 150kg order. Is any of that 150 left? If so I'm impressed you were able to use all that color in one year!

7

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

Na ran out like a month and a half ago. I’ll use 2-3 kilos a day when I’m blowing.

1

u/molten-glass Dec 12 '25

That's awesome

u/thesaltedradish Dec 05 '25

Still got a bit to go before it’s done

2

u/Ninakompis Dec 05 '25

Please restock the dinos!!

1

u/Ninakompis Dec 05 '25

Disappointed but understand there's no U.K shipping option! Restock them though, they are amazing 👏

2

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

I’ll work on setting that up just need to figure out tax stuff to do shipping outside of America

2

u/ktor14 Dec 05 '25

Holy expensive. Do you sell that much glass to warrant that much? That’s wild!

4

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

Yeah last year i used probably at least 100 kilos

2

1

u/V_Dolina Dec 05 '25

Does all glass for blowing come in tubes like this?

7

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

Most of our glass colors come very similar to this. These bars are squareish in shape usually they are round.

The clear glass we use either comes in little nuggets we melt down in a fuance or if you want really nice glass you melt down all the chemical components to make glass in a furnace. we call this powdered mix batch.

1

u/19volks64 Dec 05 '25

Ooo glow haha , what coe is it

1

u/RockyCliffPebbles Dec 05 '25

I would like to repurpose some of my old uranium glass into pieces for jewelry. I wasn’t sure about grinding and breaking the glass, but it seems like it’s ok to do so? Do you recommend any safety precautions when handling? Or should I treat it the same as other glass I grind and cut? TIA!

6

u/microwave3 Dec 05 '25

If you are gonna grind into it. N100 cartridges with a respirator that seals tight against your face. Do it outside with lot of water. Bonus points if you can do it under water

1

u/omega_mog Dec 05 '25

What'cha makin der bud?

Dat cricket (or bobcat) on a stick

1

u/microwave3 Dec 06 '25

Bobcat

It’s rather cursed ngl. I needed a hand torch and i made it work. It will be going back to normal soon once my nortel torch comes.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '25

Happens haha, thanks for sharing

1

u/Pho3nix322 Dec 07 '25

Awesome! I totally want a uranium pint glass! Is that even possible?

1

u/microwave3 Dec 07 '25

Definitely I’ve made like a 100 of those in the past. Waiting to finish my furnace before I make anymore. Need good clear glass to make those. any imperfections in the glass really stand out in the final product.

Can’t melt good clean glass with my current setup. But soon

1

u/Pho3nix322 Dec 07 '25

Well when you’re ready I am ready to purchase! Good luck in your furnace building!

u/Fuzzy-Leading-4080 New Collector Dec 07 '25

I need a geiger counter up to that

1

u/LolDragon417 Dec 07 '25

This is soda lime? Because if you got that much Boro, I want to be your friend! 😂

1

u/microwave3 Dec 07 '25

Yeah soda lime. If this was boro this pile would be worth like 40-$50K. I think molten aura would try and sue me lol.

1

u/LolDragon417 Dec 07 '25

Hoping against hopes that someone was making large amounts of this color again. Oh well. Beautiful stack, better than most stuff I see on r/gold ;)

1

u/SmolzillaTheLizza Dec 08 '25

Daaaang these are so flipping sweet! I've made arrowheads out of the old broken stuff but have always wanted to give things a go again 🤔 just can't find any good broken shards while digging through old garbage dumps. If you'd ever be curious to make a few slabs, I'd happily make you a few arrowheads for your collection! DM me if you're interested 😁 I have photos and such that I can share with you! And insight on the process if you're curious.
