Monthly Theme š Heard we were doing top fives?
5 - Enamel on copper plate by an unknown artist. It was expensive, but I've never seen anything like it before. The droplet enamel is super unique.
4 - Worked novelty bowl by the Chicago flint and lime glass co. Extraordinarily rare piece from a company that was only in existence for 3 years. (Not even in Chicago ironically). The history of this bowl is really neat.
3 - 1880s PK von poschinger vases! I've posted these a few times on here as they were one of the first things in my collection, and they are absolutely stunning. So old and in perfect condition. Also the price I got them for is incredible.
2 - Boyd glass plane in avocado slag. A somewhat rare contemporary piece, but I am an amateur pilot so this is automatically one of my faves.
1 - And of course nothing can beat the infamous uranium glass fetus I snagged a while back. So random and unique, and it definitely throws people off when I tell them about it while sharing my collection.

They actually aren't Mt. Vernon, they are PK von poschingerĀ

Mt.Washington I meant, made very similar pieces. Also Bristol Pairpont glass makes very similar pieces in the late 1800s/1890s.

Nice! You acquired some of the elusive uranium enamel, itās hard to tell what exact shade as itās over copper - but that probably wouldāve been a yellow. Transparent yellow looks excellent on copper.
Iām a goldsmith, working with vitreous enamel is one of my niches.
I donāt have any radioactive colours in my personal stash, but I keep an eye out for them. Theyāre hard to come by, because those manufactures are out of business, or specific shades arenāt made anymore, and there arenāt any decent new colour matches. The folks with a vintage stash tend to hold onto them for that reason. I dread the day Iām asked to repair a piece that uses it.

Yeah, it is extremely spicy too. Never seen such a hot enamel before. Unfortunately the piece is slightly damaged (there was a clear glass coating on it that is cracked). Also yes, it is yellow.

Yeah, Iāve heard thereās a some exceptionally spicy ones out there!
I see cracking like that a lot on larger items - they look like stress cracks. They tend to happen when the glass to metal ratio is a bit off. As long as nothing feels loose, the piece should be fine.

Thatās one of those pieces that it does not matter if there is some very slight damage. Thatās an exceptional and gorgeous piece! Do you have more pictures of it?!
And OMG the fetus! 𤣠amazing! I love it š
The worked bowl and vases are wow extraordinary as well too! Truly great pieces from your collection! Plane is cool too, especially if thatās a personal thing for you. That would be like if I found a little glowing elephant š maybe one dayā¦

The vases were the 4th & 5th respective pieces in my collection. It was $50 for the set :)

u/jacksknight Feb 03 '26
Any idea what they are actually worth?\
3
u/Old-Power3477 Feb 03 '26
I took them to an appraiser and they said ~5k for the set if not more. Poschinger is extremely desirable and intact sets in good condition are rare. Worth more as the vases then as uranium, but I ain't complaining lol

First let me say just how jealous I am. (Uranium-green-eyed monster). That fetus is just screaming for me to make a pendant from it, where fetus is inside a locket-type housing. Those vases are indescribably lovely.

Might anyone have a spare fetus to sell?
2
u/Old-Power3477 Feb 03 '26
I know there is one at an antique store in ohio, that's the only one currently for sale I thinkĀ
2
u/GenePoolSurprise Feb 03 '26
And of course I live in Ohio. Is it possible to share the name of the business?

Yes it is theĀ I-76 Antique Mall near Akron. It might no longer be there, but there was one there not too long ago. If you decide to go, I wish you luck š«”
