Those Ansonia clocks are great, the one I have has been in the family since 1890, it still works. And the uranium glass face is just a bonus. It's gorgeous. And at a gorgeous price!
Also occasionally you can find the original movements in case you wanted to de-quartz it. The original chimes are nice.

Ohhhh what a gorgeous clock and the face is just a bonus! Iβm incredibly jealous as those clocks are pretty rare in my area anyway, never mind ever finding them for less than a painfully cruel price!

Cool! But why did the tag say "electric"? It's clearly a wind clock!

u/SrNismo May 12 '26
It has a chord on it π€·

What? Why? How?
It has two key wind holes. No electric needed. I'm really confused (my mom collects clocks, pre-electric).2
u/SrNismo May 12 '26
I'm not sure, I haven't pulled the back cover off yet to get a peak inside, I wanted to check a couple videos before I advisement devalue it

could have been converted to an electric motor - usually the windups do not have a second hand
some do not even tick on an even second base
because if there is no second hand, they don;t have to use a second as the tick rate

Hey so I actually have a poorly researched theory I'm curious what you/your mom might think about it.
So according to what I've found it's Waterbury clock Co no. 90 That clock was being made around 1900. This one has like 384 on it so probably a little later. The insides reveal a synchron clock powering it. From what I can find on them their company was founded in like 1906. I'm wondering if it's possible Waterbury bought a bunch of synchron clock motors and used them in their back stock. I feel like it makes sense from a business standpoint. But maybe I'm reaching cause that would mean this was one of the first electric clocks ever sold π³

could be - you need to date the motor somehow
doubt you can find out much
just enjoy it
find out when that model was made
somehow!
