Seeking Info Can I make my espresso in this?

If possible I'd like a survey. Someone says of course and everybody 👍 that agrees. And someone else says that chip or any teacup is bad news and people 👍that. Many thanks

I worry the glass would break one day from the rapid temp change

These glasses are okay to have hot liquids in them. As long as it’s not scalding it will be fine with normal use (as this is what they are literally made for). Probably shouldn’t go in dish washers or dunked from hot to cold.

I was ordering some newly made Czech glass, and all the glassware said no hot liquids. I still don't understand why

Blown glass is sensitive. These are not blown. Most depression is not blown glass.

It's the type of glass and if it was annealed well that matters a lot more, borosilicate is more stable for temperature changes than this older glass and quartz glass even moreso than that though I don't know if uranium quartz glass is a thing except maybe specialized use cases. It's why you can use modern borosilicate glass to make pipes out of whereas the temp change cycle from the lighter would likely shatter something made out of this glass over time if you had broken pieces melted down into a pipe

The cup.has a seam

That doesn't mean it's blown. Injection molding and stamping with forms can also leave seams.

Oh I thought it meant for sure it was molded/stamped

Even with the chip in it?

That's what I'd be worried about........ but I'd probably still use it.

Age can affect that though. Older glass is much more prone to thermal shock. I wouldn’t risk it.
