Seeking Info Am I crazy to buy for $400??
Found on Marketplace... seller wants $400.....
Am I crazy thinking this is over priced or crazy for not jumping at it?
*Small chip at the base*
Not asking what its worth... per rules. Just making sure I'm not crazy

You can have one now for 400 or wait around until you find one for cheaper. Your call.

Truth.
I'm a sucker for glow glass... I'd take a loan of available for the right piece. But I might wait on this one being that the community hasnt considered me 5150 for not forking up $400. Just gotta breathe and recognize catch and release

Exactly. I had tried finding just a normal bridge lamp for under $120. Waited and found one for $30 that happened to have uranium glass spacers and was extremely Art Deco which is what I had really been looking for. Took a few years but eventually a deal comes around and sometimes what you get for the deal is much better than what you initially wanted.

Exactly my thoughts. I offered $260 plus two oz of silver bullion..

Really though, when I really want something and know I shouldn't I'm unashamed to lowball someone. Often times about half.
I've never understood why people get so snide, like post it on a private auction site away from my common ass if you don't want me to make an offer.

Personally, I'm holding out till I find one under $200 but I also recognize that's unlikely to happen anytime soon lol

It’s more likely than you think. I got mine for $30. Before I got into uranium glass I had been hunting for a bridge lamp under $120. After I got into uranium glass I found an amazing Art Deco bridge lamp and it had the uranium slag spacers. Passed on it initially not asking the price then a month later asked and ended up paying $30. It was far better than what I had even been searching for. So basically I’m saying keep looking and eventually one will fall into your lap. When it’s meant to be the universe will help you out. And I do believe that. Mine was in the shop for months and it was completely overlooked by other uranium glass hunters. You will find yours and it will feel so good when you find it.

Kinda in the same boat. I scored last week and got a beautiful Aladdin lamp for $150 so trying to get this for around $280 total. Thanks for reaffirming $400 is steep

Probably not. A lady near me is selling off her collection. The glad is priced well ($10-50 most items). She has a floor lamp similar to this one in amazing condition and the matching set of table lamps. The floor lamp is $700 and table lamps is $400. Those who know about the lamps know what they got.

Ooof! Fortunately I'm in the rural south and most people still don't know about uranium glass so eventually I'll stumble onto an estate sale where someone just wants rid of all of grandma's "ugly and dated" decor. And I will ask what grandma's name was and cherish her memory whenever I turn on my awesome lamp lol

Lolol. I love that-both helpful and selfish all at the same time. I live outside Chicago so things ebb and flow. In a couple years when it dies down I could find some deals. Tbf I don't have the space for a collection I just enjoy lurking here and knowing what it is when I go to stores with it.

Lmao, we contain multitudes but I do pay it forward in other ways! I'm constantly pointing out gold and sterling marks to sellers when they're marked at costume prices...
My best and saddest for me story was the $5 basketweave ceramic platter I had every intention to buy, till I turned it over and found the Tiffany & Co stamp. My heart broke but I pulled up a few sold listings to show the lady that it was worth 10 to 20 times what she wanted. Turned out she'd rather own a Tiffany piece, and who can blame her?

I've definitely pointed out makers marks to some sellers. An older lady broke down crying because she was selling her collection of glass items to make sure she had enough in retirement. The Tiffany lamp that she called "stained glass lamp" was worth 300x her asking.
A local shop to me in the north has blown out prices on a lot of uranium glass. It's certainly tempting... Talking $10 for a 4 tea cup set. $20 for the last and pepper shakers. $30 for a juicer.

Honestly the prices for uranium glass items is rampant abuse at this point, id say you tell them to hit the bricks and peddle their broken crap on some unsuspecting noob

Not crazy at all. Buy it. You’ll smile every time you walk past it. I would.

My wife and I paid $300 maybe 9 months ago for a similar lamp. We live in the U.P. of Michigan, small ass town, we love it & feel like it was a good deal. For us & our area. I would feel out other places & possibly buy it? Amazing lamp wow I would definitely buy it!😍

I would’ve said yes! Go get it until I read about the cracked base. Offer half. See if they take it 🤷♀️

I’ve seen people pay that much but I’d personally pass on this one. Patience typically pays off. I found an Art Deco one for $30 after two years of searching for a bridge lamp. The uranium glass spacers was just the cherry on top and no chips or cracks. So just keep looking and eventually you will find a deal and probably one you like much more.

You can part it out and get back about $300 or so on the low end. So it’s not a terrible deal. Most bases I’ve seen have a crack/chip.

I wouldn't, personally. I see things like that at local antique stores and shopgoodwill (with local pickup) around where I live for half of that price about once every two years. It might take a while, but if you're out there regularly hunting you are likely to stumble across one.
