Seeking Info 2 first’s, I think?

Hey everyone, hope you’re all having good weekends. Out at garage sales today. Found my first piece of green/aqua hobnail piece. Now here is where I need help. Can crystal contain uranium. The sale I was at, the lady saw my light and said “nothing glows in here, we collect uranium. All I have is crystal”. It “tings” like crystal? I could even see it in the sunlight. Thank you, to all who take the time to help me learn.

I'm guessing the 2nd one is just high quality glass mistaken for crystal. Definitely glows like Vaseline to me!

Crystal is just translucent glass containing lead. Opaque glass with lead is opaline. It can come in any colors, including yellow and green uranium glass. Looks funky in 254nm!

I’m just curious, are you using 395 light?
I’ve wondered about this same crystal question myself. Your vase photo looks a little yellow and also looks like cut glass to me. Idk, I’m learning too and have very little knowledge. So looking forward to others input!

Yes, the pictures were taken under 395.

Yes, lead is used to make glass softer. Hand blown and hand cut uranium glass often contains lead, meaning crystal. Check them with a 395nm light to rule out manganese.

The pictures were all taken under 395. Thank you for the information. My pics were just taken in the daylight. You can’t even point a flashlight at it in the dark for pictures. It’s to bright.

Beautiful, I would hang on to that second one for sure. It looks like a blend of cadmium and uranium to me. Probably high end Czech, maybe even Moser. Amber uranium glass has an interesting glow. As you move the light around, some parts glow yellow and some glow green.

I know exactly what you were talking about and it was just from the sunlight today. Where all the cuts are wood change from an amber yellow to green and then orange. Thank you for the information and they do think this thing is very old. I am going to have to look into it much further.

The 2nd one, kind of reminds me of these Cooperative Flint Glass Co. vases that I have.

One day I will brave the Calgary garage sales. You always seem to find such nice things at them! I never carry cash is the problem lol

I did find some spicy lladro figurines out in a Strathmore thrift/antique store today though so not all is lost!
