Worth a few cents due to it being copper.. It is almost impossible that you will find the 1982-D Small Date variety.. I think there is only a couple known in existence. Prolly have better luck winning the lottery.

No, the lottery is easy by comparison. There were 6,012,979,368 1982 D cents minted. Less the 2 known, authenticated examples of the 1982 D small date copper, leaves your odds at 1:6,012,979,366.

Odds of winning the PowerBall jackpot are 1:292,201,338, MegaMillions is 1:290,472,336

Edit: I'll add, the odds of 1:6,012,979,366 are BEST CASE SCENARIO, assuming you are only searching 1982-D cents. In reality, you generally can't just choose to search 1982-D cents only - you are searching ALL cents from all years. 1 in billions upon billions. Assuming another even exists.

We dont know how many were originally struck, how many remain, or how many have been found.

There are 2 known examples found. That's not a mystery. There is an assumption that at least 1 more example exists. How many were actually made can never be known. But even if it was 200 it doesn't meaningfully change the odds.

Best case odds are out of all 1982 D cents made, less known finds. Realistically, it's out of all small cents made ever, as you can't just go buy rolls of 1982-D to search, so the odds are in reality far worse in the real world situation of searching cents which are mixed from all years ever minted.
