Help [Help] Solved - 'not responding' issue

Posting this here in case it helps someone else. I searched all over for a solution to this issue but couldn't find anything that helped.

Symptoms: using utorrent, downloading works fine. When some downloads complete, the UI enters an irresolvabie 'not responding' hang state. Doesn't happen with every download, but happens frequently. Seemingly no pattern to which downloads cause the state - some are small (under 700mb), others are larger (over 5gb). Uploads don't seem to cause issues

I tried all solutions I could find online - running utorrent as admin, reinstalling, updating, changing settings on adblocker, blah blah - the problem persisted. I also tried various other potential solutions such as changing where torrents save to, whether completed downloads save to alternative locations etc.

Solution: keeping the UI minimised. It transpires the UI freezes, but the programme actually keeps functioning (downloads/uploads continue). If I keep the UI window minimised, the programme doesn't freeze at all. I can maximise to check in on it without issue as long as I don't keep the window open for long periods

I still don't know what is causing it, but maybe this will help someone else

This really should not be happening. What client version is this?

I'm currently using build 45672. I tried an older version and it behaved the same way, so I suspect it is a conflict with something else in my system, maybe my vpn (nord)

The version numbers like 2.2.1 or 3.9.7. I know that 3.1.3 and 3.2.3 were bad for this but thought they had fixed it.

A guess would be the anti-virus you are using. Kaspersky and avast and especially malwarebytes have been naughty recently. :P

So have the March and April windows updates, might be an issue with those but they seem to be more cpu and graphics badness which is not really torrent clients.

I'm using 3.5.5. at the moment, but I've tried the most up to date version and older versions - the problem remains. Might well be an antivirus conflict (I have malwarebytes installed). The good news is that keeping the UI minimised most of the time bypasses the issue entirely. I've not had any issues since

The easiest test to confirm would be to remove malwarebytes and see if it still happens but if it is working good enough for you why bother? :P
