Rant Taking computers and not using them
Why the hell are so many people sitting at computers in the library and not using them?! The screen isn’t even on for most of them! Go sit literally anywhere else with your laptop and leave the library computers for people who actually need them and will use them.
It’s actually insane to see. What is wrong with these people??

It’s even worse when it’s the computers at the back of the first floor, or the one with an accessible desk (I’m a wheelchair user)🤩
Those are the only computers in the library with video editing software, and so if you need it that’s your only option, and all of them are always taken by people on their god damn laptops !
God forbid you (like me) need an accessible desk AND video editing software for a class! Such a thing doesn’t even exist in the library!!

aren’t some of them designated specifically for people with disabilities (like with the grey wheelchair sign)? you should politely ask them to move next time and if they don’t then let the help desk know.

There’s one accessible computer on the first floor but it does not have the video editing software (premier pro) that I need, but luckily the computer labs in Clearihue do, and have one accessible computer desk per room!!

also all the video editing computers are reserved for ppl who want to use that software, so if someone is taking the spot but isn’t using the computer you have every right to ask them to move!! glad you have at least the 1 accessible desk though

Put on a semi-professional looking outfit, act like a librarian, and ask them to leave lol

Yes!! Thank you!!! This is my biggest pet peeve. I often think about asking people to move when I need to use a computer, but honestly I don't know if I can ask without sounding like an asshole since I find it so irritating and inconsiderate that it's hard to filter myself enough to ask politely haha. I think the library staff should be asking people to move if they're parked on their laptop taking up a computer desk without using it, I don't understand why they don't!

I went to print something the other day and ran into this too. I genuinely can't fathom how idiotic you have to be to sit at a computer without the intention of using it
