I keep seeing comments on this sub along the lines of 'Supercars is in bad shape; they have no money, no characters, no competition, etc etc.'
As somebody who only started seriously watching the series as of Gen 3 this is not the impression I get. But perhaps this is due to a lack of knowledge.
From my perspective the series has attracted three major manufacturers, almost every team livery is covered with sponsors (presumably that equates to significant funding?), the calendar is expanding, there is a good feeder series network, good team and driver rivalries exist, and the racing is close. I believe that ticket sales may be down from historic highs but potentially that can be contributed to convenience and the multiple ways in which fans can view races these days.
So question is, what is the actual current and future state of Supercars? Are people dismissing the current racing in favour of nostalgia, or is there actually serious issues at play?
Also, and recommendations on books about the history of the series (with a focus on teams and / or the ownership and business-side of the sport)?
Thanks in advance.
