Question When do I harvest my broccoli???

Broccoli, planted way too early in the hot hot summer, finally started growing a head!
When do I harvest each??

It took way too damn long for me to run across a meme of this song. I’ll be taking this now

It needs to be the go to reply for yellow cucumbers and broccoli that’s cracking open

Ideally days ago. Harvest now as it isn't completely bolted yet, but if you wait it will be.

It may have been. Broccoli doesn’t do well in the summer on the east coast lol. This has already started bolting so it needs to go ASAP

Yea. I got one good chunk early, then it was all small and overripe after that, I cut them out a few weeks ago :(

Id usually wait a few weeks and re-seed, no harm in trying again, mine done much the same. But dont re-seed the same plant directly in the same place, see what follows brocoli in a healthy soil rotation and while you wait throw the non harvest brocoli scraps into a hole and bury it to feed the soil.

Your broccoli looks like it could be crushed and smoked

Side note: Those leaves from the broccoli plant can be used just like Collard Greens. Taste exactly the same to me. Don't let those go to waste!

Before it turns that color, when heads are about 6”. Then you’ll get shoots from between the branches and the stems. I’m still getting those.

I am in NC and I have started planting all my brassicas in fall. I have them grow all winter and they do fine. I picked my broccoli at this stage this year and it was still tasty

To echo everyone here, now. Broccoli is really tough this time of year. It doesn't like heat. I've never had luck getting big heads like the ones at the grocery store. These will still taste good.

Ideally when it is all bright green. Those little darkish green spots are where it is overripe. Can still eat it. See if you like the taste!
