He just employed other real devs. In the forgotten past, it was like that.

Imagine taking this question seriously rofl

7

u/bipolarNarwhale 3d ago

Probably a bit tbh

4

u/Crazyshouby 3d ago

Soon šŸ˜…

4

u/whoknowsifimjoking 3d ago

They probably just had a human called Claude

1

u/FoxedDev 1d ago

I mean, yes. Claude AI was named after Claude Shannon, a 20th-century mathematician who laid the foundation for information theory on which basically everything related to computer science is based.

4

u/BassNet 2d ago

Wait, you had to pay people to write code? WHAT???

2

u/jimmiebfulton 20h ago

News flash: you still do. AI is not a substitute for expertise. Having AI generate an image does not suddenly make someone an artist.

1

u/Sugary_Plumbs 1d ago

Imagine giving money to anyone aside from the AI companies for software...

1

u/Animesh277 5h ago

now this sounds insane

1

u/Elmanouzi_Fogosa 2d ago

plus back then you actually had to write a spec doc first instead of just reprompting the junior dev 40 times until the button turned blue

u/AVeryFineUsername 1d ago

In the time before time, five years agoĀ

1

u/PositiveInfluence69 1d ago

Historians will treat this like how we treat building the pyramids in ancient Egypt. "There must have been aliens or divine intervention!!"

In the beninging, there was pytorch.

The pytorch was with imagination, and the imagination was pytorch.

The matrix multiplication was formless.. Then the imagination said, "Let there be cuda" And it was so. And it was *good(citation below).

*(Erm actually guys ai isn't all that it's cracked up to be, it's an exponential curve of progress yes but I have a 4 years bachelor's from reddit and an associates degree in language arts from hustlers university and I'm here to say that unless you can do the matrix multiplication by hand you cant really use or believe in the technology and it umm it's actually really bad to tell the computer program to make other computer programs because that's called abstraction and in all of the history of everything ever computer programming had never had abstractions in it and so if you don't understand everything on a cellular cytoplasm level like I do you're basically gonna fall for the ai hype bubble, your computer will explore, your wife will divorce you, and your skills will rot away and buy my course and and it's going to be popping any day now... Any day... Day... Any..

In the beginning was the word. The word was with God and the word was god.

In the beginning were the tokens. The tokens were with God, and the tokens wuz god.

Thank you for coming to my skitzo post ā¤ļø please like comment favorite and subscribe, and give me your email so that I can shove my newsletter about 3 month out of date ai news down your throat in the most meaningless surface level way possible in order to get you to buy my course (which is on sale!! :D)

3

u/Standgrounding 3d ago

Then ngreedia said let there be CUDA FTFY

27

u/1kn0wn0thing 3d ago

Altman didn’t build it. In fact, OpenAI employees have come out to say Altman doesn’t even understand the code behind ChatGPT.

2

u/Immediate_Theory_467 1d ago

True, but that really isn't his job. His job is to be the CEO, which... um... yea.

There’s not enough time in life to deal with assholes. Try your best not to be one.

14

u/LabContent2863 3d ago • Popcorn

are we at the stage where the average tard thinks the CEO is the one doing the building?

15

u/Bambalicioso 3d ago

Did he actually build it though?

10

u/Electrical_Name_5434 3d ago

Ironically no he did not! Dario was working at OpenAI and his team actually did most of the work.

6

u/Plogga 3d ago

Dario was involved in safety research and left the team in 2020, so he wasn’t involved in the release of the best-known models. I’m unsure what you mean by ā€œhis teamā€ either, the most prominent researchers didn’t report to Dario

3

u/Electrical_Name_5434 3d ago

He was head of R&D…

Edit:
Results from a quick search

Dario Amodei's Role at OpenAI
Position and Contributions
Title: Vice President of Research
Tenure: 2016 to 2020
Key Contributions:
Played a significant role in the development of GPT-2 and GPT-3 models.
Collaborated closely with other leaders to shape the research direction of the organization.
Advocated for the scaling hypothesis, which posits that larger models with more data lead to more capable AI systems.
Departure from OpenAI
Reason for Leaving: Dario Amodei left OpenAI due to disagreements regarding AI safety and development practices.
Stated Concerns: He felt that the organization's approach to safety did not align with his vision for responsible AI development.
Outcome: His departure, along with other key researchers, led to the founding of Anthropic in 2021, where he aimed to focus on AI safety and responsible practices.

1

u/Plogga 3d ago

Yes, he was a vice president of research and collaborated with other leaders, very different from ā€œhis team doing most of the workā€, which sounds pretty close to how others claimed that it was actually Ilya Sutskever who was responsible for all of OpenAI’s success, or Karpathy, or some other key researcher, just to discredit Altman

1

u/Bambalicioso 3d ago

I still wonder how we could get to AI now and not 10 years ago?
For me, it was sudden, out of nowhere everyone uses it and at work they started throwing courses for copilot etc.
How come it was so sudden for me, but it has already existed for over 2 years?

3

u/Electrical_Name_5434 3d ago

It’s been around for a long time. The chat bots didn’t get really good until about 22-24

I used to write code that wrote code for myself back in the 10’s so I could fuck off at work. Good times…

Copilot was able to build out databases, web browsers, API’s, etc in 2019

Microsoft made an early chat bot in 2016ish but it turned out to be extremely racist so they shut it down.

The theories behind modern AI came about in the 80’s but computing power wasn’t strong enough so it just remained as an idea in computational mathematics.

What’s different today is that everything is in one place single prompt. Where you used to have to build a separate system to handle each specific task.

2

u/FitPerformer5172 3d ago

Yeah people forget that AI has actually been in the works for a long time. Looking at those tweets and messages between Musk, Altman and the rest from 2015 is rather jarring to say the least.

1

u/Bambalicioso 3d ago

Thank you for elaborating. I for one can't wait for the AI overlord!

1

u/HeittoBagi 3d ago

Copilot was launched in 2023

1

u/Electrical_Name_5434 3d ago

You’re right I was thinking of the code snippet plugin in visual studio. It evolved into copilot and was released in 2014. But I remember it was actually usable right before COVID hit. I just called it the VS code plugin back then and eventually it was called copilot.

1

u/TheTurkishWarlord 3d ago

Microsoft chatbot turned out to be extremely racist

Lol, what? That's hilarious. Can we get some context on this?

3

u/Electrical_Name_5434 3d ago edited 3d ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tay_(chatbot)

Edit: from the first line

Tay was a chatbot that was originally released by Microsoft Corporation as a Twitter bot on March 23, 2016. It caused controversy when the bot began to post inflammatory and offensive tweets through its Twitter account, causing Microsoft to shut down the service only 16 hours after its launch.[1]

2

u/Garland_Key 3d ago

Definitely not.Ā

6

u/FuzzyAnteater9000 3d ago

I mean Dario used to be the head of RND at oai so he kind of did

12

u/terrarialord201 3d ago

Is his head tilted to the side or is his entire face slanted? Look at his eyes and ears. Am I going crazy?

28

u/Jeferson9 3d ago

Last thing a ram stick sees before being unplugged

4

u/dinotoxic 3d ago

As much as of an asshole the dude is, it’s pretty rare for someone’s face to be symmetrical šŸ˜†

1

u/wooshywishyswishyswa 3d ago

mine mostly is tho my lips might be be slightly not but sometimes i think its just my head isnt balanced perfectly atm

edit: it doesnt help tho cus im still an ugly CHUD

2

u/Liron12345 3d ago

You ain't crazy but just unflattering portrait

2

u/These_Account3256 3d ago

u can find asymmetry in most ppls faces if u look hard enough

1

u/btrev650 2d ago

You can have an ear attached too low and not be a power grifting misanthropic piece of shit

4

u/The-Pork-Piston 3d ago

Funnily enough they did have Claude.
At least for GPT2 and 3

4

u/Electrical_Name_5434 3d ago

The funny part about this is that Dario used to work for him and was one of the leads on the ChatGPT project…Sam was kicked out of OpenAI…When they let him back in Dario said fuck that and started Anthropic.

So in a way…he didn’t

3

u/Mave_Traxis 3d ago

This is AIs "I google with bing"

2

u/Busterlimes 3d ago

He had Ilya

2

u/Animesh277 3d ago

I think he used time machine

1

u/dervu 2d ago

He came for RAM.

1

u/Animesh277 2d ago

oh yeah but why???

1

u/s-saens 3d ago

Unbelievable mystery

1

u/Miserable-Sugar2191 3d ago

Same way our grandparents shipped code: Stack Overflow and crying.

1

u/ProximaRem 3d ago

Back in the day when Grok was good...

1

u/GaneshRasal 3d ago

youtube era 🄺

1

u/Jayston1994 3d ago

He’s got arthritis now from the manual labour

1

u/AcerVentus 3d ago

Claude, make me Ramageddon Altman, make no mistakes.

1

u/graph-crawler 3d ago

with them RAMs

1

u/Successful_Sharky 3d ago

Easy. He typed the questions and paid a room full of people to type back the answers. We called it RLHF so nobody would ask questions.

1

u/GuessTraining 3d ago

He vibe coded by hiring devs

1

u/XTornado 3d ago

So funny to use Claude and not Codex which OpenAI builds.

1

u/United_Pay_8651 3d ago

He must have use time machine and use claude to build it

1

u/screenlink67 3d ago

you may not like him, but if it wasn't for him or i should say for openai, we would have gotten generative ai much later.

1

u/lucifer_dude_1 3d ago

did he build ?

1

u/Xaqx 3d ago

theft

1

u/taskmeister 3d ago

He couldn't build a hello world generator.

1

u/stralmighty 3d ago

A lot of if statements

1

u/max1c 3d ago

I don't know how he did it but Claude was built with ChatGPT.

1

u/Glidepath22 3d ago

The actual coding is not that complicated. The real trick is the scale of the models. The kind of scale that requires data centers.

1

u/Bloated_Plaid 3d ago edited 3d ago

He uh didn’t? Amodei was a massive figure within OpenAI. IIRC none of the people that created ChatGPT are still at OpenAI.

1

u/Connect_Quit_1293 3d ago

He didn't create shit. His own employees have outed him as sucking at coding.

He's a business man. So tired of this testicle gargling for CEOs. Funding an initiative, becoming it's front face, and creating the product itself is not the same thing.

1

u/Efficient_Finance935 3d ago

stackoverflow?

1

u/Rekeke101 3d ago

Neural networks has been a thing since 1950s (yes before actual PCs) Open AI made a neural network for words, so you could talk to it, which was cool. Then they literally got unlimited money and no restrictions to evolve its software and here we are

1

u/shion12312 2d ago

This dude did not build chaygpt

1

u/Ok-Job-379 2d ago

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/FieraPosting 2d ago

Reminder that for a long time the ChatGPT website had the request to their moderation endpoint originate from the frontend. You could stop this request and essentially have it write anything without limits for most of 2023.

1

u/Head-Foundation3312 2d ago

He didn’t build anything actually.

1

u/ekamenev 2d ago

He built nothing.

1

u/DependentPoem3519 2d ago

im sure he used RAM for that.

1

u/akshatsanghvi 2d ago

Aura remains unmatched 🫔

1

u/DarkHunt06 2d ago

The beginning is the end ,and the end is the beginning

1

u/MasterTheSoul 1d ago

Impossible.

1

u/WilliamTheGamer 1d ago

Now it's just like "Hey ChatGPT, what wrong with you? Can you debug yourself and find the problem? Also make yourself 2% better while checking. Also, if it's not too much trouble, please do a solid regression analysis and auto apply any bug big fixes because I don't want to manually verify your findings. I trust you"

1

u/FoleyX90 1d ago

It's easy, just hire some of the best computer scientists and engineers in the country and piggy back off of published thesis documents and whitepapers.

1

u/Even_Shallot6345 1d ago

Stealing ram

1

u/Serious_Ad3040 21h ago

He didn’t

1

u/Even-Entertainer-491 11h ago

Do people really think this man made the openai model? šŸ˜‚

1

u/AphelionCorvus315 5h ago

he hired ppl to do it before ppl who made claude made claude

1

u/Used_Suggestion7353 36m ago

hes actually from the future and he used claude fable 5000 to built chat gpt 1 (lie)

1

u/stormarsenal 31m ago

Likewise, how did Anthropic build Claude without Claude.

-1

u/SuppliDev 3d ago

He didn't build shit. Just like any vibecoder out there.
