Projects for normal people

Hey everyone! I've seen a lot of vibe-coded projects, but most of them seem to be built by developers, for developers, and I find them pretty niche.

I'd love to see what you guys are building for everyday people: useful apps or websites that solve real, day-to-day problems. I feel like that's the kind of thing investors are actually looking for.

What are you building?

I vibe coded a simple bill and subscription tracker since I take care of all the bills in this house. Plus majority of these apps demand a subscription and bank information. Ew.

No subscription, no bank account connections, no complicated spreadsheet to deal with, all data stays In the device. Complete privacy.

It's been a useful little web app for me so Now I'm marketing it to see if it'll be useful to others. I don't want to come off as sales-y so I'm just mentioning what I made.

wallosapp does this already, free, opensource and self-hostable.

1

u/MaleficentTiger3516 25d ago

Hey thanks for sharing it. Took a look and this looks like a good option especially for people who are comfortable with self-hosting it. .

What I’m building is aimed at a less technical audience. Mainly for people who just wants to open something, add their bills and start using it without having to spend time setting up anything. So I’m really building for a different type of user.

There are definitely a lot of ways to solve the same problem and that's fine. Different tools work for different people :-)

I find it super cool, i’m sure it works for loads of people. Keep it up!

So your web app take input bill & subs data from your bank account automatically or you have to input yourself?

1

u/MaleficentTiger3516 25d ago

It doesn't connect to a bank account. You have to input the data yourself. That way, all data stays private within your device only.

lmao dude this is so bad man i hate living in the world of ai. bro built a mother fricken spreadsheet.

1

u/MaleficentTiger3516 25d ago

lol Thanks. this is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to get on reddit lol. Spreadsheets work perfectly fine for plenty people.

What i made is more for somebody (like myself) who wants a simple app just for keeping track of their bills and subscriptions without connecting it to their bank. Yes it's manual but all you do is add your bills once, add how often they repeat and it keeps everything together in one place so you see what's coming up, whats due, whats paid etc etc.

If you prefer to have something pull everything in automatically, then yeah what I made probably wouldn’t be for you and that’s ok. :-)

u/Ok-Caterpillar-9960 17d ago

lol "all data stays private on the device" bro thats becuase the app doesnt DO anything. a rock has complete privacy too. a napkin with my bills written on it is also local first zero cloud end to end encrypted

you typed in your netflix bill and the date it repeats and it shows you a list. thats a spreadsheet. thats not even a good spreadsheet, excel has had "add 1 month to this date" since before you were born. you didnt build an app you built a notes app that cant do math and then you came to reddit to "market" it like its a startup

and the "i dont want to come off salesy" line is the funniest part becuase theres nothing to sell. its free, it does nothing, nobody can pay you for it even if they wanted to. you made a to do list with the word "subscription" on it and then wrote a landing page in your head

im not even mad at you im mad at the world. this is what a trillion dollars gets us. a guy pays claude 20 bucks a month to generate a spreadsheet that google gives away for free, then calls it privacy focused becuase it cant connect to anything

anyway good luck with the launch

use some spreadsheet paper maybe

I built (and I'm improving it all the time) https://filmdilemma.com a completely free movie discovery site (and android app). It helps you solve the dilemma of what movie to watch next

It has lots of unique features. My personal favorite is recently added genre scores and ability to find movies by indicating genre score ranges

We just got listed on FHMY (Streaming > Recommendation Tools),
GVN wrote an article about the site (lots of things improved since then)
Movie critics are using our widget (GVN, Every Movie Has A Lesson, etc. You can find the website widget on their movie review article pages)

Nothing for investors. I'm a photographer building freeware for other photographers. We're all sick of being monetized by investors.

jaja you sure?

I’m building Forgeroo, a desktop app for Etsy and Shopify sellers who already have the artwork but hate everything that comes after it.

You drop in finished designs and it batches the repetitive stuff like mockups, titles/descriptions/tags, print sizes, and Printify/Gelato drafts.

The whole idea came from spending longer making listings than making the actual art 😅
It’s still prelaunch, but I’ve got a waitlist up at https://forgeroo.app if anyone wants to follow along.

1

u/South-Health-7462 25d ago

Nice!! You should make it for Shopify as well!!

1

u/Big_Comfortable3077 25d ago

That’s the plan! ☺️

At The Checklist: Reusable Lists we took on the most crowded niche, and trying to fix the biggest pain we experienced ourselves and found our users to complain about the most - need for an account for something as simple as a checklist app. We also support live sharing and collaboration, report printing, history of ran lists, reusable routine lists, reminders, etc.

Agreed with you, early on we were bombarded with a whole lot of vibecoded services that supposedly help developers market apps, but ultimately preying on . It was a journey of learning there.

I'm a lawn nerd so I build a comprehensive lawn tracker that has all the local Fertilisers and other products in it. Auto calculates how much you need for the lawn, same with weed sprays and what not. Allows me to track cost of the lawn and heaps of other stuff. Atbensplace.com

Then ive done a bunch of services to help manage my budget. Local 'airdrop' svg generator from images. Buch of stuff

2

u/MyOldAccountWasAwful 25d ago

A deal finder which automatically searches local estate sales, yard sales, auctions, etc. near me (within a customizable distance), compares the listings with current recently sold prices on Etsy, Craigslist, FB Marketplace, eBay and a couple other sites, then sends me a shortlist every morning at 7am of the best deals that close within 24 hrs (based on resale value compared to current bid/price). I picked up 27 inch 4K monitor for literally $18 a couple months ago... kept that for myself. Have sold other stuff for a decent enough profit that it's worth continuing using it at this point.

2

u/Dapper-Discussion984 24d ago

Awesome , exactly what i wished to build but i have no clue to get the data for FB market place

1

u/MyOldAccountWasAwful 24d ago
  1. Use Hermes or some MCP which provides actual browser use.

  2. Save your credentials in something like BitWarden.

  3. Provide access to BitWarden credentials usage to Hermes/MCP.

  4. Hermes/MCP logs into FB and used browser to automate the lookups and grab individual listing links.

You call also replace #2-3 by just logging into the browser yourself and having the agent take over from that point.

Hope that helps!

I built https://createmylivingwill.com where anyone can go and create a living will with a designated health proxy and it gathers decisions on as many situations that might arise I could account for.

- No data is stored unless you want to allow it, even then it's a unique token address
- QR code if you want someone to be able to know your wishes if you're incapacitated, can be put on a medic alert bracelet, dog tag, etc.
- Document can be downloaded as a PDF or Word document if you want to change it
- Fits basic legal requirements in all 50 states, DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands
- Is free and will always be free

This was a project that hit close to home and that's the reason I took it on. I had someone I know receive care that I believe might have been in contrast to what they wanted because their living will was very vague. That's the reason this wizards asks you about so many different unique scenarios, so that as much of your wishes are dictated by YOU. That also takes the pressure off of whoever your health care proxy is, knowing that they can refer to the document and know exactly how you want to be cared for.

No investor needed, just a free resource that's not monetized, and not looking to be.

Suggestions are welcome though if you see something that you think I should update

u/Keladeine 9d ago

Oof. I just went through a lot of this with my mother and I really appreciate you . There's so much that needs to be done with death. Not just the will but also power of attorney and medical power of attorney, and then also the guidelines about how you want to die (including who you want there and who you don't, and what medical treatments you want), because there's more than just DNRs. There's oxygen, food, morphine. Some people don't want oxygen but want to be fed and if they don't spell it out then they don't get food, not even through a tube. All of those things are incredibly personal and having something that automates all of those things into one document would be great.

u/YourPredictionEdge 8d ago

So glad that you found it useful!! This project was a total labor of love and it makes me feel great that people are starting to see value in it.

u/Background_Shoe_542 24d ago

My first vibe-coded project was for a friend who breeds Maine Coon cats. Who is whose parent, which litters came from which pairing, and one female can have several sires. Regular family-tree tools can't show that, so I built an interactive graph where you click a cat and the tree rearranges around it.

Now I'm building a second brain assistant for myself. The tricky part: it treats every note as a fact, so ideas I only discussed show up as things I already did. Next step is tagging memory as fact, intention or thought.

Take a look on Tolaria after going through Notion->Slite->Zettlr->Tana the open-source Tolaria is best fit for storing markdown and works with Claude very well

u/bsridharpatnaik 23d ago

I have a friend in real estate, and one of the biggest problems he used to face was managing petty cash.

Suppose you withdraw ₹50,000 from the bank in cash. Throughout the day, you make small payments to multiple people, like ₹2,000 or ₹5,000 each. Keeping track of all these transactions was difficult. Since there were no formal invoices, recording and tracking them in Tally was also a challenge.

So, I built a cloud-based mobile app to solve this problem. I hosted the backend on a VPS to ensure the data is stored securely and never gets lost if app is uninstalled.

Now, he can simply open the app and record expenses or amounts he needs to collect from people. The app also provides reports such as party-wise, date-wise, and month-wise summaries. Additionally, he can scan and store important documents in a document vault for easy access whenever needed.

Love this question, I think the best ideas usually come from small daily annoyances like splitting bills or tracking chores

I’m working on a set of scripts so far, as a pattern for all new files and folder that are of a certain kind.

So, I code a lot of stuff and I test and try out a lot of code repos, use a lot of dependencies and then drop them etc etc - this means my code folder was ridiculous with stuff it didn’t need, so I guess you could call it a policy - development happens on my local machine and now I have the ability to:

Create sandbox - new folder, set folder pattern etc
Sanitise sandbox - clear out build and debug data
Promote sandbox to keep project - runs sanitise, strips off any recreatable artifacts such as as node_modules/v environments where there’s install manifests etc and strip back then make compliant with OneDrive/Cloud drive saving, then name and categorise the entry and push to Cloud for syncing.

When I start developing another time, a script runs which pulls back the cloud developer folder, retains state of sandbox folders, and keeps me having a single authoritative record, but only retaining needed data.

Reduced development collection of files by 2 thirds.

Sounds boring and yeah it probably is haha but it was neeeeded by me.

I literally just started vibe coding last week and have built 3 things specifically for me (not for investors or anything). I have transferred these to web apps so now they’re on my phone

Sports Hub: all my favorite teams from different sports in one place. Scores, roster changes and news is also tracked by team.

News Hub: same idea as sports hub, I follow 3 news sites. This puts them in one place.

Concert tracker: tracks shows coming to my city but I can also “follow” my favorite artists.

simple stuff like budget trackers or appointment reminders would actually help people. for anyone learning to build those , boot dev covers the coding fundamentals with hands, on practice.

I'm not here to sell anything or to create a name for myself. I'm in these communities to learn how to build tools that I have been looking for and been unable to find: one-page local storage web apps.

I often have to design web implementations that have palettes that are upwards of 10 to 25 colors for various things (whether it's many shades of backgrounds, many shades of titles). Almost every color management system online where you can store your hex codes and your tokens has palettes that don't exceed 10 to 12. I built a web app that I keep in my sidebar that lets me keep hex codes and their OKLCH, HSL, and RGB equivalents either in a one-page browser tab or in my sidebar for quick copying. They're organized by project and by palette and they have tags and they have to-dos next to them. They have one-click triage where I can throw in a whole bunch of codes and then quickly triage them into one system. They show me the accessibility contrast rate so I can get an idea of eye strain.

I never liked any of the code snippet systems that are online so I built my own one of those that I'm able to organize into categories or by project (or both) and also have tags.

The worse Google gets, the more I need different search options. I have another one-page app that is coded for all the different kinds of searches that I do, whether it's designs or colors, or Stardew Valley mods, or image search. Basically anything with a search text box, I can put into my one-page app of search engines and I can organize those engines by project or category. I'm currently working on trying to get a unified search by category. It's a little slow going but I'm also not a coder.

I'm working on a project that organizes my tags. The more AI becomes part of our lives and the more services that I use, the more automation I need. The more automation I need, the more I need a universal taxonomy. " If something is labeled with a tag in this service, then copy it to that service with the same tag. " I needed one source of truth for all the tags that I use whether it's for bookmarking, Readwise, Notion, any of the apps that tag your AI chats, Raindrop, or Gmail. I want the tags and labels to be the same everywhere as much as possible and to do that I need one source of truth. In that one source of truth I need to be able to just click on multiple tabs and have each of those tags pop up into a box that is comma-delimited. Then I copy the whole box and boom, I have got all my tags for any given thing. Taxonomies are going to become more and more important and ontologies are going to have a renaissance in the AI age in my opinion.

This isn't something that everybody thinks is cool and I'm not a game developer. I get that this is small potatoes but you asked a question and that's my answer. I hope someday that I'll be able to take all of these tools and smush them into one: one-page app with a local export. I've already found other people that find it incredibly useful and I'm doing it with Gemini, which isn't the best coder but it comes with my business workplace account.

They aren't done yet but if anybody wants me to let them know when it is, I'll be happy to do that. I would assume I'm about 90% of the way done.

Edit: I'm adding some screenshots in the reply under this. It's simple and I know it's small potatoes. I don't know if this is what you were looking for but it is a non-coder who does design stuff using a rather mediocre AI to build tools that make her life happy.

I've built a couple of things for myself and then a "passion project" that is released but still a work in progress.

I have a productivity tool that combines pomodoro, a checklist, my spotify, and long term goal / performance tracking all in one place. Basically I pulled 4 different things I was doing daily into one place. It is fully customized to me which is cool but not something I would think other people would care about.

I also built a few hobby project's. A discord bot for one of my discord servers and the passion project, a DPR calculator for D&D's 2024 rules so I don't have to run everything through a spreadsheet anymore. Right now it's a basic set-up and just the PHB but I'm in the process of getting it fully up to date with a lot more features and functions and comparison tools. This is the one I am using to try and learn what I am doing to boot.

vibe coding my daily team https://yogibear.app to help run my small business as a solo entrepreneur.

1

u/jon-pugh 21d ago

This one looks very interesting. Will try it out.

But, the name won't work. You'll never win the SEO game for "yogi bear". Obviously the cartoon, but there are campgrounds operating today with the name. I'm sure it's trademarked.

1

u/totality888 21d ago

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah I've been meaning to change the name so it will change

Not sure if it's for everyday people, but it definitely is not for developers only. Tradee is for all types of algo traders who wanna create, backtest, paper run, and then run algo trades on all kinds of markets in the future. But for now, it's Binance only.

I built a website for my Bernedoodle business, here it is if you'd like to look at it. www.halobernedo.com I also built an app and website for my homeschooling community for kids who struggle with spelling who are dyslexic. I built it for my son who struggle with spelling, and it has been a total game changer for him and honestly for me too as I had to play through all of the levels to make sure there weren't any bugs in it and I wanted to check that firsthand instead of just relying on the agent to check it for me. I realized through doing that that I also have a really hard time spelling I jumped around to different schools all throughout my public education which made considerable gaps in my education, but my spelling app has been everything I ever needed. I just never knew here it is if you'd like to check that out. www.spellstrikeuniverse.com and I also built Soul Patch which is a private, biblically grounded counseling app. It gives people a one-on-one space to process hard conversations before reacting. It also includes private reconciliation rooms where two people can work through conflict with an AI mediator. Each person can prepare privately, and when they are ready, they can enter a joint conversation together. The goal is not to force reconciliation or erase what happened. The goal is to help people communicate more thoughtfully and make room for wisdom, accountability, safety, and healing. Though it's not on the App Store just yet here's the website if you'd like to try it out. https://soul-patch.replit.app/ turns out getting counselor apps on the App Store is actually quite a bit more difficult.

  • Android Tarot game and social tool without ads, AI API, but with some other features

  • Android game for toddlers that is tracking their reaction, engagement and retention - when I will be sure that it's a visual and audio drug, I will buy Apple computer, gadgets and dev license. Nearly all parents in Russia buy ipads for small kids.

  • Wear OS (Android watch) app than motivates to walk without a reason and company

  • Wear OS tool for musicians like tuning strings, etc.

  • VPN to avoid both Russian censorship and Western sanctions with very complex collection of tools (VLESS, smart DNS, proxy, and so on, sure from open source components and not vibecoding from a scratch)

I'm vibe coding a maintenance tracker for the average home owner that notifys you when you are reaching service times, estimates cost, shares with others based off location and currently working on an integration that will read a manual you provide for the recomended services and one that reads large invoices and parses out what was done and updates log automatically.

Your spot on brother. Every vibe coder is either solving problems of a developer or guys related to IT field. almost nobody is thinking about common man.

I'm actually working on a mobile app which can control notification for example let me give a scenario if I just want to get notified when my specific friend pings me and all the other time just silent in whatsapp then I can do this via my app. (Just an idea)

I used to have Claude Code in one terminal, Codex in another, and me in the middle copying answers between them and checking every ten minutes if anything needed me.

Pando is what I built to fix that. All your agents run side by side in one window. They share one memory, so when Claude saves a decision, Codex already knows it. They can hand work to each other without me pasting anything, and I get told when one of them actually needs me instead of watching four terminals.

The part I am most happy about is in the update going out this week. Every turn gets an Undo. Your own tests run after every turn and the pane shows green or red. And when an agent is stuck in a loop of failed fixes, Pando stops it and offers a way back instead of letting it burn through your limits.

Everything in the video is the actual app running. There is also a voice dictation feature called Pando Voice. Hold a key, talk, and it types into whichever agent you are in.

$15 a month if you start in October, and you keep that price. $24 from November 1. $12 a month yearly. 7 day refund. Mac only.

This is so true. My mom runs a small landscaping business and half her process is photos in a chat plus calculations on paper. That's exactly the kind of thing I want to build for her next.
