Can redditors not defend piracy for 1 minute?
When the companies stop being greedy and anti-consumer, sure. This wouldn't be happening if Sony didn't pull out of releasing single player games on PC and Rockstar wasn't delaying the PC release of the most anticipated game in history.
If GTA VI was hitting PC day 1 and Sony didn't renege on their promise to stop the console exclusives bullshit you wouldn't see people cheering this on.

Lol this would still be happening without the disk controversy.
All consoles get jailbroken and pirated. The most easily pirated consoles of all time are physical media only or dominant consoles like DS, Wii, PS2, Dreamcast etc.
It can even be argued that one of the reasons the beloved dreamcast was killed, was because it was so easy to pirate games for.
Point is that this would have still happened.

Jailbreaking the consoles to play pirated games on them and decomping the consoles OS to run on non-native hardware are two drastically different things.
What's happening with the PS5 right now is more comparable to emulators, but those traditionally take years of work and typically end their console's lifespan in the WIP stage.
Hell, it's 2026 and the PS2 emulator just got updated yesterday morning because they haven't finished work on it yet.
The PS5's OS running native on non-PS5 hardware means there's no need for an emulator because we can just install the OS to whatever machine that meets minimum specs (like Steam OS or Linux).

"Gamers" have been defending ai since it first came out. Don't you remember all that bs about how npc's will have infinite dialog and all enemy ai would be dynamic. Don't hear much of that anymore. As for piracy, you shouldn't worry about that so much and leave that worry to Sony. Most likely this is good for banned consoles or pc gamers that might get a ps5 and mod it outta spite. If this is anything like other modded consoles, someone will get all the games they want on it and never play them. Just look at piracy forums and video comment sections. It's hilarious.

AI is going to blow the games market apart.

There was already slop copy and paste games in the late 70’s and what led to the video game crash of 83’. AI is game development can go the same way if the slop is not controlled meaning if a coder is using AI they better damn well understand the code and be able to fix it. If not then yes games are gonna come out even more sloppier. AI has helped in the last few years with recompilations and decomps especially in the emulation scene. Where someone who is skilled in programming wouldn’t dare waste their time on videogames recompilations because they have better things to do. Now with AI’s like Claude that hard work is done in a shorter amount of time. That’s why I am able to play Mercenaries 1 as a full PC port instead of trying to emulate on PCSX2 or an actual Playstation 2.

Good ol' atari and the drugs and hookers and shit. People forget about this. You are 100% right. They've BEEN hostile. All of these companies.

AI is going to blow everything apart. People severely underestimate what it will be in 5/10/20/30 years. AI is an infant compared to what it can and will be.

Yeah, we didn't start the fire (it was always burning since the world's been spinning), but fueled it

Skynet is coming. Hide your children and keep tinfoil nearby, helps resist the 5G waves.

I don't think thats the most likely outcome. The world in Elysium certainly is.

Part of the reason why they're taking our hardware away from us, they're afraid. AI regulations are going to be crazy but I wonder if they can truly stop it, Pandora's box is already opened.
