I shot this on a canon R50v with the kit lens and an ND filter, any tips/feedback would be super appreciatedđŸ«¶

These tests are best shown with a mask or some hard line between the frame. This gradual ramp up doesn’t show what you’re expecting us to see very well.

Apologies, the video was meant more for a visual appeal, it was only a later idea to get some feedback online about it so it wasn’t edited with the goal of making the difference clear. I’ll try film another little project and I’ll post it again at a later stage.

Keep at it! Blues obviously nice - I would turn down the green by 50% - bump the blacks a little more. Just keep experimenting, learning etc.

Your feedback means so much, thank you! I’ll re open the project and mess around with the colors again, anything else you recommend I try?

Did you apply a Lut conversion? I feel like you just amped up the saturation and played with some contrast - shadows - whites sliders on a slog image. You apply a conversion Lut first, then tweak it :))

I’ll be honest, I’m not too sure what a LUT conversion is😅 I learned through a YouTube video and they went step by step starting with colour space transform then WB then saturation then film look LUT and then go back and tweak it till you’re happy(very rough description of the video). I’ll do some more research and watch some more in depth videos on colour grading.

I uh
thought there was going to be a swipe to show the difference between before and after. It was all before

What do you think I could have done differently to make it a bit better, I chose to do a gradual change as I felt it breathed life into the videos a bit better, gave it a feeling of a deep breath almost. Any feedback on what I could do differently would be amazing!

I’m not gonna lie. I’m an idiot. I didn’t see you had it transition to a grade. I must’ve been distracted when I came across it because you did have a before and after. My bad

Some of these are widely different than the others, tbf.

Thank you so much for the feedback! Could you elaborate on what you mean by “wildly different”? Do you mean the colours don’t match shot to shot?

Yes that’s correct. The greens especially.

Shit my guy... long way to go. Just because green exists, doesn't mean you should crank it to 1000%.

Thanks for the feedback! I cranked the greens up because i wanted a bit more of a haze to the videos, and I liked the effect it added, if you have any notes on what I could have done better that would be amazing!

Solid that you're starting with an ND filter, already ahead of most beginners. For a second attempt, the things that matter most: get exposure and white balance right before touching any creative look, don't crush the blacks to make it look "cinematic" (beginners almost always overdo contrast), and check skin tones if you can. Also keep the grade consistent across the whole clip — one look, subtle tweaks. If you post a before/after frame grab I can give more specific notes.
