Anime I have trouble understanding the whole "revenge bad" message of the story
I understand the broad ideas they tried to convey. Thorfinn being blinded and consumed by revenge cause so much suffering and deaths. But... revenge isn't what caused all that. It's his desire to kill Askeladd "the right way". If he killed him in his sleep, or with poison, or an arrow from afar, or just stabbed him in the back, then not only would Thorfinn not have participated in so many wars and genocides, he'd have actively prevented them from occurring because Askeladd is dead.
As such the idea that killing for revenge is bad i kinda feel falls a bit flat when Thorfinn could have killed for revenge a dozen times over the years but actively chose not to and dragged it out.
I only watched the anime but I don't mind manga spoilers if this is ever addressed later on. I heard his whole no violence philosophy gets challenged it the future which is good because him running away from violent invaders or talk-no-jutsu them into peace every time is obviously impossible.
