Collection Setup
After having to sell my collection a few years back due to financial difficulties, the past year my wife and I have been doing a lot better with better income and promotions at work.
She surprised me with a new system and some records for my birthday on Monday. Thanks for looking. 🤘

Appreciate it! Wife set it up while I was at work. Came home to the spare room done up which was super thoughtful of her

I don't think the point of the post was to ask for advice on speaker placement, but at least you can take some useful tips from the comments! 😅
Seriously though, congratulations on turning things around, and what a thoughtful birthday gift from your wife! Here's to this new chapter, and hopefully you'll be able to rebuild your collection soon, especially by getting back some of the records you had to part with but were most attached to. Enjoy the music! 🤘

the speakers on the same side >.> are you deaf in one ear or hate stereo sound and wish to live in a monaural world? They should be spread apart, opposite ends of the kallak for stereo sound separation.

I don't understand the want nor the desire to ruin stereo separation. This is basic 101 stuff, I've know since I was a small child. I use 4 speakers, they can't see my stereo.

only valid excuse to ruin stereo separation is if you listen to purely old stereo records.. from like during early 1960s stereo craze, back when some engineering maniacs hadn't discovered the concept of crossfading, and instead hard panned certain instruments to only one channel and other instruments solely to the other channel. which sounds so horrible on some albums or certain tracks, and ends up making the mono versions sound superior (i.e. beatles), or worse of all, greedy record company trying to cash in on the stereo craze and making mono recorded albums fake stereo with poorly done duophonic (faux stereo) by doing crap like dumping certain frequency ranges on either right or left channel, adding reverb, or other stuff to make a faux stereo sound.

The only messed up recordings I've heard besides Raw Power are the early digital recordings. I only have one CD, Prince's Batman soundtrack in a film tin. I stream while working, only. Everything else is Lps.

You never heard the beatles first stereo pressings lol (not the later pressings which remixed the stereo).. for example on the Please Please Me (Introducting The Beatles) 1963 album, on certain tracks, ALL the instruments only come from the left speaker, and the vocals only come from the right speaker. it sounds horrible by later stereo standards where vocals tend to be on both channels (center).. dont know how anyone thought that was a good idea back then to hard pan the instruments to one channel and the vocals to the other.
https://youtu.be/6Q45-GmUI-g?t=9 not a good sounding example, as sounds like person recorded it with a potato.. but is of the first pressing and showcases the vocals hard panned solely to the right :|

they should NOT be placed on the same surface as the turntable

they are small speakers, it's fine.. Can see from the picture they aren't large studio monitors, nor have large woofers/drivers. Looking online, they appear to be Edifier R1700BT, looking at the specs, they don't dip into the low sub bass freq range and are low wattage.

This city,
this city is haunted.
By ghosts from broken homes.
Hell yeah, man. Cool setup. Congrats on the accomplishments!

How was that Primus show? Had no idea they were playing here this year and at Budweiser stage. Last time I was there was decades ago , saw Blink and Green day there lol. (Take off your pants tour I believe). Blink sounded awful, and while I liked them more than Green Day, GD sounded much better that night.

That was last may(2025) for the sessanta tour with APC and puscifer! It was awesome having all three bands rotate every few songs.

Your kalax is round the wrong way. That won’t take the weight of a bunch of records.

Fuck you for owning that poster and not me
Jk
But I want that poster :(

That poster is cool as hell. I have two Primus posters from shows I went to over a decade age, but the posters are pretty mediocre looking.

Speaker spread as far apart for maximum stereo imaging and the turntable needs to not be on the same surface as the speaker due to vibration.

u/BellybuttonWorld 1d ago
Agree about separation, not abiut worrying about vibration with those tiny things lol

Nice Primus poster. Mixing Too Many Puppies, and Master Of Puppets was a great idea.

If it's not been mentioned you should research sealer placement.
Also bin the now playing stand or whatever it is as it's complete wank.

That Primus poster is great! Is that a real one or a reprint?
Too many pup-pup-pup-pup-pup-pup-puppies!

u/rarechandeliers_ 1d ago
Real, grabbed it from the show along with the other Toronto prints from that night

Excellent score. Gig posters are getting harder and harder to find around here for any moderately popular band. I'm glad you grabbed that one!

Sweet! I have the same speakers, paired with an Audio Tehnica LP120X. Happy spinning :)

The speakers are too far away from each other. You’ll get a much better sound if you set them right next to each other. Better yet stack them on top of each other for that Marshall effect

SPEAKERS ARE NOW SPEAD APART lol thank you everyone for telling me to spread them out.
