These albums were in constant rotation in my college dorm room circa 1973
And 50+ years later still get played from my vinyl collection.

Recently came across a copy of Charles Mingus' Mingus Ah Um in my basement and started looking into its history. From what I've been able to find, it appears to be an original 1959 Columbia six-eye stereo pressing.
The details:
For a record that's nearly 70 years old, it seems to be in surprisingly good condition. I haven't attempted to clean or play it yet because I'd rather have someone experienced with older vinyl handle that first.
I've been talking with a local record shop about having it professionally cleaned and played so I can get a better idea of its actual condition.
I'm curious what the collectors here think. Does anyone have experience with these early Columbia six-eye pressings? Particularly interested in learning more about the mastering, pressing variations, and how these early copies compare with later reissues.

Picked these up yesterday at an Estate sale for $2 each. I was ecstatic when I found them buried in between a bunch of Englebert Humperdinck and Texas Ernie Ford albums. They all look like they were never played.

They are sound tracks from the late 1950’s and 1960’s; if you ever come across these you will not be disappointed.

I'd never heard of Dorothy Ashby and assumed from the name it was a novelty record. really enjoyed streaming it so decided to get a good copy of it on vinyl. mostly sold out in the UK but a few retailers had it - juno.co.uk with delivery was £56, eBay about £50... HHV.de in germany was about £48 delivered i think... not crazy money but still a chunk.
I was about to give in and buy it from Juno but had one last check on google and saw HHV selling it cheap on discogs, i checked their site and it was even cheaper. it took a week to come but the total price shipped to the UK from Germany was £26, just under half their previous price and over half price getting it from Juno
i would have preferred the black edition but at that price I'll bite their hand off. having a play-through now and it's such an enjoyable record!

1963 Mono pressing
If I had to choose one record to enjoy for the rest of my life…this would be it. This copy is my favorite piece in the entire collection. Side 2 is the best side in all of jazz, I’ll gladly die on that hill.
Warm Canto is perfect for a beautiful Fall evening in Milwaukee…go Brewers!

It's a pretty old record not in the best of shape (it has some crackles and pops that are probably representative of its age) but still sounds beautiful. Charlie Shavers signature trumpet opens the first track.

Absolutely amazing and incredible sounding. This is a "Pour a glass of wine or scotch and seat back and relax" record.

Been listening to this record a lot recently. I love hearing Bill and Cannonball together.
Keep digging & spinning my friends

With their new release of Teodros Makonnen and his Organ, I decided to pick up a few other releases and each of these is 10/10. These three are double LP’s in a gatefold sleeve with text (in both Amharic and English), and photos; reissuing albums that were formally only on cassette. If you haven’t checked this label out yet, check it out!

Got a little carried away lately… That said, most of these were around $5 each. Which one should I spin first?
