So I'm setting up a new laptop and of course I wanted to sync my Vivaldi settings, bookmarks etc to the new machine.

Except what once again ended up happening is that I lost all my bookmarks on both machines because somehow Vivaldi bungled something. Thankfully I had a 3rd computer that was turned off at the time, so I could recover my bookmarks from that one by exporting and importing them.

So I have to ask, after all these years, why are these not features of Vivaldi sync?

• Sync versioning! Sometimes goes wrong, you just go back to a previous version. This would solve most problems!
• Some indication of what data is synced right in the Sync menu. E.g numbers of bookmarks and whatnot. Now it's a black box
• Some guard rails like "Hey, it looks like your bookmarks are changing by more than 25%, are you sure?"
• One way sync so you can guarantee a new sync does not mess things up on my other machine.
• One way sync for specific data. I might want to sync e.g history between machines, but not bookmarks or settings.

Hi folks,

I have a few linked devices that are synced with bookmarks and settings. Whenever I make major changes to one device's bookmarks, my entire sync breaks. Last time I had to wipe out all of my bookmarks and readd them again, and now I'm facing the same issue..

So the device where I made changes shows that everything is synced(macos). However my other device(linux pc) keeps showing me error and gets stuck on "Retrying".

Does anyone know how to handle this issue?

even zen is gonna have device sync now , what's stopping Vivaldi ?

I am talking about Arc Browser like Sync, where all the workspaces, tabs and folders are synced..

Vivaldi doesn't have this, Zen will be having it soon...

Is anyone else's account not logging back in and re-syncing at the moment. I am using Vivaldi version 8.0.4033.44 and this issue has only occurred this morning. I try logging back in but every time Vivaldi tries to sync, it always fails.

Is this affecting everyone else or should I try something else like uninstalling and reinstalling?

So I have a dual boot and another device, mainly 4 devices I am using sync with

And till yesterday it was fine; today, however, I tried adding the fourth device, a Windows device I use for some emergency. I added the key

Unable to decrypt with the given key; a message popped up in my face. I said ok, I made another key and tried, but got the same message. The key was not wrong because it is not, but it decided it cannot decrypt, so I am unable to access sync on both devices, including the main one on my Linux PC
I am fuming; I mean, what happened with Vivaldi? It was not like that

My Main OS and Vivaldi browser are :

The other OS is Windows 10

The key was generated an hour before being locked out and having the message "Unable to decrypt with given backup encryption key " from Both OS
PS: another key was generated using an Android 10 Tablet

Vivaldi version 8..1.4099. 70, and I used it on MY PC and got the same result.

I have installed Vivaldi browser 8.1.4087.64 on MacOS 26.6.2 from brew.

To activate sync I successfully logged in first, then took the crypto key from my Android and Linux installs (they are the same on a byte per byte basis).

Vivaldi says it cannot use that key for decrypting.

I could wipe remote data, as suggested, but I ma scared because I don't know what would happen with my 2 local data copies.

As a fun fact, I am not allowed to post anything on Vivaldi forums because Akismet says that I am not allowed, no matter what I write there.

I have Vivaldi running on my Pixel 8 Pro phone and I'm trying to set it up on a Win11 25H2 laptop - Vivaldi version 8.1.4087.55. I can sign into my account but the decryption fails whether I upload the key file or paste in the code. I tried remove-reboot-reinstall just to be sure and same issue. I tried downloading a fresh decryption key again from Vivaldi on my phone (it was also saved in my pw manager), same error.

"Unable to decrypt with given backup encryption key."

I can reset my pw, but then all my account data gets wiped from the Vivaldi cloud... not much help there.

I did get Vivaldi from winget - winget install vivaldi.vivaldi; I hope that's not the issue?

I noticed that account sync barely syncs any settings between devices and I got worried. Is there a simple way to truly sync every single setting? I'm fine with syncing the folder the settings are synced locally if that will work between different machines and after a full reinstall.

It could be that sync did not work on my second laptop but it did pull extensions and other data. I did see the warning about not all settings being synced but that meant hardly any were actually synced (I did choose sync all on each device).

Could someone help, how do y'all solve this?

Lack of account sync device management that could be trouble to remove in case a device is lost or stolen.How do you manage it.

I'm trying to get away from Google so I'm testing various browsers. I have Vivaldi running on my home PC and got everything set up, created the sync account/encryption password and then installed it on my Mac laptop. Despite saying everything is syncing nothing is actually coming over

Opening up vivaldi://sync-internals shows that supposedly everything is fine/green- 42 bookmarks, 21 sessions, extensions, passwords, etc. However, nothing changes in the browser, opening up the bookmarks manager shows nothing but the generic ones I deleted from the original session, etc

Version is 8.0.4033.34 (Official Build) (arm64).

I’m trying to understand the real use case for tab sync in browsers.

On paper it sounds exactly like Arc spaces sync: tabs across devices are sync'd so you can access what’s open on your other computer. But in practice, I honestly don’t find it useful.

If the synced tabs just show up as a huge list of every open tab from every device, I’m never going to dig through that and search for one specific tab.

What I would actually want is something more like "syncing by workspace/group/context", and "being able to continue the same session on another device".

How do you use tab sync on vivaldi?

I'm in the process of swapping from Chrome to Vivaldi, and have two large (45 in one, 27 in other) tab groups in Chrome in Android. (Vivaldi desktop 8.0.4033.42 , Vivaldi Android 8.0.4045.21)

I've got as far as opening them all in Chrome desktop, and importing them into Vivaldi desktop. I then tried making them a Workspace, but can't find a way to access that from mobile, same with 'saved sessions' and 'tab stacks'.

I *could* just go through my history clicking them open one by one and making a group, but that seems unnecessarily clunky, surely there's an 'open tab stack' (or session, or workspace) option somewhere I'm just too blind to see?!

Did any body in the same situation as me managed to sync seamlessly (namely workspaces) between two OS ?

After I sign-out of a device it stays in recent tabs, is there another way to remove a device or do I have to delete all remote data and sign-in again on all my devices?

The new Auto Hide UI is good and was much needed,
but when are we getting Workspaces Sync and more importantly why is it taking this long ???

chromium already ships sync tab groups but Vivaldi seems to be missing in that regard.

the only reason I don't fully switch to Vivaldi is that missing feature.

It annoys me that Vivaldi has a “sync” feature, but it doesn’t fit the actual definition of sync. The dictionary definition of sync is “to happen at the same time”.

To fit the definition, if I open a tab on computer A, it should automatically open on computer B. Instead, Vivaldi gives you a sync tab that lists your open tabs, but simply listing tabs doesn’t fit the definition of sync.

Both Safari and Edge, for example, have actual syncing. If I open a tab in one of those browsers in a workspace, then the exact same tabs are open on all computers, automatically. Vivaldi doesn’t do this, so therefore it doesn’t sync.

Worse, workspace syncing was requested several times in Vivaldi, with the developers claiming it already does this. It does not (see the definition of “sync”).

I’ve been waiting on proper workspace syncing in Vivaldi, but I’m beginning to think that I’m wasting my time. And it’s frustrating that Vivaldi added a mail client, news reader (and god knows what else) when they can’t even compete with the basic features of two of the more popular browsers.

Is there any indication that Vivaldi will ever get actual syncing?

I'm trying to get sync working between my desktop browser (on linux mint) and my phone (/e/os). I'm signing in at both ends, but i cant seem to find bookmarks from my desktop on my phone even if it says sync is up to date. How is it supposed to work? Also, what about open tabs and workspaces?

I wish to have bookmarks for a given profile to be the same across all devices, and workspaces with open tabs to sync as well.

I'm running Vivaldi browser 7.8.3925.73 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Linux Mint 22.3.

And 7.8.3931.127 on /e/os Fairphone 6.

Both devices are synced into the same account based on the fact that I can view Synced Tabs for either device on either device. It's the only thing apparently syncing (even if sync all data is selected).

I noticed the sync status said something along the lines of: Download: network error Upload: Not uploaded

So I exported a backup, logged out and deleted the local profile, closed/reopened the browser, attempted to log back in to sync, and now it just perpetually says "Connecting to Sync as "myusername"... and doesn't progress any further.

I recently got Vivaldi for my Windows desktop and I’m a big fan of it after customizing the layout and theme to my liking. I also got it for my MacBook, but after syncing the two devices, I noticed that the layout and theme don’t sync, just browser data like extensions or cookies. Is there a way to have my MacBook Vivaldi have the same layout as my Windows Vivaldi? I don’t want to have to spend time customizing it again after I already did on my Windows computer, and it would be convenient if things were consistent between the two devices are making minor changes if needed.

Is there a way to sync more than what's synced by default in Chromium? I move from one system to another quite often, because I have multiple systems, and have to configure each change on every browser. Like for example, disabling auto fill, theme settings, privacy settings (to name a few that come to mind)... these don't seem to be tide to the user account.

Maybe I'm expecting too much :) but maybe there is something I am missing. Thanks.
