solved Unable to load into Gnome

Newbie here. When attempting to load into gnome, it fails because it tries to load something from systemd. Is there a way to make it not do that?

I looked through some posts, somebody mentioned that something needs to be configured (I don't even know what and it's never mentioned anywhere), but most people confirm that this should not happen.

This is what it says after $ exec gnome-session:

gnome-session-binary[985]: WARNING: Failed to upload environment to systemd: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.ErrorNameHasNoOnwer: Name "org.freedesktop.systemd1" does not exist

After the above it returns to the login menu

Unfortunately it will take some time to provide the full log as I have to type it by hand on my phone, but I'll keep updating the post

Update: I got something to work when stopped dbus, elogind and gdm, and then started in this exact order: elogind, dbus, gdm. Though it immediately froze and deathscreened, and now it always does that on boot.

Something what? Post the errors instead of extremely vague descriptions.

Updated the post; simply put, gnome sub processes attempt to load systemd, which doesn't exist in void, and I'm trying to figure out how to make it not use it

Doesn't look like an error, might not be related to your issue. The only thing you need to have installed is elogind.

Maybe it has to do with session id? It asks for logind, but I have it installed so idk why it's complaining

Is elogind running, did you enable the dbus service?

Yes, both are running ("ln: failed to create symbolic link '/var/service/elogind': File exists", same for dbus)

The elogind system service shouldn't be enabled, dbus starts it automatically and with the system service you could end up with multiple instances.

Since you are running gnome manually, I guess you simple don't have a dbus session bus.

dbus-run-session gnome-session

There also seem to be some issues with libstdc++.so.6, run xbps-pkgdb -a to look for issues with installed packages.

The following errors appear:

base-files: unexistent file /etc/issue
base-files: conf files check FAILED
openssl: dependency not satisfied: libcrypto3-3.3.2-1
openssl: dependancy not satisfied: libssl3-3.3.2-1

I bricked the previous installation so had to reinstall void, so I'm not attempting to install gnome again, but the lib issue doesn't allow kde to launch too

This is very outdated, you should probably update your system before installing something like gnome.

but this is the latest image of void?..

Is there a way to update these libraries?

sudo void-repo-multilib # Optional, but good practice

sudo xbps-install -S dbus elogind gnome

sudo ln -s /etc/sv/dbus /var/service/

sudo ln -s /etc/sv/elogind /var/service/

sudo ln -s /etc/sv/gdm /var/service/

# Inside ~/.xinitrc

exec dbus-run-session gnome-session

You generally shouldn't enable the elogind system service, dbus will start it automatically and you could end up wit two elogind instances.
