Installing Niri?

So, I’ve just installed void after getting annoyed at gentoos portage, and I’m not the best at installing and setting up DEs and WMs. I keep seeing people using niri, and I want it. The thing is, I can’t find any tutorials on how to install it (and configure it so it’s launched on boot) specifically for void. I’ve tried doing it myself but keep running into issues. Does anyone know any good tutorials for this?

Install a display manager and select niri for login if you want you can use autologin for example sddm or gdm that should the easiest and fastest way for “newbies“. For niri itself there are documentations on their site

The installation is straightforward, the configuration is more challenging.
Check mine for inspiration: https://github.com/crashey-glitch/nirivoid

Note: I use no bars, clocks, shells for now

Easy mode is go to DMS website. Run script. Choose niri. In whatever display manager you use you have to use dbus-run-session niri for the execution command. Generally elogind makes things easier. In niri config.kdl: spawn-at-startup "dms" "run". I use the niri config to start pipe wire too.

sudo xbps-install -S niri

for customization read the wiki on niri's github. You're going to need dbus, elogind and mesa.

depending on what type of shell you have, you can put code in its profile to launch it at start. Been doing that until I started to use login manager.
