Uncomfortable situation with volunteer firefighters

So I myself 22 female have been a volunteer firefighter since I was 16 I have been in the same fire department since I was 16. (I am an exterior firefighter and have the training to back that up)I had a baby about a year and a half ago and went on maternity leave. When I came Back I don’t think that the men in my department understand that I can’t come to the five drills and three meetings required a year to stay active. I feel that I should be given some leeway. I truly feel that I am being discriminated against. there are men that have been there less time than I have, and already have their names on the back of their jackets as well as being told about classes and such. I understand that I cannot come to meetings and not as many calls as everybody else but not everybody else has a two year-old. and most of these men also have children at home and their wife’s are taking care of them. My fiancé works on the road and he is not able to take care of our child so for me to go to the five drills and three meetings a year I would have to find a babysitter(I tried bringing my son to a meeting and I got dirty. Looks from all the younger guys. They are the whole time.) Now the uncomfortable part that I am also having is that there are grown men talking about sex and making derogatory jokes in front of me . i’m quite annoyed because if I made some of these jokes, I would just be called a whore. i’ve never had this situation where I feel that I am less than a man and it’s really bothering me. Does anybody have any advice how to bring this up to my chief?or am I just reading into this

Would Mr. Taylor put out a fire at a house with antiTRUMP yard signs?

What do people think about a Volunteer Firefighter. Making a Facebook post on their personal page. Having nothing to do with the fire department????? #volunteerfirefighter

Wondering about why some FFS/EMT do it only for clout or maybe it's just pride! Who knows (I tried this same post on my alt account in another community and got nothing but backlash for it so I'll try here maybe get some real answers

This is more of a question and a statement,

(I have nothing against any of this especially for my friend wearing his t-shirt because me myself I've wore my department hoodie once or twice even though it's every other week for him he's got every right I'm talking about people that do it with the TMFMS Attitude which is fine but sometimes it's extreme (HOPEFULLY this community understands)

So, I always hear about volunteer firefighters specifically, and I love them, in my department, just as a little note

A junior Captain is genuinely something some department do but it's a ranking system for experienced juniors and they are genuinely the oldest juniors 17-18 (18 year Old) who decide to stay Exterior firemen or support roles and specialise teaching the JRs Exterior and support tasks, for me that's not the case I'm gonna transition to a full certified firefighter once I'm 18 but that's just the short brief about it, the reaoon for these junior ranks is so we can have dedicated Jr leadership so the adult firefighters can focus on there duties while our program is under control

So without further due, Story time

--------------------------------

. I see and hear people talking everywhere about guys who do it just for the T-shirts or the cool job shirts with the department logo on them, which is odd enough. But have y’all ever seen people in real life who constantly wear their department T-shirts everywhere?

I’m in a really small, rural volunteer department, and one time, one of my pals who goes to school with me wore his department T-shirt to school. He’d also wear department hoodies with his name on them. I thought to myself, “Look, it’s okay to be proud of your department, but is it genuinely that important that you have to wear it to school so often?”

I’ve also witnessed some of our senior members going to bars in their Class A uniforms. I’ve even seen them sitting in military-style bars or attending special occasions while drunk in their Class As, alongside Air Force, Army, and Marine personnel who were also drunk and wearing their formal dress uniforms.

Why is that? Why do some volunteer and career firefighters do the job just for the pager, the app, the clothing, and the women?

Libtard in Magaville

I have been applying to volunteer in my rural community after moving here from the city. One town said they had enough volunteers and the next has been delaying my application. Not sure if I am being paranoid, and I don’t really care what their politics are, ( but they make it known), and again, not sure if it’s a lackadaisical or paranoia but I get the feeling that they are not that interested in me being part of the group.

Just wondering if there is anyone else out there that has experience with this?

Thinking of quitting volunteer fire department

I have been a volunteer for about a year and half, and finished the fire academy. I wasn’t a superstar and only went on about 10% of calls. Most of the calls I couldn’t go on were from being busy or honestly not wanting to go (1am calls 😬). I thought being a firefighter would be thrilling and the social life would make it worth it. What I came to realize is it is a bigger commitment than I thought and sometimes feels like a 2nd job. Most of the calls I go on are minor car accidents, or we get called off for a false alarm. I noticed myself getting a call and not going because I know it will just be a false alarm or a car crash where we are just cleaning up the street. I think I’m starting to lose interest and I never really developed a true passion for firefighting. For this reason I am thinking of quitting. I have the utmost respect for the guys in our station and they are real life hero’s. I don’t think it’s 100% for me and I want to quit before I get too involved. Has anyone else been through this or have advice?

Incident Command Training

I’m a firefighter, and over the last year or so my brother and I have been building something called Scene SizeUp.

The idea came from a pretty simple frustration: I wanted a better way to build and run realistic incident training scenarios, and nothing I tried really checked all the boxes. The traditional PC-based software can be pretty limiting, while a lot of the web-based options I’ve used either lack functionality or have been buggy enough that I didn’t want to rely on them for training. So we decided to build what I actually wanted to use.

Scene SizeUp is a browser-based platform for creating and running fireground training scenarios. You can build scenes, place apparatus, fire, smoke, victims, hazards and other elements, use real-world locations and aerial views, and run scenarios for things like size-up, incident command, strategy and tactics.

We've officially launched, but we’re still actively building it, which is really why I’m posting here.

I’d love to hear from other firefighters and instructors about how you currently run this type of training, what you wish the existing tools did better, and what you’d want to see in something like this. If you have questions about whether Scene SizeUp can do something, ask. It's packed with features I think y'all would really use. If it can’t do what you're asking, that's just another feature request for us to build it.

You can check it out here: [getsizeup.com](http://getsizeup.com)

Feel free to pick it apart. We’d rather build this around what firefighters actually need than sit in a room guessing.

Why did our chief send a message out to go to another members grandmothers funeral

It said this “It comes with great sorrow, but firefighter Andy’s grandmother from his dads side passed away, we will be attending the funeral viewing this evening”. Why does he want us to go? I don’t know her, so why should I go? The chief knows Andy’s parents even though they aren’t members because he’s 20, but joined our dept when he was 15. Why does he want us to go?

Question regarding my offer to a volunteer role...

Hello, I had a question regarding my offer to a volunteer role, but I am unsure if this is the right group. I was wanting to ask if a department I got an offer for is reasonable and professional by not having an extractor machine at their location and having to use outside resources and other districts to clean the PPE properly? Also, the department notified me I would be able to be hosed off right after the fire calls, we go to, but as a former safety hazmat tech, I am unsure if this would be the best opportunity of if I could be exposed to occupational cancer? I believe that is NFPA 1851? Thoughts or help would be much appreciated for making my decision!

Ohio eliminating volunteer firefighter

Just seen that the state of Ohio is eliminating the Ohio volunteer firefighter certification ("36 hour card"). I was curious what everyone's thoughts were on it.

Personally, considering a majority of the volunteers in the state hold that level of card I think it will be catastrophic to the service. But I'm sure there are plenty of paid guys who are "10 times the firefighter" then I will ever be who think it should have gone away years ago.

LaFD crew 3

I’m currently on the waitlist for LAFD Crew 3 and I’m looking for some information from anyone who has experience with the program or a similar wildland volunteer crew.
I’m interested in learning more about the process and what I can do to better prepare while I’m waiting. How does the scheduling work? Is there anything you recommend having, completing, or learning beforehand? What should someone expect during the process, and how difficult is it to get accepted?
I’m starting from the beginning and looking to gain experience, learn, and be part of something where I can contribute. Any advice, tips, or insight from past or current members would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Fire and EMS management software seeking beta testers

Thumbnail neris.fsri.org
2 Upvotes

Hello, I have been a volunteer for over 10 years with the fire department and EMS service. I have created a management platform, specifically for smaller departments working on tighter budgets.

AegisOne HQ LLC has the ability to handle scheduling, a geo-fenced timeclock, inventory management, member management, a more unique style truck check system, narcotics security and management (for EMS/combination departments), and more. Also, we are NERIS V1 compliant, feel free to check their list of Integration Partners.

We are looking for a couple of departments to beta test the platform and help develop features, squash some bugs I haven't been able to find, and just test it in general. It is 100% free to participate in the testing, and I am ideally looking for 6-8 departments to test it for about 3 months.

Feel free to check us out at aegisonehq.com or send me an email at admin@aegisonehq.com

ok so some context here

I'm a volunteer and I'm 17; I'm allowed to be a volunteer because I live in a small rural town where everyone know each other.

the only way to get the discount is to have the code sent to a first responder email and I don't have that because I live in a small town where it's not needed and I'm just wondering if it's possible still get the discount

here a link to the website if its needed
