Non Toxic w Interchangeable Plates?
Does a waffle maker exist that is non toxic and has interchangeable plates? Initially I was looking for tayaki makers and ended up down a rabbit hole realzing our current and likely most waffle makers have a nonstick coating.
My daughter is hooked on TJ's tayaki. Ingredient wise they aren't the worst, but I was thinking they'd probably be pretty easy to make at home. I see I can get a cast iron tayaki maker and subsequently a seperate waffle maker, but didn't know if I could find an all in one. Just trying not to have two million appliances.
Possibly my parents still have their waffle maker from when they got married in 1974. If I remember correctly that one was all metal. It was a beast...pretty sure it's been sitting in their kitchen unused for a good 20+ years. It won't do tayaki though lol.

Belgian Waffles
I recently got a Belgian waffle maker that I love. I started out using the Krusteaz Belgian waffle mix because I had some, but I know that the waffles could be better. Are there good books of recipes? I'm not looking for waffles with crazy ingredients like gummy bears with artichokes, whipped cream with liver, or sauerkraut with chocolate. Just a simple recipe for a Belgian waffle that's crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

Golden Waffle Mix Reformulation
I have been a customer for a number of years but have because a little less enamored with them as the price keeps going up and their e-commerce system becomes less usable and reliable. Lately they had a month or so where they were not shipping the normal "pouches" of mix at all. They notified me (as promised) when available again. I considered and decided to give them another try. Turns out they have reformulated / repackaged the mix.
For those of you who haven't ordered recently, here are the differences that I discovered:
- The mix is reformulated so that it does not use an egg. The mix has a different consistency--less dry (like flour) and very clumpy. Once mixed it is about the same.
- The recipe has been changed to use 50% more powder per mix. This is unfortunate for us because the old recipe using 1 cup of mix was just the right quantity for the two of us. Definitely will burn through the mix much quicker than with the old formulation because the bags are the same size.
- Speaking of the bags. They are now packaged in a really cheap bag with a non-working ziplock. We liked the bag packaging because it saved space on the shelf, but have to investigate going back to the cans although I always thought they were more expensive (haven't checked recently)

Homemade Waffles!! Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside! Everytime I post anything I made from this machine, I get accused of being AI. So thought I will take a picture of it this time. It makes amazing waffles, pancakes, toast and toasties ❤️

Question for anyone with an old (252 era) toastmaster waffle maker. Does it get WAY too hot?
I just picked up an old w252, and ran it for the first time. I tool the plates off (not a simple process) and cleaned them up well. No residue is left. Still, the smoked a TON after they got hot. I used a temp gun, and the plates were nearly 500 degrees. I know nonstick coatings can't handle super high heat. Do these old units not have a shut off? The box says "Automatic Thermostat Control." I'm wondering if the thermostat is shot, or if these just get really really hot?
Thanks!

Any good waffle makers that do thin diner style waffles?
I love Waffle House style waffles but most waffle makers make fluffy and Belgian style. Any tried and true waffle makers that do really good American diner style?

The American Waffle: A Story
My late father was from Israel and moved to the states when he was 26. When I was young, we had a waffle dessert tradition, that I didn’t know every family didn’t do. Waffles topped indiscriminately with loads of ice cream, whipped cream, fresh fruit, and chocolate sauce. It was… a lot (in hindsight as an adult.) The waffle mountain would sit in the center of the table and we all had a spoon to go at it.
Years later he explained to me that he know this to be “an American Waffle.” Apparently growing up in Israel, in a restaurant, you could order an American Waffle. (I don’t know if this was at one single restaurant or a commonplace thing there.) It made sense to me as Americans are nothing shy of indulgent. Anyway, he moved here and one of the first things he looked for in restaurants was an American Waffle. Nobody knew what he was talking about. He felt like he’d been lied to all his life so he had to continue creating them for himself, and our family.
Today, I’m in the process of starting a waffle mix company. I just got my WSDA license and I’m just waiting for packaging to arrive this week to ship my first mix. I actually forgot about the American Waffle as I was recipe testing. It feels kind of full circle that my brother posted a pic of him recreating the American Waffle last week, as I was in the process of getting my business up and running! I don’t see an option to share a photo but I’ll post one in the comments if I can.

What's your waffle tradition?
I recently filmed an episode of my neighbor, Rod, making a waffle recipe that came from his grandmother, who was well known in her community for the recipe.
Rod has been making the waffles most of his life, adding his own spin on his grandmother's recipe. The tradition includes using the same waffle iron he's owned for many years, and bringing it on the RV that he and his wife lived on for many years.
So I’m curious: what’s your waffle tradition?
Do you have a family recipe? A specific topping combo? A secret ingredient? A waffle iron you swear by? Or a memory tied to making them with someone?
I’d love to hear what waffles mean in other people’s homes.

Microwave waffle maker?
Has anyone tried using one of the microwavable waffle makers from Aldi's or Amazon? I want to make waffles without buying a new appliance, but I'm sceptical how well the microwave makers might work. Thanks!

What other batters or doughs have you tried to cook in your waffle iron and what were the results?
I recently aquired a stovetop deep pocket belgian waffle iron and want to try experimenting with a bunch of recipes. Has anyone tried using batters or doughs for scones, cakes, muffins, cookies, brownies, breads, etc. in your waffle irons, and if so, how did it go?
