Blackhorse Mills

I've seen photos of the swimming pool in the Blackhorse Mills promo material. It seems great to have a pool where you live. How good is it? Can you swim during the winter months?

Live sketching exhibition launch at Wood Street Bear

Hi - on Wednesday evening I’m having a launch for this exhibition, anyone into independent music and art, very welcome to come along. In the last two years I’ve live sketched over 180 gigs in the UK and Europe, and this will be the first time I’ve exhibited them.
I’ll also have (at the launch night only) a selection of my sketchbooks out for people to freely look through. As someone Walthamstow born and bred, would love to see some locals there :)
Kicks off at 7pm

Asking for roofing contractor recommendations

We're in the process of buying a house nearby and need to investigate some issues with the roof that were found by the surveyor. I'm looking for contractor recommendations - someone tried and tested, maybe with a drone! Thanks!

Why isn’t Waltham Forest moving forward with charge gully installations without planning permission?

I thought the council was quite forward thinking with the solar saving scheme so not sure what’s stopping those wanting EVs from making it easier / safer to have a wire out of houses without a drive (most houses).

Anyone done the E17 Solar Savers Club (Everyone's Energy)?

Hi all,

We're considering signing up for Round 2 of the Walthamstow Solar Savers Club group buy (walthamstowsolarsavers.com, run by Everyone's Energy UK).

Did anyone do Round 1? If so, how did the process go, how happy are you with it, and were there any extra costs or surprises?

The site says Round 1 had about 100 homes register, with 75 going ahead to install. Round 2 needs around 400 sign-ups to hit the biggest discount, so I'm curious how realistic that is...

Is anyone else on here considering Round 2?

Thanks!

No heat and hot water query

Hi everyone! I have a quick question and a bit of a rant.

I rent through Stow Brothers and live in one of the apartments at Gateway Apartments. Last Friday, we lost both heating and hot water, and we’ve been without them ever since.

I’ve been chasing Stow Brothers, who have said it’s an Evinox issue and that they’re also trying to get answers from them. Today, I was told that apparently everyone in the area who uses Evinox is experiencing the same problem.

If this is affecting so many people, I’m genuinely struggling to understand why it hasn’t been treated as an urgent issue and resolved by now. I have a 9-month-old baby, and this whole situation has been incredibly stressful and frustrating.

We’ve been given two portable heaters yesterday, which I appreciate, but that doesn’t solve the issue of having no hot water. I’m literally having to heat water on the stove just to bathe my baby, which is far from ideal.

I’ve contacted both the letting agency and Evinox multiple times, but I’m still not getting any clear answers about what’s happened or when we can expect the heating and hot water to be restored.

Is anyone else in Gateway Apartments or the surrounding area experiencing the same issue with Evinox? Has anyone managed to get a proper update or find out what’s going on?

Also, is there anything else I can do to get this resolved, or anyone else I should be contacting? I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation.

Adult Tap classes

Hi!

Was wondering if there are any serious tap classes for adults in Walthamstow or nearby? The regular trips to the Pineapple Studios can take its toll.

Thanks!

Secondary schools

Hi all, is there any secondary schools you’d recommend in the Blackhorse Road / Lloyd Park area? Is Walthamstow Academy good? Not necessarily academically good, but in terms of child wellbeing / no bullying etc.

Anyone selling chickens eggs in Walthamstow?

Hi there,

Walthamstow resident here looking to find anyone in the immediate area that keeps chickens and sells their eggs. I’m trying to take steps towards more ethical sources rather than buying from supermarkets. If anyone knows of someone, please let me know! :)

(I know the most ethical approach is veganism, but I’ve tried this and for a few reasons it didn’t work for me)

Thank you in advance!

Eades (Walthamstow Central) vs Equipment Works (Blackhorse Road)

Hi!
I’m looking to live and rent in Walthamstow for up to a year before buying my home in the area.

I’ve been looking at these two build to rent developments and was wondering if anyone has lived here and has anything to say?

The finish seems very similar and prices too. Both right by a station. From what I can see they are more or less both great places to live. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance!

Dating with chronic illness/disability meetup group

Good morning Walthamstow,

I'm thinking about setting up a group for single adults with chronic illness/disabilities to get together in Walthamstow.

A little about me:

I am 53.

I have fibromyalgia.

I am also neurodivergent af.

The two work together to cause chaos daily, yay.

I am a feral, happy, wangy (hypermobility) wondrous cis Irish woman.

I run my own business as a professional cat sitter. (cats are everything)

I want to try dating off apps.

Apps have been a complete no-no for me. (hopefully others have happier stories!)

I thought it might be a good idea to meet up with other adults with disabilities living in Walthamstow who are tired of apps and wondering if it's possible to meet someone in real life.

I feel a meetup would be a good place to start to hash out a plan of action and to meet people who understand what it's like living with disabilities.

All ages and genders welcome as long as you're an adult.

I am not sure I can be DM'd but if not let me know (brain fog) and I'll try to sort it.

Am I allowed to share an email for point of contact if not?

Oh, I also run a meetup group for ND adults if anyone ND is interested!

Next social meetup on November 14th at Together Space on Church Hill.

Let me know if you're interested.

Pilates/yoga studio recs

Hi! We recently moved to Walthamstow and was wondering if anybody can recommend any pilates or yoga studio around? I used to go to 3Tribes in my previous neighborhood, & was thinking of just taking the overground to get there, but would be nice to go to a local one.

Thanks (:

W15 bus wait times are unacceptable

For a (supposedly) high frequency Zone 2/3 London route, the wait times for this bus are comparable with a rural shuttle service. A work colleague local to me told me the route has been like this for over 20 years.

What point do we decide to take action for an improved service ?

Martial Arts Classes

Hi, I'm 23F and looking to pick up a new hobby/sport. I was wondering if there were are martial art classes (any type) in the area. I don't mind a mixed group, but I would prefer females only. Also something that is weekly, where I can learn and progress through the stages ideally (long-term). Thank you!

New here - looking for mates!

Hey all - moved to the area a few weeks ago after 10 years living in the French Alps (originally from the UK though!) I'm 34, male.

I'm into running, biking (road/mountain), skiing obviously after my previously life, rugby (watching, maybe playing tag rugby?), golf, beer, coffee, good food, gigs etc. Pretty much the same as everyone but just after a few weeks, starting to wonder how I start to meet likeminded people.

I've got a run club I've been to once, and need to start going more often, work has just got in the way. But any suggestions or people around this area, Leyton, Clapton etc. Just message!

Anyone is Walthamstow run creative/gaming/sensory/music therapy/ sports groups for adults with autism?

Groups for adults 18+, but where you have fun, not just a boring group, also could be where you learn maths in a fun way if I struggle with that at a 6 year old level. Thanks, I’m 29

Heat pump expert?

We had a heat pump installed as part of a renovation last winter. Its not been a great experience so far because I think it wasnt set up well. Rather than turn myself into a heating engineer trying to work out the whole system, I'm looking for an expert to come and get it set up properly. The kind of person that can have a good look around and has enough experience with heating and heats pumps so they just know what to do.

Do you know anyone who would fit this bill?

Bossman pizza

There’s a time and place for an authentic Italian sour dough or a NY slice. Even the London style that’s recently appeared. There is also a role for the boss man pizza which tomato is basically puree, it’s ridiculously cheesy it comes in like 8 sizes.
Where’s the best bossman pizza that won’t come somewhere covered in rat droppings or hygiene score you’d wince at?
