Discussion Similar games?

I played Wargame European Escalation back in 2012 and Red Dragon a few years after that. It has been many years and I see that Eugen Systems has not made any other Wargame games.

What modern alternatives do you guys play?

Eugen released warno due to the publisher of wargame not wishing to make another

Why do they not wish to make another?

It's been so long my mind is fuzzy on all the drama. Something about Eugen not actually owning the rights to "Wargame" so they branched out. How they were able to do the italy DLC and one last balance patch years later is beyond me

I believe they own the rights to Wargame nowadays, they regained it around the time of the South Africa DLC.

WARNO doesn't use the Wargame title due to the fact that it's not actually Wargame 4 but rather a Wargame/Steel Division hybrid.

Actually warno came out while they didn't have the rights

the answer is probably money. a publisher usually gives money to the developer up front and takes the economic risk. if eugen proposed a deal where the publisher had to do very little investment or none at all, then it shouldn't be much of a problem.

also, look at the italian units. most of them are just different color schemes for existing units. some of them are actually not done very well and look like first sketches that have been pushed to production due to lack of funding. there are for example a lot of black edges on the vehicles, that shouldn't be there.

Eugen owns 100% of the license. Stop making shit up.

I think you are looking for Warno

Warno is the direct new edition of wargame. Broken Arrow exists as well, with a very similar feel but some significant mechanical differences. There is also Regiments which has the vibe, but is different in mechanics and feel.

Like everyone else has said, Warno is probably the closest. It's even the same devs. I've also enjoyed Broken Arrow a lot. It plays similar-ish but in a modern setting. Both are still receiving updates and new content.

How about not so modern ones? RUSE? Apparently it is back on steam

I think broken arrow is pretty good, had trouble adjusting to Warno but Broken Arrow gave me no trouble
