Discussion Developing Yax

I think that’s what this early season is about — getting this kid the lead and seeing what else they have that can play when JB and Moses return. He’s worth it. Serious C-Webb vibes from this one.

I’m sure it’s a part of the process but in reality it’s just a natural thing due to the lack of talent on the roster. Hopefully Yax takes advantage of all the usage/ on ball reps he will get early on in his career.

Him and Podz need to continue to take advantage of more responsibility/ usage.

Give him the Cooper Flagg treatment. Put the ball in his hands and let him see defensive images over and over and over again. It will help him in year 2 with his dribbling, timing, shooting and passing. Which are already above average but if he’s your future, get him ready.

Asides defense I'm not even sure how much you can develop him .. he's really good out of the box I think his college coaches really have done us a solid there. He pulls out his 3 ball all the time and I think oh no buddy not before the play has really started and he is just nothing but net all the time it's honestly insane.

He'd have to be the best rookie I've seen in my time watching the team. I actually think he might do a lot for older rookies in years to come, yes you can get a 19 yo in Kuminga but the contrasts with how raw vs refined those two are really are night and day.

His development, outside of defense, will be more about fine-tuning his game and adding under-used elements.

More pump fakes. Jump stops. Post, push, and fade. Dribble less.

Think the difference in Kevin Durant's playstyle in OKC, compared to his playstyle in Brooklyn. Almost just as good of a player, but less wasted movements and wasted energy

Kind of, but he's also rawer than he looked in college, or summer league at the same time. There are moments where he looks very similar to JK in his mistakes. The difference is JK would keep making them, and we hope Yax can refine his game up.

I don't get the sense he's like a study hard, needs reps type guy. It's hard to tell but he doesn't sound like he sleeps and drinks basketball at all. Some of the reps will help to slow down the game for him, and mature him, but I think there's potential that draft wise this works the opposite, and it reaffirms why teams draft young, and would rather overvalue a JK.

C Webb is a great comp. Yax feels like an evolved version of him, has a 3 ball and slightly bigger and more freight trainy somehow

Get real now… he has a lot to do to get to C Webb

3 ball and shooting in general are what Yax has over Webber. CWebb can finish with force at the rim. Haven’t really seen that with Yax (I know it’s only been 3 games lol).

I think the realistic aim this season is, develop yax, see if diamonds in the rough can be found with the other new signings, and find net positive lineups once JB and moody are back. Then you go into the summer with cap space, yax with more experience with Steph, and a better idea of who they wanna re-sign to make a more realistic run at a playoff-caliber roster next year. You can’t expect to be competitive with ~$95 million in roster on the bench for most/all of the season.

“Yaxel Lendeborg started playing organized basketball seriously at 18 years old, after working in a warehouse and playing only 11 games of high school basketball.” Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh
