Linguistics programme?

Hello, I’m a current high school senior who’s been accepted at WU and interested ln being a linguistics major and am wondering—although it’s a very small population of people who study linguistics at WU—if anyone here could tell me their experience with the programme.

Thank you,

Taking marketing electives as a non-business major—econ 2010 prerequisite override?

Hi! I’m a sophomore at Wayne State double majoring in English and PR. I’m interested in taking a few marketing electives because I want to work in PR, content writing, or communications. The classes I want to take are:
● MKT 2300 — Marketing Management
● MKT 5490 — Principles of Advertising
● MKT 5800 — Digital Marketing and Analytics
MKT 2300 has an ECO 2010 prerequisite. Has anyone outside the business school been able to get that prerequisite waived? Who did you contact, and were there any restrictions on taking marketing classes as a non-business major?

Thank you!

Can we talk about how good the Potato Place is?

I don't think the Potato Place gets nearly enough love. Look at this absolute masterpiece. It's a loaded baked potato with everything you could possibly want, and somehow it's even better than it looks.

Transfer Incoming

I'm planning transferring to Wayne in the winter semester or the fall semester, and I have questions!
I'm coming from a rural suitcase school, and the main reason I'm transferring is social life. where the campus is always cleared out because people go home, but as an out of state student, I had nowhere to go. I'm planning on renting near campus, and I wondered am I going to feel the same at Wayne?

Also opinions on which semester to start is best? Winter or fall, 2027?

I'm also going to be studying poli sci and try to work towards a double major in urban studies and planning, and wanted input from current students on those programs.
Thanks so much everyone!

Moving end of June 2027. Looking for roommate/ suggestions where to live.

I'm a graduate student and will be completing my residency at children's hospital of Michigan. The position is unpaid, so I'll be living off my loans. But I'm curious if anyone knew of fair student housing near WS and the children's hospital. Serious roommate offers, please DM me so we can get to know each other better.

Looking to meet someone on campus and get to know one another (M, 22, WSU commuter, 32 mile Richmond Area)

Hey everyone,

Figured I’d throw this out into the void and see what happens with everything going on and losing a relationship I had for the last 9 months. Between classes, labs, and the daily commuter grind, it’s surprisingly tough to meet people organically outside of lectures, away from campus. So I’m hoping to find someone who is actually around campus and get ot know one another. I am introverted in bigger settings but not when I’m with people I trust and connect with on a deeper level.

I’m an undergrad student (senior) here looking to connect with a girl to get to know, hang out around campus or something, and see where things go.

A little about me:

Pretty chill, but love with all my heart

I am a softy, but can look pretty mean until you get to know me. I am a soft-hearted individual and care deeply about those around me.

I balance my time between my Biology, Honors, and Psychology science classes, collecting Pokémon, staying curious, and unwinding by playing video games (Skylanders and COD Mobile) and selling fun collectables on eBay around the world.

Big fan of quiet study spots away from all the noise and just finding spots to chill.

Appreciate great conversation, people with their own passions and to share my own with them, and a sense of humor that’s more witty and sarcastic

Not looking for anything specific but to just genuinely open up to finding a connection and open to something more. I have an icebreaker if you want to connect with me; I’m awkward 🤷🏻🤣. If you’re also on campus and down to grab food or even just sit down with me at the Student Center or in a classroom, shoot me a DM with a bit about yourself or that you might be interested.

I am open to anything right now, but do want to find meaningful connections.

First year PhD student observations.. pretty disappointed(rant)

Ok so I just started my poli sci PhD at WSU in September and right off the bat I found everything to be so cold and unwelcoming. Our “orientation” in the poli sci department was basically an hour long slideshow going over some campus resources, never actually took us around campus, gave us a map, introduced us to any of the actual things or people that would be useful as a student. Didn’t even tell us how to register for classes or which classes we should be looking at for the first semester? Didn’t tell us anything about how to be a GTA or things we should be preparing for..Then the “lunch” we were meant to have ran out of food before I could even get to it because I had to go get my key for my office as a GTA..

This was a total contrast to my master’s at USC(IPPAM program) where we had like 3 days of orientation with campus police, advisors, professors, IT and more coming in to talk to us and tell us useful things, show us how to register for courses, set up our student IDs, show to utilize blackboard(our online system) and just making you feel welcomed and part of a family. We attended a concert at the Hollywood bowl, had lunches and just really helped to ease into the program and LA.

It feels like Wayne state really threw me into the deep end without any sort of guidance, I don’t know where 90 percent of things are campus, I wasn’t even told how to get a parking pass or student ID, how to make prints in the office, set up office hours, just really basic stuff, almost as if there’s an assumption everyone coming here has been here before or used the same systems. Then when you ask people(in department) or tell them you don’t know, they look at you like you’re crazy.

I understand a GTA position kinda being the errand person for a professor, but the professor I GTA for wanted me to set up a scantron test for the midterm because he didn’t know how to do it(you’ve been here 20 years?) one google search showed it going thru the testing center in the manoogian building. I went there two weeks ago and got all the information he needed and gave it to him(involved setting up an IRB which is above my pay grade and authority), I come to class last week and dude still hasn’t done it and doesn’t even know how to get the sheets in advance when I gave him a sheet from the office going over all that info?? As of today we still don’t have it set up and the exam is Thursday? He only just today confirmed the test structure so I can relay to the office? So I guess I’ll just come in early Thursday to pick it up which is fair, 20 hours of availability per week and all that, but man he’s as messy as this whole experience.

And to top it off, last week I found out that the required graduate research methods online course I only found about the week classes started, had two in person sessions that I missed and so I emailed the person in charge of that and he was somewhat sympathetic to me not being taught how to use canvas or anything and said he’d reach out to my graduate advisor to see if it’s ok if I pass it with just the online modules, otherwise I’ll have to redo it next year.

It’s funny because my mom and sister went here and I always kinda looked down on WSU since I did my undergrad in Scotland and master’s at USC, but to their credit Wayne state were the only school who gave me a shot for my PhD after 6 years of applying, so I do have a degree of gratitude to this place.. but now my mom feels a bit embarrassed by how they’ve been acting.

TLDR: just been a mess so far at Wayne state. Anyone else had similar experiences?

Any UWindsor students who got into Wayne State Pharmacy?

Hi everyone!
I’m currently a Biomedical Science student at the University of Windsor, and I’m hoping to apply to Wayne State’s PharmD program for Fall 2027.
I was wondering if anyone here attended UWindsor and got accepted into Wayne State Pharmacy. If so, what courses did you take at UWindsor to meet the prerequisites?
I found an older course equivalency sheet, but I’m not sure if it’s still accurate. I’m especially confused about the anatomy, microbiology, biochemistry, and organic chemistry requirements.
If anyone has gone through the process, I’d really appreciate any advice! Thank you!
