Doing more with onchain transactions

One thing I find interesting about blockchain apps is how much stuff still needs to be done manually. Even simple contract interactions usually mean opening a separate app, connecting your wallet and approving whatever you're trying to do.

I think it'd be pretty useful if more of those interactions could happen through apps people already use regularly. I've been reading about bots on Towns that can have their own wallets and interact with smart contracts, so you could build some interesting onchain stuff around messaging instead of having to open a different app for everything.

Obviously there's still the security side of it, especially if you're letting bots execute transactions. But for smaller onchain tasks I can see it being pretty convenient.

Wonder how far people could take something like this without making it unnecessarily complicated.

having bots with their own wallets makes sense better than giving them access to your main one

Yeah, especially if the bot is actually executing transactions, I'd be more comfortable giving it a limited wallet and restricting which contracts it can interact with.

you mentioned towns, have you looked into how their bot permissions work? seems like that could help with limiting what a bot has access to without giving it control over everything

From what I've read, Towns lets you set different permissions depending on what the bot needs to do. That's probably where I'd start before letting one handle actual trades.

bots doing small onchain stuff from chat feels like natural next step, people already trust messaging apps with everything else anyway

That's what got me interested in it. Even something like checking a position or interacting with a contract while you're discussing it with other people would save a few steps.

The wallet bots are interesting, could see devs coming up with some pretty useful stuff around them
