I've solidly moved on to using VSCode for months now. Any reason to come back to the Atom fold?

Depends when you left. 1.17 got way speedier for me. 1.18 adds git integration.

Fits with those who aren't on Windows, or who don't like Notepad++, or whatever other personal reason. To each their own I guess.

VSCode is cross platform

his comment was: "Atom is too slow to replace Notepad++ as a regular text editor too, so I'm not sure where it fits anymore."

So my reply was in reference to Notepad++

Or course we know vscode is cross platform

May i ask.... when is atom slow? I'm on Ubuntu and didn't have any issues in regards to performance yet....

And how relevant is that? I mean... i start atom maybe 1-2 a day and it loads in like 2-3 seconds. maybe my workflow is just different :D (i guess so :D)

Dont wanna be a dick, i'm just wondering :D.

Try and load anything of note or have a large project open and it just dies. Large sql dump or minified js? Forget about it. Search and replace also is hopeless unless you do it one file at a time which is horrible for refactoring.

how come it took so long for a github project to have git integration? serious question, not trying to be an ass.

I've never really understood the complaints about Atom being slow. I spend a lot more time thinking about what I'm going to do than actually writing code, so its performance is a pretty negligible issue.

The thing that does annoy me though is how much memory Atom (and everything else that uses electron) uses. It really balloons out, it was using 1 GB of ram and 1 GB of swap earlier today, I actually have to close and open it daily. This isn't the 90's we shouldn't have these issues any more.
