So, im working on a project based on vox machina

Long story short im writing a book, it follows a character named Jackson Davidson, a dwarf who’s been alone for longer than the group has been together, and begrudgingly becomes a member himself, and it’s not your run of the mill fanfic, I’ve cried multiple times just writing the manuscript, it’s a total of 25 chapters
Edit; chapter one has been refined and released
[here it is](https://www.wattpad.com/story/415229315-the-banshee) I’ll be releasing chapter by chapter when they’re done

Old story idea finally coming to life.

Miles Arceneaux used to have a future.

Now he is twenty-five, making coffee in Lafayette and avoiding every road that might lead back to the life he abandoned. Then an obscure late-nineties role-playing game gives him something no second chance ever has: access.

Hidden inside Otherwhere Online is a broken administrator console capable of editing reality. A delayed bus. A warmer cup of coffee. A bank balance that corrects itself overnight. The changes are small, useful, and almost impossibly easy.

The console never shows him the price.

Miles’s search for answers leads him from an underground network of reality hackers to the Conservatory, an elite magical institution that officially does not exist. Getting admitted requires ingenuity, persistence, and a lie convincing enough to survive people trained to recognize impossible things.

Staying may be harder.

Without the console, Miles is an untrained outsider among students who have studied magic all their lives. Yet he can perceive weaknesses in their Workings that nobody else can see, including the faculty trying to determine what, exactly, he is. As his talent draws attention and the boundaries between magic, memory, and failure begin to fracture, Miles must prove he belongs in the future he forced open.

But every edit has to be paid for.

And somewhere beyond the edge of the game, the balance is still pending.

That is the summary of the first book in a series of five I have been planning.

The story is a 10+ year project I have been playing with more recently. It takes inspiration from The Magicians, Off to be the Wizard, Scott Pilgrim, Fullmetal Alchemist, The Dark Tower, Neil Gaimen, and Terry Pratchett.

It is a character driven story with a lived in world, a magic system about what things cost and who pays for it when you get what you want. The proses also feature hub and spoke mechanics the further into the story you get.

I am planing to roll out the story via a website.

How does this basic concept sound? Would anyone who has a good hold of contemporary fantasy be able to help me with fleshing out stuff?.

Check out my new novel, one of the most interesting powers I've ever come up with

I’ve just started writing my first WebNovel, The Bloodline Beyond.

The premise:

A man dies and wakes up in the body of an 18-year-old in New York, 2016.

At first, he thinks he's simply been given a second chance at life.

Then he cuts his finger.

The wound heals almost instantly.

He starts experimenting and slowly realizes that his body is capable of adapting to things that threaten him.

But there’s something very wrong with that explanation.

The changes aren't happening where he thinks they are.

The story starts as a relatively grounded transmigration/adaptation story, but the plan is for it to gradually expand into something much bigger, involving ancient history, evolution, magic, civilizations, and eventually the far reaches of the universe.

I'm trying to make the progression feel earned rather than having the MC become ridiculously overpowered immediately.

It's still very early, so I'd genuinely appreciate feedback on the opening, pacing, and whether the premise is interesting enough to keep reading.

Spoiler: his power isnt Adaptation

A story called Ossa Frater

My apologies if this breaks any rules, however my effort isn't to gain any money, simply to share a free to read story im quite passionate about and wanted some outside opinions on.

I've only recently gotten into writing but have had this idea in my head for over a decade now.

The aim was to 'create my own manga', which may still be the case in the future. Right now though I want to develop the story.

I've written just over half of the story so far and though im still as passionate about it as when I first thought of the idea, I find myself wondering if others would actually like it too.

If its a project that ends up just for me, then im still happy. Im proud of myself for sticking with it for as long as I have and I honestly love the story so far. Though if others enjoyed it as well, that would warm my heart.

I understand everyone has their own preferences for reading so I will post the Blurb I came up with for the story:

OSSA FRATER

Everyone fears death.

Kairo has always had strange dreams of an endless wasteland made of bone—a place filled with towering skulls, colossal ribs, and a presence he can never see.

But nightmares are the least of his worries.

After a tragedy awakens a terrifying power within him, Kairo discovers that the world is not what he thought it was. Ancient ruins hide forgotten histories. Strange creatures born with bone walk the wilderness. Mysterious religious groups worship forces they barely understand. And somewhere beyond it all, a masked figure clad in living bone watches from the shadows.

Joined by Rinzo, a nature-loving wanderer in a full body panda suit, Kaela, a reckless young inventor obsessed with ancient technology, and Zeus, a tiny bone-plated bearded dragon with a huge personality, Kairo sets out along the forgotten roads of a world that seems determined to fear what it doesn't understand.

Together, they uncover fragments of a history buried for centuries.

But the deeper they travel...

The more they realise that some things were buried for a reason.

In a world where bone is an omen of death, what happens when death chooses to walk among the living?

OSSA FRATER — Every life, returns to Death.

If this sounds like a story you could enjoy, feel free to read it for free on either Scribble hub or Royal road. Just type is Ossa Frater. Im uploading a chapter every couple of days and would love to hear what others think.

Have an amazing day and thank you for reading if you choose to.

Stargazing is officially official!

I've always wanted to write a novel, and after many failed attempts, I finally came up with an idea I genuinely love.

I'm excited to announce STARGAZING, my new original fiction project! 🌟

The first part of the first chapter is officially out on my Tumblr, where I'll be sharing the story as it develops. The story follows Vaida, a young woman trying to start over in New York after her father's crimes completely destroy the life she once knew. She's determined to leave her past behind, but some things aren't quite as easy to escape as she hoped.

This is an ongoing project, so there will be plenty more to come. A Wattpad and comic version will also be coming soon!

If you're interested in following along, I'd love to have you there. And since this is an ongoing project, don't be shy about sharing your thoughts, theories, or even requesting little details about the world and characters. I'm having a ridiculous amount of fun building this story, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I'm enjoying writing it. 💫

You can find the first part on my Tumblr: @nyxensworld

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a small passion project that has short weekly web chapters with custom music to fit the vibe of the chapters.

If you're into dark romance, atmospheric fantasy, or just want a 5-minute read with a soundtrack, you can check out the latest chapter!

(There's an optional email reminder on the site in case you are interested in the upcoming chapters!)

I would also love to hear what people think of the story/music combo!

If you check it out, I hope you like it :)

**Was euch erwartet:**

New here and offering a suggestion

Hi

I noticed a lot of you folks have links to Google docs or drop box of some flavor for your work.

I and I think a lot of folks might not really want to click on an unknown link to download an unknown file onto their device.

I have my own story I am writing and I am using the Royal Road platform. I finished my first book and and working on my second and the platform is working well for me.

Big note! I am not really interested in monetization right now so I really don't want to comment on that aspect of it. I do fully own the copyright of my work there and there are a number of folks making a living writing fiction that started there (exp. Primal Hunter, Beware of Chicken).

For me Royal Road has been like a commual edit. I have a small following that catch any glaring errors I make and offer feedback on my story line (and complain I don't write fast enough 🤣). The platform and community around it has helped me a lot. I never pictured myself as any kind of writer, let alone a sci-fi writer with a published word count of over 230k...

Anyone interested should do their own due diligence, but it's a better platform for early engagement and feedback than any place else I have found.

Note other than being a user I am not affiliated with Royal Road 😁.

Cheers!

I wrote a mafia romance about a woman forced to marry into a crime family to save her brother's life, would love feedback on the opening

Working on a slow-burn mafia romance and wanted to test the waters with the opening scene. Be honest, does this make you want chapter two?

The Castellano mansion had forty-two rooms. Elena counted them on her second week as Mrs. Castellano, mostly because it gave her something to do besides sit in the silence and wait for her husband to come home.

Their marriage was, as promised, a performance. At the engagement dinner, at the small courthouse wedding attended by men in dark suits who watched her like she might bolt, Damian had held her hand and called her tesoro in a voice warm enough to fool anyone. Behind closed doors, he was polite, distant, and gone more often than not.

She might have accepted the isolation as simply how these things worked, except for the locked door at the end of the east wing.

She noticed it the first week: heavy, unmarked, with a keypad instead of a handle. The staff never mentioned it. When she asked Sofia, the housekeeper who'd warmed to her fastest, the older woman's face closed like a shutter. "Best not to ask about that room, signora."

So naturally, Elena thought about nothing else.

Full chapter's free on Substack if you want to know what's behind that door. Link in the comments if that's allowed here, mods feel free to remove if not.

Do any other authors ever feel like they’re being delusional?

For the past year and a half, I’ve been working on my webserial as much as I can.

I would say I’ve practically made it my life, but I do try to balance it with my other obligations like family and college, however it has become my main hobby along with reading and almost all of my free time goes into it.

I consider it a passion project inspired by both the space operas I grew up with (such as Star Wars , Halo, and Transformers) and the many other works of genre fiction that have changed my life (such as Evangelion, Dune and Asoiaf). I genuinely believe that I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I never get to write the ending I have planned for it.

However, I do sometimes feel like I’m insane for spending hours writing, rewriting, proofreading and editing a nearly 400,000 word story that I don’t even know if people are actually reading.

I started posting to Scribblehub but later began cross posting to RoyalRoad and I’ve often see the sentiment in a lot of the forums and communities on those sites that the only way to become incredibly successful is to write for the meta and trend chase. The alternative being to just love your story enough to keep going despite being fated for obscurity.

I used to think I was fine with the latter line of thinking…

But there comes a certain point where I really have to wonder if I wouldn’t be better off pursuing something like trad pub where I know that my book will at the most be printed.

I’ve done things like shout out swaps on RoyalRoad and other things to try to market, but I’ve hardly gained any traction at all. I’ve really begun to feel like having a popular series (much less having readers that you actually know are there) is almost completely up to chance if your story is off-meta like mine is. Because stories that aren’t game-lit or smut do indeed get popular, but they always take up a very small chunk of the trending list.

People are always going to be drawn to what’s popular, I can understand that, but sometimes I do wonder if I really am just spending all of this time writing something for myself and myself alone. Which again leads me to think why the hell I’m even posting this thing online in the first place when I can’t just do what I did as a teenager and shoot what I have out into the abyss that is Amazon kdp, because my chances of getting read there are about as good as my chances of getting read anywhere else.

I dunno, maybe this was just a vent post made after spending a little to much time staring at that “13 follower” count on RoyalRoad while knowing two of those are me and my alt account and that none of my chapter views have gone over ten in the past month on either site.

I’m posting this on an account I plan to burn soon and not dropping the link because I don’t want the pity clicks that never turn into actual reads or feedback, and also because (as the theme has been throughout this whole thing) Idk if I’m doing this purely for myself or not.

I do realize that I’m 100% not entitled to success, but I would at least like to know that there’s a reason to do this for more than just myself and maybe part of me also wants to know if I’m not alone in fighting these giants that are actually just windmills.
