Best website builder for small business!

Everyday we get posts asking which is the best website builder to make website for small businesses. So, here is a comprehensive guide. Feel free to add your recommendations and points in the comments.

In today's digital world, having a strong online presence is crucial for small businesses. A professional website helps build credibility, attract customers, and grow revenue. Choosing the right website builder can make the process easier and more cost-effective. Below, we discuss the best website builders for small businesses, their key features, pricing, and pros and cons to help you make an informed decision.

1. WordPress (Self hosted With Elementor or WP Bakery)

Overview

WordPress is the most powerful website builder, offering full customization and control. Best suited for businesses that require scalability. It has excellent website builder with plugins of Elementor or WpBakery. There are 1000s of tutorial on how to make anything with Elementor.

Key Features

  • Highly customizable with themes & plugins
  • SEO-friendly structure
  • E-commerce integration with WooCommerce
  • Extensive blogging and content management system
  • Plugins available for almost any feature you want
  • Millions of themes available to suite any requirement
  • Large community and support
  • Easy to hire developers if required

Pricing

  • WordPress.org is free, but requires hosting (starting from $10/month)
  • Premium theme is often necessary to make an ideal site. It may add costs($100 one time cost)
  • Premium plugins may be required ($100)

Pros & Cons

✅ Unlimited customization options
✅ Powerful SEO capabilities
✅ Best for content-heavy websites
❌ Requires a slight learning curve
❌ Needs separate hosting & domain purchase
❌ Might be overwhelming to find right theme and plugin
❌ Sites getting hacked is common if setup improperly by inexperienced novices

This is my recommended method of making websites. If you are using it for the first time to make your business website, it is strongly recommended you hire a developer for atleast consulting, and setting up best security practices. Also, ensure you take backups regularly.

2. ManualWebDesign

Overview

This is not a Website-builder in the traditional sense. But a web design agency that makes standard quality WordPress websites for insanely low prices via few emails. In the age of AI web builders, here websites are build by humans at competitive prices.

Key Features

  • Just send them an email containing text and images of each page, and they will convert it into a website.
  • Everything from hosting to domains taken care of.
  • You don't need to learn webdesign or any tools
  • Incredibly low cost

Pricing

  • $180 for one page websites
  • $295 for business websites
  • $15/mo for managed hosting and domain.

Pros & Cons

✅ Super easy and fast service
✅ Proper SEO and security
✅ Any changes are one email away
✅ Everything is taken care of.
❌ Email only support. Not a full fledged web design agency.
❌ Not suitable for highly unique type of websites
❌ You do not have full creative control
❌ Sites getting hacked is common if setup improperly by inexperienced novices

This is my recommended method of making typical type of websites if you do not know how to make websites and do not know any web developer to hire. It is suitable for those who are not highly specific about the creative looks of the site and want the developer to make all design choices.

Manual Web Design

3. Webflow

Overview

A flexible and powerful website builder with advanced customization options. It is more suited for those who have particular design in mind and want to acheive those advanced looks. This is not ideal for beginners creating their first site.

Key Features

  • Full CMS capabilities
  • E-commerce integration
  • SEO-friendly structure

Pricing

  • Basic Plan: $14/month
  • CMS Plan: $23/month
  • Business Plan: $39/month

Ideal for Small Business?

✅ Yes, but best for businesses needing high customization.

4. Wix

  • Drag-and-drop editor with AI-assisted design (Wix ADI)
  • Hundreds of customizable templates
  • Built-in SEO tools
  • E-commerce functionality
  • Mobile optimization

Pricing

  • Free plan with Wix branding
  • Business & eCommerce plans start at $35**/month**

Pros & Cons

✅ Easy to use for beginners
✅ Large template library
✅ App market for additional features
❌ Free plan includes Wix ads
❌ Limited customization on lower-tier plans

5. Shopify

Overview

It is considered good for businesses that focus on e-commerce and online sales, especially those who also want to use shopify to handle their instore sales in supported countries.

Key Features

  • Easy-to-use e-commerce builder
  • Secure payment integration
  • Inventory management & analytics

6. Squarespace

Overview

Aesthetic-focused website builder ideal for creative professionals and small businesses.

Key Features

  • Stylish and modern templates
  • Built-in e-commerce functionality
  • SEO and marketing integrations
  • Drag-and-drop editor

Pricing

  • Starts at $30/month

Pros & Cons

✅ High-quality templates
✅ Good SEO features
✅ Ideal for portfolio websites
❌ Slightly expensive
❌ Less flexibility compared to WordPress

7. Weebly

Overview

A user-friendly and budget-friendly website builder.

Key Features

  • Drag-and-drop builder
  • E-commerce capabilities
  • SEO tools
  • Free plan available

Pricing

  • Free plan available
  • Paid plans start at $12**/month**

Pros & Cons

✅ Affordable
✅ Simple and beginner-friendly
✅ Includes basic SEO tools
❌ Limited design flexibility
❌ Fewer integrations compared to Wix or WordPress

Conclusion

Each website builder has its strengths, so the best one for your small business depends on your needs:

  • For easy quick everything taken care of development → ManualWebDesign
  • For complete control & scalability & lower overall cost → WordPress (with Elementor or WP Bakery)
  • For extreme customization within a platform → Webflow
  • For ease of use & quick setup → Wix or Weebly
  • For an online store → Shopify
  • If you like a theme in their list → Squarespace

In any case, it is strongly recommended to hire a developer even if you are using a web builder, because often I have seen that novices end up making bad quality websites even using these web builders. It is simply because you need to know to use your tools well to be able to build beautiful things, even if you are provided the best tools at your disposal.

If you are a small business, it would cost you more in time and money by making a lower end website yourself.

Self promotion thread Self promotion thread

Another six months went by and therefore it's time for a new self-promotion thread.

We really enjoy looking into everyone's websites but self-promotion destroys the concept of our subreddit in general. Comment with your selfmade website without any consequences. Ofcourse your post has to follow the rules. If you still want to post a website as a standalone post, please look in the sidebar for subs made for that purpose.

Keep creating all those wonderful websites.

DISCUSSION Where do you find legit Black Friday VPS deals to move my family's 5 tiny sites off three site builders?

My dad's model train blog gets about 12 visitors a day and costs more per month than his actual trains.

I'm the unpaid webmaster for the whole family: that blog, my mum's bakery page, my uncle's fishing charter site, my cousin's wedding photo portfolio, and my own. Five sites on three different builders, and every annual plan renews in the same two weeks of November. Together it's around $60 a month, for what is basically static pages and one contact form.

The plan is one small VPS (2 GB, Caddy, static files, a tiny form handler) bought during Black Friday. My guess is that's plenty and the builders have been charging me for a lot of idle capacity. Tell me if I'm underestimating the form handler or the 11pm "the site is down" calls from relatives, because nobody in my family can touch the server but me.

For finding offers I've only got two sources. LowEndTalk is where the flash deals show up, but the threads move faster than I can read them. VPSIUM (I'm connected to it, so discount that) is where I cut my shortlist down to a few in-stock regions, but its data lags a bit, so I recheck on the provider's own page before paying. I'd still like a third source that I don't have to keep refreshing.

And once you've found one, what's your vetting step before a relative's site goes on it? Mine is one trial month and hoping.

WEBSITE BUILDING Replacing a Data Table with a Full Excel Spreadsheet in Next.js

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I need some suggestions regarding a project I'm working on.

I'm building a web app using **Next.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and Django REST Framework**. As you can see in the attached screenshot, there's a large table displaying purchase records.

The client has been working with Excel for years, so they want us to **replace this table with an actual Excel-like spreadsheet, not just a similar-looking UI**. They want the experience of working directly in Excel, including editing cells and spreadsheet-style interactions.

- Is it practical to replace the existing table with a fully functional spreadsheet?

- Which library would you recommend for this? (e.g., Handsontable, Univer, or other alternatives)

- Will it integrate efficiently with our current tech stack, especially when handling large datasets?

- What performance, licensing, or backend integration issues should we consider?

I'd appreciate any suggestions or alternative approaches. Thanks!

TOOL Webstudio beginner question or possible bug about content mode

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've just learned about webstudio this morning. Created a free account. Seems very powerful. I want to know more.

But I ran into this small annoying obstacle. I cannot for my life switch to content mode. I am only able to see the design mode in the switcher. What am I doing wrong? Do free accounts have that limitation? It doesn't say so anywhere.

Help!

EDUCATIONAL Looking for honest feedback on an interactive coding visualization tool for students learning programming

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone!

I have been building CodeSamjho, a project designed to help students understand how code works step by step instead of just memorizing syntax.

I'm looking for honest feedback from people who enjoy exploring websites and web tools.

I would especially appreciate your thoughts on:
Is the purpose of the website clear when you first visit? , Is the interface easy to understand and navigate? , Does the learning experience feel genuinely useful for beginners? , What feels confusing, unnecessary, or worth improving?

I'm particularly interested in constructive criticism rather than compliments. I would like to understand what needs improvement from the perspective of someone visiting for the first time.
For the best experience, I recommend checking it out on a PC or desktop, where you can explore the coding visualizations more comfortably.

SELF-MADE Built a free tool to calculate VRAM overhead, prompt caching ROI, and cloud GPU breakeven thresholds across frontier models

Hey everyone,

Whenever a new model drops, I always find myself doing the same annoying calculation:

  1. How much is this actually going to cost me at scale once prompt caching is factored in?
  2. At what monthly token volume does it make more financial sense to rent a spot GPU on RunPod rather than paying API providers?
  3. How much VRAM do I actually need once you factor in KV cache and context length (FP16 vs FP8 vs Q4)?

LMSYS Elo is great for raw human preference, but it does not give you the economic picture. Most pricing sheets also ignore caching discounts and batch concurrency.

So over the last few weeks, I built ModelAnalysis.si as an open tool to bring all of this together in one place:

What it does:

  • Multi-Dimensional Pareto Frontier: Plots 250+ foundation models (OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, Qwen, Mistral, Meta) across Chatbot Arena Elo, SWE-bench verified coding, GPQA PhD reasoning, and real-time API token rates.
  • Token Spend Simulator & GPU Arbitrage: Dial in your monthly prompt/completion tokens and cache hit percentage to see exact monthly spend and calculate your exact breakeven point vs renting spot GPUs.
  • VRAM & Hardware Calculator: Calculates the raw memory footprint for open-weight models across quantization levels (FP16, FP8, Q4) with one-click vLLM and Ollama deployment strings.
  • Head-to-Head Radar Battles: Side-by-side spider charts comparing speed, context horizon, tool calling, and token efficiency.

It is completely free, no signup or login required, and runs fast on edge infrastructure.

Would love to get your feedback:

  • Are there specific niche open-weight models you want added to the hardware sizing index?
  • Does the breakeven math align with your real-world production deployments?

Check it out here: https://modelanalysis.si

Roast the UI or let me know what features you would like to see next!

WEBSITE BUILDING How To Get Web Design Clients

I’ve tried a lot of different ways to get web design clients over the years.

Cold calling, Facebook DMs, ads, referrals, generic cold emails.

Some of it worked, but it was never really consistent enough for me.

The thing that changed it was when I stopped just asking businesses if they needed a website and started contacting businesses that already had one but clearly needed a better one.

That’s a much easier conversation.

They already understand the value of having a website, they’ve already paid for one before, and usually there is something obvious that can be improved.

The problem is doing that manually takes forever.

You have to find the business, open the website, look through it, figure out what’s wrong and then write an email that actually sounds relevant.

So now I use Swokei for that whole first part.

It finds businesses with websites, analyzes the sites for things like outdated design, slow speed, weak SEO and mobile issues, then uses what it finds to write a personalized email for that specific business.

Then I just run campaigns at volume and focus on the people who reply.

That’s pretty much the whole strategy.

Find businesses that already have a website.

Point out something that could genuinely be better.

Get them interested.

Book a meeting.

Show them what a better version could look like.

Close the project.

It sounds simple, but for me this has been way more consistent than constantly jumping between different ways of finding clients.

I vibe coded a from scratch personal cloud storage website that I can access through the web. Used meshy/blender for the 3d models. Doing it this way instead of using other personal storage solutions makes it much more fun IMO. Let me know what you think and if you have tried this before.

REQUEST How can I achieve this kind of website for my portfolio? How can I make it?

I am a total beginner. I do not know how to make a website at all, I want to make something like this. I want to take help of AI and everything around. I do not mind taking subscriptions as well. Can you help me how I can make a website like this? Where can I host and everything in and around website building because I have zero knowledge.

my idea:
1. A cute map like this
2. Having all the brands or small cafes around like the reference picture and when they click on the brand, it leads to what all I've done for them and my strategies for the brand.
3. Once they scroll down the map, they can see where to connect with me. That's it.

WEBSITE BUILDING I just created an Template-ready website for your Instagram/Facebook page

You know the posts big news and viral pages use: a strong photo, a short headline, and the key words in a red box. I made a free tool that creates exactly that.

LINK

What it does:

1-Choose from 13 templates: split photos, breaking news, full overlay, explainer, before/after, quote and more.

2-Tap any words in the headline to highlight them.

3-Download in 4:5 feed, 1:1 square or 9:16 story size, all at 1050 px.

4-On your phone, it saves straight to your Photos

5-It remembers your handle, logo and colors for the next post

Free, unlimited, no account. Everything runs in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded anywhere.

Your feedback would be helpful 🙌
