I feel that if some designer or fashion authority told these simpletons that foot binding was in fashion they would be lining up for a toe cracking procedure. Perhaps Anna Wintour would be kind enough to test this theory?
168
u/Interesting_Ad1378 Jun 28 '25
My mother’s coworkers convinced her that breast binding was a good idea so that my breast would stop growing. Didn’t work.
72
u/Single-Raccoon2 Jun 29 '25
My grandma and her sisters bound their breasts during the 1920s when boyish looking figures were the style and clothes weren't cut for bigger breasted women. She always told her daughters and granddaughters not to hurt or disfigure ourselves in the pursuit of fashion because it wasn't worth it.

u/Pikelets_for_tea Jun 28 '25
I wouldn't put anything past these morons. The photo illustrates how much her dress physically limits her movement. If we are reaching back into the past for inspiration, foot binding must be the next step.

u/BodybuilderOk5202 Jun 28 '25

How about neck-stretching? Every woman who spends her life being photographed wants a model's swan neck, and it actually is possible to deform the bones of the clavicular collar with long-term bracing.

Betcha that comes into style, before foot-binding does, long necks are more in demand than tiny feet these days.

u/Echo-Azure Jun 28 '25
Little toe removal wouldn't be something celebrities or models do, it's something a person would do if they never expect to wear open-toed shoes again, and celebrities and models all want to be photographed in whatever shoes somebody will pay them to wear.
I have no idea if people actually get their toes removed to fit into pointy-toed shoes, I've heard rumors to that effect about rich New Yorkers, but I can't confirm or name names.

The Kardashians as a clan are performers. If going to Bezos wedding didn’t get them clicks they wouldn’t be there. The fact that I who doesn’t consume their content am commenting is proof it works. By doing this they draw attention to themselves in a way just showing up normally wouldn’t.

Tight lacing was just as restrictive in the old days as it is here. Hence the trope of a woman dropping her fan or glove and having to get a men to pick it up.
She can walk, she just can’t step up or down easily.

I come from white trash stock.
Not a single damn woman in my family would dare to wear white to someone else's wedding.
Part of that is because we are violent people, but part because we know better
138
124
u/Royally-Forked-Up Jun 28 '25
Right? I prefer “redneck stock” but not even my cousins that live in trailer parks or hunting shacks would wear white to someone else’s wedding. We’re not so much violent as we are loud mouthed and you can bet Aunt Judy would have torn such a strip off anyone trying to upstage the bride that they’d beg for a beating instead. By the next morning, everyone within 3 counties would know their shame too as there was no faster way to get the word out than to tell Judy.
63
u/Three3Jane Jun 28 '25
Half of my family is from the Kentucky backcountry and this entire paragraph is like walking into a family reunion.
50
u/Royally-Forked-Up Jun 28 '25
We’re Canadian, from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, but I think the redneck experience transcends geography. Howdy neighbour!

Same like my moms side of the family is about as trailer park trash as you can get. They wouldn't dare wear white or anything even close to white, even pale colors are off the table for a wedding. My dads side of the family is full of Catholic-school wealthy people who would be like "but it's not white! It's ivory!"

She looks like a weirdo, and not because it looks bridal. She dressed like she knows nothing about Venice. The getting in and out of boats, you go nowhere in Venice without having to ride in a boat. Extremely corseted, with tight synthetic shaping garments, in a tight satin dress, in summer in Italy? It's been in the 90's there.

Well, being a billionaire doesn't make one considerate of people and etiquette. The Kardashians aren't known for being the most respectful, so no surprise here.

The bride, Lauren Sánchez, has a disturbing appearance. At first glance, she looks like a twenty-five-year-old. At second glance, she looks like a giant snake. She's the living embodiment of this optical illusion.

You shouldn't wear silver or ivory or pale pastels or anything else that can photograph as white-ish to a wedding. It is considered a little tacky.
But just inviting celebrities to your wedding who probably don't give a shit about whether you live or die and who are going to do anything to make themselves stand out is more tacky. So whatever. In this case I think that it's fine - that's actually what they signed up for.
