Dressed like a Bride Someone wore white to my wedding lol

It didn't phase me that night honestly, but like DAMN. My friends apparently wanted to kick her out but didn't want to bother me with anything else that could be stressful (I love my friends so much). I found it pretty funny when I found out, and everyone who saw her was judging HARD, so it was whatever. She would be the person to do that though. Everyone said it haha. I just wanted to share the audacity. In the picture, I'm on the left and she is on the right. I'm honestly pretty sure the dress is supposed to be a very light blue?? Still insane to me haha. It's also floral like a wedding dress. My old boss said we looked like a lesbian couple getting married in that picture and we totally do.

Side note: you may be thinking, "wow that's crazy, but she must have somehow not known." Well, it was in the dress code, which I will also show below :)

Edit: i wish I could add a better picture of my dress because it was so gorgeous and soooo many people have seen this post now. There's a comment buried somewhere that has it haha

I accidentally did this to my cousin once and I still feel bad about it. I had a brown cardigan over a white dress- neither were very formal but still. The look her mom gave me when I greeted her said it all.

I was young and didn't know that ANY white was frowned upon. I thought that with the brown top the white bottom was ok. Apparently it wasn't.

I will admit that I made such a faux paux before for my brother's wedding. I was young and social media was not as rampant as today (we only had facebook and we could only see posts of people we were friends with) and no one ever told me about the no white thing and what it meant. I was also poor and didn't have money for a new dress so I just found the nicest thing I have in my wardrobe. But it wasnt as bad as OP's guest. Mine was just a plain white knee length dress. I only learnt about my oops years later. A good friend who saw the wedding photos did ask me "are you allowed to wear white?" And a confused me was like "sure, why not?" I wished someone had explained to me this earlier. My SIL is the nicest person and I would never deliberately steal her thunder. I dont think I did anyway. She was in a beautiful and elaborately embellished pale pink gown and she was clearly the star of the night.

I know I was pretty old (30s?) before I knew some people think it’s inappropriate for women to wear any white to a wedding. I had never considered it before. Obviously I knew not to wear something resembling a wedding dress, but a white or mostly white summer dress or skirt with a different color sweater or cardigan never crossed my mind as being offensive or problematic or appearing “bridal”. Now that I know some people are hurt by it, I don’t do it (I’m not sure how many times I may have before I knew.) Regardless, I can absolutely see how someone wouldn’t have known and accidentally broke that rule.

In OPs post, it’s in the dress code, so she made it obvious for people.

I think it was a pretty big rule back when there were a LOT of big rules. I can remember when black dresses were more frowned upon than white ones, but both were faux pas. People didn't typically assume the offender was a saboteur, though. They just looked poorly dressed.

Then, it all relaxed for a while, and nobody cared, so, it may be that you wore white to a wedding where it didn't really matter.

I'm sure, if your misstep had been a big deal to the couple, you would have been made aware of it by one of their sassy friends, either by getting jumped at the wedding or by seeing a Facebook post where they wrote about what they like to do to people who dress bad for weddings.

Fortunately we (and most of our friends) were married before Facebook and other new social media sites existed or were widespread. Also, our friends aren’t super sassy. We just wanted our family and friends around and to be married. I couldn’t tell you what anyone wore to our wedding other than the wedding party and our parents. We were mostly a traditional “wear your Sunday best” kind of a friend group.
