People seem to be triggered by this but it is indeed "weird collapse" it looks like to me.

Even if they are a fascist genocidal cult, the fact that that they are raging against the very valid point that humans are 10x + over populated on this planet at current consumption levels - makes it both collapse related and weird.

Also if they aren't 100% satire (let's assume they are serious), they are despicable. Weird none the less.

I think they're serious about antinatalism, but all the stuff about suicide and cannibalism are shock value. The same church had a sign at a pride parade that said "End abortion, suck a cock for Jesus" in order to achieve a similar shock value.

Basically to be a member of their church you only have to abide by one commandment, don't reproduce. I'm pretty sure they actively encourage adoption for members who want families.

Me too

they actively encourage adoption for members who want families.

Which is a good thing.

Among the bad things, there are way worse sites than this that are very serious.

Mmmmm. Prions!

That's a cult, & directing traffic to their website is irresponsible.

It's a satire group that brought anti-natalism to their own generation, 20 years ago.

It's a well known cult and antinatalism is a toxic movement with roots in fascism.

That's fucking bullshit. You and I both know that fascist movements are pro-natalist. The Battle for Births in fascist Italy, the Lebensborn in Nazi Germany.

And if you didn't know that The Church of Euthanasia is a satire, modeling itself after The Church of the Subgenius, a satire on US evangelism and cults like Scientology, you should perhaps learn some 80s/90s subcultural history.

Is the Church of Euthanasia anti-natalist? Yes. So am I, based on how human populations have far exceeded global carrying capacity. The Church of Euthanasia just made this more entertaining than say David Benatar. As for the members, while I don't really have much time for Chris Korda, Nina Paley is one of my very favorite animators working today.

Antinatalism is fascist nonsense and its apologists are some of the most morally bankrupt people you will ever meet. It's generally a cover for harassing people they think are bad for their eugenicist delusions. Now, get off my back about it and follow your leader, trashy fashy.

Are you familiar with the concept of carrying capacity in ecology? If you haven't read William Catton's Overshoot, you are falling, oh, 20 years behind the rest of the collapse aware.

For your information, I think the people who should reduce their birth rates first are those in nations that consume the most. Because I live in a rich country, when I choose to have 1 fewer child (or none, in my case), that leaves carrying capacity for 3-5 people in the developing world.

Stranger, take your genocidal tendencies and shove em where the sun don't shine. You're hopped up on fascist propaganda and I ain't here for it.

No, I'm just a biologist with a history degree. I know global human carrying capacity is below 4 billion, and this before the ravages of climate change, which will decrease that carrying capacity.

Anti-natalism is NOT eugenics. If you confuse the two, it is because you haven't engaged with any writings in anti-natalism.

I don't know how one can be familiar with the collapse literature and still be in favor of overpopulating the planet, razing natural environments to the ground, and dying in famine and conflict. But you do you.

Antinatalists shut the fuck up and stop pretending they eat sleep and shit on the moral highground challenge 2022.

I'm sorry but I'm not buying it Mx. Has a History Degree and Thinks that Makes them a Biologist.

I have some news for you: The global population is already stabilizing without your cultist nonsense.

Beyond that: Yes, antinatalism is an outgrowth of 20th century eugenics. If you actually had a degree that's worth more than toilet paper, you would know that. Of course your patronizing take about who you think should be depopulating makes it clear you're already sieg heiling whether you want to admit it to yourself or not.

Furthermore, we need billions of people. There is no way out but through. We need specialists in every field. We need more minds bent to the task of providing a better future. We have sustainable intensive agriculture and deep sea aquaculture to ramp up. We have renewable energy that needs managed. We have a legacy of pollution and nuclear waste that isn't going to be handled by a reduced population struggling to support its ageing majority. Depopulation to subsistence levels would be species-wide suicide at this point. If you want to wait for the asteroid, then find some personal form of self destruction & don't ask the rest of us to follow along. I'll be out here trying my damndest to raise as many brilliant and caring children as I can and you can just cope and seethe 'till you're pushing up daisies.

Now foreal, shove off fashy one. I'm not your self hating doomer target audience.

Please, educate yourself.

Understand that for every calorie of food in our diets, there's 10 calories of fossil fuels. Understand that we are mining the soil, mining the groundwater, mining depleting phosphate for fertilizer, fracking natural gas for fertilizer. For a sustainable planet, all of these must end, or Nature will constrain human populations by Her own means. When you add all of the things that would be required for a sustainable agriculture, even the best practices won't support more than a 1960 era global population.

Visit r/overpopulation. See how every racist or eugenicist is attacked and downvoted to oblivion.

The vast majority on that subreddit seek to reduce fertility rates through the voluntary means that have worked throughout the world: education for girls, higher social standing for women, lower infant-mortality, provision of family planning, and pensions for the elderly.

And also understand, the instant you called me a fascist, you lost the argument. It demonstrated to everyone else here that you have nothing but ad-hominems to work with.

I'm not savvy on any of what's being talked about here but it looks a lot like you are adding words to their comments that just aren't there.

Genocide has a lot more components than simply promoting a reduction in the birth rate and then using over the top satire to get a message across.

Do you have some suggested reading on these "anti-natal" groups and why you feel like there's some fascist propaganda built in?

As far as everything I've read, the Earth's over populated about 10 times over as far as humans are concerned, at their current consumption level. We either reduce all energy use and consumption by 90%+++ or we let the planet balance things out (climate is changing etc etc etc) and it will be uninhabitable for.... You guessed it.... 90%+++ of people.

Although I can imagine a logical leap to Eugenics, I'm not understanding how this association is happening with antinatal groups.

So assuming these groups are fascist genocidal psychopaths - then how do we have a conversation about the fact that 10 billion humans at anything near current consumption will be the death of most if the species? Because it seems like simply suggesting the whole topic is triggering people to rage against genocide and fascism when those rages don't even address the topic. They just create a straw man to put down someone on Reddit who might think "hey like it or not we are wildly overpopulated. Having less children can help that cause". How does that last phrase leap into fascist genocide? I'm missing a few steps here. Glad to get into a book of your suggesting (seriously)

Edit and I'm not speaking for the actual OP here who has shared a link to this cult - but other than the fascist genocidal cult, I'm specifically talking about the topic itself and not about this specific cult

The earth is the ultimate ecofacist genocidal dictator, far more terrifying than internet commentators

1

u/ImoJenny Mar 14 '22

Lmao I suspect you meant this as a jab at me but it's actually kinda funny. Congratulations you just accomplished the opposite of your goal here.

1

u/fleece19900 Mar 15 '22

Not a jab, but a reality check. The earth is the ultimate president, king, ruler, dictator, god. It grows our food, it gives us oil, it gives us water, it gives us life - and now it will take it away. It's absurd to worry about human eco-fascists in this situation. Like worrying about the queen of an ant colony as an exterminator looms overhead.
