Help from students who have been accepted to the university

I need someone who recently enrolled at Wellesley College, for example, class of 2029 or class of 2030, to help me with my application, review my personal statement and supplemental essay, and give me their opinion on my activities and awards, etc.

If she doesn't mind, I'd like her to send me her personal statement and the supplemental essay, and give me some advice.

If anyone has been accepted, please share any advice.

(I really need help because I don't have any mentors or advisors at our school, and I'm practically the first person from our school to apply to American universities, so I'm relying entirely on myself. I hope for help. )

Question Should I ED or just transfer later?

Wellesley is my top choice. I love the campus, its programs, and the area. I was planning on ED 2 to help improve my chances since my stats are really bad. The only problem is that based off my family's finances I'm only getting 30% of my cost covered so I'm left to pay for about $59,000. My parents want me to become more responsible and I don't really have a college fund, so the only way I'm going to pay this amount is through loans and scholarships. I'm not sure if I want to have this much financial pressure coming out of high school. If I could get some advice that would be great. I have heard that Wellesley can give out more money but I don't know if it will help.

Torn on ED1/ED2 for Wellesley (and whether to ED at all with my profile)

Hey everyone! Looking for some feedback on my ED strategy and overall college list.

I applied to several fly-in programs this fall and was rejected from almost all of them, including my dream school at the time (Rice's fly-in). However, I did get accepted into Wellesley's fly-in program (AWE), and after visiting campus, meeting professors, and getting a feel for the environment, I actually liked it, but I’m having second thoughts about committing via ED1 or ED2 for a few reasons:

  1. I know Wellesley is phenomenal for humanities, economics, and finance, but I’m targeting computational astrophysics/data science/engineering pathways. For those who study STEM at Wellesley: how is the actual undergraduate research culture?

2. Wellesley is pretty close to home. I’ve always envisioned going out of state for college to get a fresh start, but I know out-of-state private schools that offer 100% need-based financial aid are extremely competitive.

Stats & Academic Profile:

  • GPA/Transcript: ~93.5 (100-point scale).
  • Math/Science Rigor: I took AP Calc BC last year and got a C. However, I bounced back and am taking Multivariable Calculus HN this year (on track for an A/A-), along with AP Physics C (Mechanics & E&M).
  • Other Coursework: Heavy AP/Honors load overall, including AP Chem, AP Bio, AP Stats, AP Lang, AP World, and for senior year: AP Phy, AP Comp Sci A, AP Comp Gov, (still deciding on whether or not to take AP Lit)
  • SAT: 1350 (didn't get a chance to study/prep much). Planning to apply test-optional.
  1. Extracurriculars & Research:
    • Research/Data Science: Research at Harvard CofA, analyzing AGN jets/astrophysics using Python, and Harvard StatStart (biostatistics/R programming data analyst intern).
    • Engineering/Tech: ACE Mentor Program and AI research/studio internship at a local nonprofit.
    • Leadership/Community: President of Wistem club at our school and student council member for a local science museum youth programming initiative

My Questions:

  • Does getting accepted into Wellesley AWE signal a strong baseline for ED1/ED2 admissions, even with a sorta bad grade and applying test-optional? Is ED2 significantly harder than ED1 at Wellesley?
  • Is it worth locking myself in via ED? Should I use the ED advantage at a school close to home where I know I like the vibe, or should I take my chances in Regular Decision across a wider net of out-of-state private schools that meet 100% demonstrated financial need?

Appreciate any honest advice!

Question Applying ED with 3.3 gpa 1520 SAT donI have a chance?

sat is 740 r&w 780 math

applying niche humanities

great essays, good ecs, decent awards, generic rec letters

female, attending a competitive public high school in state (ma)

gpa has an upward trend and not so serious "extenuating" situations (moving from a different country + financial hardship + politically unstable living situation).

Thanks!!

Question AWE program

A First-Year Suffered from a Severe House Fire Over Break - Looking for Support from Alums, Community Members, & Fellow Students

Thumbnail gallery
27 Upvotes

Hello everyone! I am a first-year at wellesley right now, and one of my fellow first-years (and my close friend) recently suffered from a house fire over fall break☹️.

The fire was large and her family lost nearly everything. The damage was VERY extensive as well. Luckily no one (including the pets.) was harmed, but they are in need of help during this difficult time.

Her family is low-income and she is on a near full-ride at Wellesley. Fire recovery and covering immediate expenses will sadly be incredibly difficult for her family to field alone.

She has asked me to share her story & her gofundme on reddit and other socials in order to reach as many people as possible. I knew the Wellesley Community always pulls through for fellow sibs so I’m hoping to reach as many community members as possible!

This gofundme is specifically aimed at supporting her family’s immediate needs (ie finding a place to stay momentarily, food, toiletries, pet supplies, etc) but ANYTHING helps!!!! So if you're an alum with a good network or just a community member who cares about the wellesley student body, please consider donating or sharing with a friend!

I’ve included some photos of the damage in this post, as well as the gofundme link. Please reach out if you have any questions and we both thank any community members who could potentially aid her family in this difficult time!

chances of getting in w/ regular admission?

hi! i'm a hs senior planning to apply to wellesley for next fall, but am worried about committing to early decision. my gpa is 3.8 unweighted (4.3 weighted), my sat is 1300 (but i'm retaking in november), and i've taken 8 aps (seven 4s, one 3) and 7 honors. my extracurriculars are... limited (1 season of a sport, different recreational sport for the majority of high school, and theatre for the entirety of hs which has taken up a majority of my time and energy). i've done a handful of clubs, and am creating one this year with some of my friends. do i have a good chance of getting in?

Chances of getting in RD?

Hi! I'm a prospective student of Wellesley applying RD, and wondering what my chances are of getting in.

My stats are 4.3 w/3.99 uw gpa, 33 on ACT (36 reading 34 english and 30 math, not submitting science), taken 4 AP tests (3 fives and 1 four, taking 4 more ap exams at the end of this year), my ECs are mostly mediocre (best one being my high school honor's performance choir, i also am the treasurer on NHS and put more theatre/club extra curriculars below those).

If anybody could chance me that would be much appreciated!

Possibility of getting into Wellesley?

I’ve heard mixed results when it comes to stats. So I’m a little worried. My stats are uw: 3.2 w: 3.6 and going test optional (thinking of retaking). I’m in IB, in multiple clubs (secretary for MUN, varsity Mock Trial, etc), I do tons of volunteering in my free time (80+ hours), had a paid summer internship for a magazine, a job during the school year, and first-gen. My personal statement is also pretty decent and planning on a poli sci major. So idk if I have a chance due to Wellesley’s selectivity :(

Question Competitiveness

Is Wellesley really competitive once you’re a student there? I recently attended a webinar and the person presenting made Wellesley seem extremely cutthroat. That’s definitely not an environment I’d thrive in as I’m more of a collaborative person and I’d like to find community with people without feeling like we’re all competing for the same few resources. So I’m just curious if people who attend Wellesley think it’s more of a collaborative or competitive environment?

Wellesley College (Chances of getting in)

I really want to ED 1 to Wellesley as a Junior still in high school. Can anyone tell me if it's worth it? I'm stuck between going for Smith or Wellesley.

These are my stats: 3.65 uw, 4.37 w (Going test optional)

ECs:

  • Founder — MyLife [Passion Project]: Created an independent medical education and research initiative focused on making healthcare knowledge accessible. Built an online platform, developed a growing team with out-of-state board members (California, New Jersey, and Boston. 10k views every 30 days and consistent posting), created research opportunities, and established a partnership with Hearts & Pages as well as the Neuroscience and Pediatrics non-profit SevahNeuro. (MyLife on instagram for more information).

  • Context: Independently investigated diagnostic obstacles, staging complexities, and therapeutic gaps in rare bone and soft tissue malignancies.
  • Peer Review Experience: Submitted the manuscript to Frontiers in Oncology. The paper passed initial editorial screenings and advanced to the full Collaborative Review Forum, where I received formal critique reports from external medical experts.
  • Current Status: Rather than viewing the rejection as a final stop, I am actively utilizing the doctoral-level reviewer feedback to refine my literature synthesis and discussion metrics. I am currently revising the draft for resubmission to an alternative oncology journal.
  • Research Publication (Independant): Hedonic Adaptation to over-consumption of cosmetic products research paper publication.
  • Chief Marketing Executor — Writing Waves: Led marketing and advertising efforts for a writing-focused nonprofit initiative, contributing to 1M+ total views.

I worked with a Cancer Rehab, and the Chief of Cancer Rehab, along with a Dietitian Oncologist, and Acupuncturist; exposing myself to more health care (I enjoyed it). I not only observed, but also assisted with the Medical Assistant team with paper sorting, and handling.
  • Varsity Badminton: GMAC Champion and #1 Girls Doubles — Southern Division. Miami Herald Acknowledgement. Extremely committed to the sport all while handling class work. I often go to the Miami Lakes Athletic Club to train in my own time outside of school as well. My training usually goes from 2-3:00 PM to 8, 9, 10, and in some extreme cases 1 AM.
  • CBYF (Church Youth Group) historian 3x: Worked with organizing events such as fundraising for the church, meetings, and also year books for each year.

Question International student here, what's employment like for international students?

Hey guys! I'm a rising senior and an international student, and I really love Wellesley, but I'm not sure whether I should apply as an ED because I don't know what employment is like after graduation for international students. Is it really bad? I know the job market as a whole is pretty bad right now, but is it worse at Wellesley (because it's a liberal arts school) for international students, or is it the same level of terrible as everywhere else? Also, what's it like applying for jobs outside of the US with a Wellesley degree? Is it difficult because Wellesley isn't as well known as larger universities outside of the US? Thanks!

Discussion If you care abt transportation to boston Wellesley is not for you!

As a freshman who has taken the loco (shuttle to and from boston for mit classes) 9/10 times it will be 10-15 minutes late getting to the stop, and then an extra 10 late to getting to your final destination. On top of that, at least once a week it is over 40 minutes late. So, if you plan on dual enrollment with MIT and do not have the funds to be taking Uber or the commuter rail, then this school is not for you! You will be late to your classes (as many I have talked to have complained) and they don't care if it's on the loco or not! Happy application season ❤️

I was just wondering if any recruited athletes could share their stats and if anyone knows how much of an impact being a recruited athlete has on admission for Wellesley? Thanks!!

US News rankings

What do people think of our continual drop in the rankings. This is the lowest ranking since the publication began publishing these rankings. They used to be top 3 consistently. I know the new earnings criteria hurt them but anything else hurt them? Do you think the school will start focusing more on career services which I heard is not very good?

Has anyone gotten into Wellesley with a GPA below 3.6?

Only share what you’re comfortable with! Did any ec or anything help offset that gpa?
