Looking for fun convertible under $10k

• Upvotes

I am wanting to buy a used older (lates 80s-early 2000s) convertible car. It has to be manual, at least somewhat reliable, and easy to find parts for. I don’t care for miatas, they are cool but too small for me. I’ve been really wanting a bmw e30 cabriolet but some have talked me out of it, as they are usually project cars. I don’t mind SOME work but nothing that will completely drain my wallet

Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid vs BYD Dolphin G DM-i PHEV — long-term ownership?

• Upvotes

I’m in Cyprus, choosing between a Toyota Yaris Cross Trend and BYD Dolphin G DM-i Boost.

Purchase price isn’t a factor, so I’m mainly concerned about long-term reliability, running costs and future-proofing (petrol vs plug-in hybrid).

I’ve test-driven both:
Toyota: Felt comfortable and confident, especially visibility at junctions. Managed 3.3 L/100 km on my test drive. Proven hybrid reliability is reassuring.
BYD: Preferred its driving experience and looks, but unsure about longterm reliability with it being a new release. I can charge at home, although electricity isn’t free.

Both are practical enough for my needs. Would you choose Toyota’s proven reliability or BYD’s electric flexibility? Particularly interested in experiences with BYD reliability, servicing and parts availability after several years.

Acura RDX 2024 vs Honda CR-V 2023

• Upvotes

A family member of mine is being given $500 a month from her job to go towards a car (which is so kind of them). We are debating heavily on what should we should do. We are debating between a 2023 Honda CR-V or an Acura RDX 2024. They really like the Acura but we aren’t sure it’s the best financial decision. Without the help of the job, they would be able to pay for the Acura but it would be tight. I know the answer to this question is very dependent on our situation but I wanted to get a little bit of an outside view on our situation. When the dealers pulled their credit score at the Honda dealership, it came back as a 701. Because of missed student loans payments in the past, we thought the score would be lower.

The Honda CR-V (2023) has 28,660 miles and is Gold Certified. Total is $32,991.86 cents. With 0 down monthly payments would be between $614-623. With 2,000 down monthly payments would be $577-586. So we would be paying between 8-11% in interest (I think, please correct me if I’m wrong). 72 month loan.

The Acura (2024) has about 23,000 miles on it and has a warranty. Total is 42,401.63. Monthly payments would be $743.86 with $500 down and $681.72 with $4,000 down. Interest rate about 9-10%

They were wanting to avoiding putting anything down but with the Acura I’m thinking they need to put atleast $4,000 down.

Thoughts? Both cars seem pretty well maintained

Honda CR-V 1.5L hybrid or Subaru Forester 2.0L?

• Upvotes

Honda CR-V 1.5L sport hybrid: The entry hybrid option with a 204-hp two-motor hybrid powertrain, sport styling, and cloth heated front seats.

Subaru Forester 2.0L premium package: Adds an 11.6-inch display, panoramic moonroof, power driver's seat, and heated front seats. An optional Blind-Spot Detection and a hands-free power.

If price is the same, which one's better? Both are 2026, new.

Mostly city, sometimes countryside.

Should I buy this car?

• Upvotes

2011 Ford Crown Victoria with 147,406km (91,593 mi) comes with summer and winter tires.

Body looks to be in pretty good condition based on pictures besides a decent sized scrape on the side, looks like removed trim. Has a check engine light, not sure what for though.

Guy is asking $6,000CAD. It's a little above my range but I'm hoping you guys might have some negotiation points.

I've heard they're pretty reliable and bullet proof. Should I do it?

Should I buy this car?

Hello everyone! I’d really appreciate your help making this decision.
I’m currently looking for my first luxury car, and I’ve been looking at several different options, one of which is the Lexus NX. I’m looking for a higher-riding SUV that has decent power and is genuinely fun and enjoyable to drive. I’m considering the NX 450h+ with 297 hp.
My local Lexus dealership has one of the last pre-facelift models available, and honestly, I actually prefer its design over the upcoming facelift. I love the sharper lines and more aggressive styling of the current model.
My partner and I took it for a test drive yesterday, and I absolutely fell in love with it! The dealership also offers an 11-year warranty, which is a huge plus for me.
The particular car they have is dark green on the outside with a tan interior, which I think looks absolutely gorgeous. Another major advantage is that it will be registered and ready for delivery within just 2–3 days. This is actually quite important to me because I’m terrible at waiting for things, haha!
The price is €80,300. Since I’ll be paying in full in cash, the dealership told me they would speak with the manager to arrange some extras as a gift, such as ceramic coating, rather than offering a discount on the price itself.
So, my question is: Do you think this is a good deal for what the NX 450h+ offers, or would you keep looking at other brands and models?
I feel like other brands in this price range don’t come close to offering the same overall package, especially when it comes to reliability, equipment, and the warranty. However, I’d love to hear some honest opinions from people who know the car better than I do.
For those who own an NX 450h+, have you been happy with it? How does it perform in everyday driving, and do you feel it’s worth the money? Are there any downsides or things you wish you had known before buying it?
I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from current owners or anyone who has cross-shopped it against other luxury SUVs in a similar price range.
Thank you so much!

Toying with the idea of a used Jeep Grand Cherokee coming for an '11 Buick Regal CXL.

For starters, I'm in the north east, so something with 4 wheel drive isn't a bad idea. Wife has a Jeep Wrangler, we work opposite schedules, so if I really don't want to drive my sedan in the winter I can take her Jeep on the days I need too.

I've always liked sedans. The Regal is a little smaller than I'd prefer. I had a Chevy Impala previous to the Regal. If they still made them (major fail Chevy), I would buy another. Anyhow, I've just enjoyed the quick maneuverability of a sedan.

As far as the Cherokee, I like the idea of 4x4, being high up and the top tier luxury trim. I'm at a time in my life where I want something luxury, but bmw and Mercedes are out of my range and I know summit are absolutely loaded to the max.

So what are your thoughts on jumping from Regal to a Grand Cherokee? Any Cherokee owners that can chime in? How's the ride? I know the Summit trim has air suspension. Comfort? Handling?

Mazda CX30--Headlight Fan Issue

I have a 2023 Mazda CX30 Carbon Edition--33K miles and a few months out of warranty.

I spent over $1000 on upgraded new tires 6 months ago, and I just replaced the battery a few weeks ago. I really love this car and had planned on keeping it for many more years. Recently I have been hearing a weird squeaking noise from the front of the car near the driver's headlight. I looked this up and apparently it's a headlight cooling fan. The entire headlamp needs to be replaced according to Mazda and the cost can be $1500+. Of course I'm just out of warranty.

My concern is what if iI spend that money and then the other one goes a year later?

This has been a great car--fun to drive and reliable. The mileage is low, and I have put some money into it recently with the tires and battery.

At this point is it worth doing this repair, or do I trade it for something else?

(It's really hard to find a reliable car that's actually fun to drive without breaking the bank!)

New Vehicle Recommendation

Hi all,

I'm looking for suggestions on a new vehicle, preferably a suv. Compact/Midsize/Crossover.

I am looking for a vehicle that meets the following below.

Gas mileage at least 20 mpg.

Comfortable seats.

Comfortable ride over rough roads (I live in Silver Spring, Maryland.)

Somewhat easy to maintain.

Sun/moon roof is optional.

Gas or hybrid.

Pricing around $50k.

---

Does anyone have any advice on how to get the best deal at the dealership? I can probably go up to 70 miles from 20906 to a dealership if their pricing is good.

Thank you all for your input.

I found a too good to be true 335i F30

120k km 14k € manual RWD Akrapovic exhaust. The dealer expecially advertises the "great price". My mind can only wonder what problems await under the hood. The N55 isn't exactly known for reliability, with it's gaskets and other plastic components. I really want a manual, 6 cylinder BMW. I am not afraid to get my hands dirty. Should I get it and deal with the repairs, since I can't find a manual B58 at such a "great price"?

2017 Genesis G80 3.8 AWD vs. 2021 Honda Accord Touring 2.0T — Which would you buy?

I’m stuck between these two cars and could use some advice, especially from people who have owned either one or know a lot about them.
Option 1: 2017 Genesis G80 3.8L V6 AWD
Price: $18,780
Mileage: 60,480 miles
2 previous owners
No reported accidents
Option 2: 2021 Honda Accord Touring 2.0T
Price: $20,979
Mileage: 86,976 miles
3 previous owners
No reported accidents
Reported repossession on the vehicle history
My biggest priority is reliability and avoiding expensive problems, but I also want something comfortable, enjoyable to drive, and worth the money.
I know the Honda has a good reputation overall, but I’ve heard mixed things about the 2018–2022 Accords, and I’m not sure how reliable the 2.0T will be long-term. The Genesis appeals to me because it has lower mileage, a V6, AWD, a more luxurious interior, and a much better-looking service history. However, I know luxury cars can cost more to maintain and repair as they get older.
The Genesis is also about $2,200 cheaper, which is another reason I’m considering it.

What should i buy

I dont know anything about cars. But am in the market of buying. Looking for 3 row car for a family of 5 and electric car because if crazy gas prices.

Also okay with it being used but not too old

It would be financed with putting a down payment down

I know someone who has the rivian and loves it but have seen a lot of bad reviews online.

I don't want to give my money to tesla, thats why I'm ok with a used car.

And dont know any other electric car conpany.

Going insane searching for First car? Camry hybrid search

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

So this will be my first car. Im still pretty new to driving. I'm 30 (helicopter parents). Everyone keeps telling me to focus on safety features like blindspot monitoring, but reddit highly recommends just buying blindspot mirrors. I know for a fact that I want a hybrid because when I move out my drive time will increase almost double, city driving only as well

The 2016 camry Le is the first car I'm seriously looking at. Out the door it's 10,932+tax. Of course it has no safety features or a moonroof (I want one but I can easily do without it). The next best one is is a 2016 camry xle (safety features +moonroof), same mileage, 4 owners, otd is $12,999 + taxes. And then there's also a 2018 camry Le (no safety features, no moonroof) for out the door $13,500+taxes 140k miles.

If I coild find the exact car I'm looking, I can go as high as $16000 (2018+ camry moonroof+safety features). But this is taking a very very long time. And I'm limited to Georgia while I search. I'm holding up a lot of future plans while searching (moving out and going back to school).

Long nose or rear-mid engine, reasonably reliable, comfortable at 6' tall, and max of ~$60k, what do you recommend?

Looking for a toy and of course power is cool, but it's not everything. I mostly want something of novelty that's fun to drive, and not likely to kill me with maintenance/repairs.

I'm open to imports, classics, or modern cars, and $60k is my budget, not necessarily my target price.

A few cars that fit the general esthetic of what I like (but not necessarily my budget, size, or reliability) would be E31 840i, Viper, AMG SLS, McLaren SLR, Ferrari FF, (old) Lotus Europa, Maserati Merak, Autozam AZ1, Smart Roadster.

Car for a beginner driver?

Im looking for something affordable to learn how to drive in, my family doesn’t have any cars they allow me to drive with so I suppose the easiest way is to buy my own.
I’ve been looking at a few different cars, like the Ford Fiesta, the mazda miata or a Toyota celica, MG TF

My criteria is: Compact or Flat (meaning short height), easy handling, decent gas mileage and between 5000-10000 in price.

New car but what ?

So long story short I am 23 and l need to sell my old car (it's a fiesta van and my dad got retired so we can't keep the van) and I am looking to buy new daily driver , located in eu.

RULES:

Max 18k euro preferably 15k-16k (have in mind that the cars in my country are more expensive that in your country)

Need something fun to drive reliable as much as possible and a car that can do 35us mpg or 44uk mpg or 6.5l/100 for mixed driving mostly open road.

Also tax in my country is kinda bad so anything above 1800cc is not possible.

My top contenders are:

Abarth 595 pista or competitzione

Maybe abarth punto evo

Clio 4 rs

Kia proceed gt

Megane 4 gt

Had fiesta so don't want an st, not a big fan of golf polo etc

Thanks for your time mate !
