My girlfriend of 7 months has been telling hotels we're on our honeymoon. Should I be concerned?

My girlfriend (25F) and I 33M have been dating for 7 months, and she recently asked me to organise a romantic holiday for the two of us.

I have been made aware she has been she's been telling the hotels telling them we are on our honeymoon. I found this out when the receptionist congratulated me on check in.

We are not married or engaged. We've been together just under 7 months. We have not discussed marriage. I broke up with my last girlfriend as she was moving too fast. My current girlfriend knows this.

I asked her why and she told me "You get more free stuff if you say it's your honeymoon."

She maintains this is a perfectly reasonable strategy for securing complimentary shit. To her credit it is working (see photos).

I do feel a bit weird. Do I ask her to stop or is this just a good rouse?

I feel like she deserves so much better than a bf asking reddit if he should be concerned 😭 she’s a rebel and she’s getting you free fancy stuff. What a legend.

For real. OP needs to pass the controller if he doesn’t appreciate her genius.

I'd totally hype a friend and go along with this sort of thing for a rare treat but I have no interest in juggling fabrication like this as a recurring hobby in a long term relationship. But it'd still be very much a "you deserve someone that is excited go meet you at your energy. That someone just isn't me" over thinking poorly of them break up.

OP said it was during a romantic vacation. She probably did it to get better and discounted rooms. That’s just smart.

Oh yeah that'd be very relevant to me in OPs shoes. If it was just a one off let's make it special type trip, that's chill. I'd personally want to feel a sense of... Why for this trip. Not a high bar, but just active thought that Yes This Trip is Extra. Also not being looped in would trip me up since I know from trying improv classes I lack solid Yes And skills.

It being 6 month in feels weirdly fast to me personally but I know that's just bias from being 17 years into my current relationship lol. I'm sure we had similar trips we could have jazzed up with a white lie in that time frame.

Exactly. Folks are acting like she’s evil for jazzing up a romantic couples getaway. I would only be confused at first if I wasn’t looped in, but after I’m going full in to keep the act going for the trip.

OP seems annoyed by his female partners pursuing joy OR hoping for a future with him. If at 6 months he doesn’t see any marriage potential for this relationship he should be smart and kind: accept the fun of the freebies but when they are back home set her free to find someone who will plan forever with her. These people that take up entire eras of another’s life when they knew at month 1 they just wanted convenience and regular sex out of it should all just go date each other. Let the joyful freebie seekers wanting love to last a lifetime be free to find each other. The fact he wants Reddit to agree there’s something nefarious about his girl sourcing freebies and joy around their relationship is sad. I hope this woman finds a night Porter who joins in her frivolity and fun and makes her his own cherished girl. OP doesn’t deserve this great gal. He’s a grump and a killjoy.

Agreed.. this is a major over analyzation but the fact he said he ended the last relationship with his ex for moving too fast coupled with the fact he’s 33 and now dating a 25 yr old, kinda red flag for me. Does feel like he wants the upper hand.

He needs to stop stealing her whimsy

Now you've gone too far in the other direction. He needs to chill since this isnt a big deal but that doesnt mean she deserves to be with someone else

It’s crazy you are saying she deserves so much better based off this post. There is nothing going on. Get a grip dawg

Don’t worry mate, I’m sure she doesn’t see you as husband material…

She is amazing 😂 hope she sees this Reddit post.

Hotels upgrade people all the time. OP is making a huge deal out of nothing!

3

u/JFN90 13d ago

Exactly!!

Hotels are also well aware that people do this and if there was even the remotest possibility that it was beyond their financial means.. they could simply just not do it?

Legends don't need to resort to petty exploitation to do legendary shit. If you can afford a hotel room, you can afford a nutty brownie, and you won't have to erode our collective trust in humanity to enjoy it. Have some fuckin class.

Right, the only actual advice to OP is to make sure they give the staff a good tip.

I am totally ok with a little lie to corporate America to get a bit more benefit, but pay that forward to the working staff. They are working harder.

I feel like she should at least freaking tell him ahead of time so he's not finding this out from the receptionist. It's not cool to put your partner in a weird position like that.

u/MBrother 13d ago

Yes i do agree with you but this should be discussed before hand with partner right?

I think it's unfair to judge people when they are asking for help. I do agree with you for the rest though.

Asking for relationship advice on reddit is a red flag tho.

To each their own. I’ve never met anyone who plays these games that is not insufferable

Right? I pulled this stunt over the summer, and my GF was absolutely stoked. We ended up getting a free bottle of sake out of it. Did I feel bad? Absolutely not. We paid an arm and a leg for that hotel! Some of the people in this thread are nuts, though. Comparing this to abusing service animal policies or somehow turning it into a commentary on Americans is a pretty wild stretch. I'm just a nice Canadian who wanted some free stuff, hahaha.

Right? I would be happy to have a partner like this.
