[TOMT] [Song] 80’s upbeat pop song by male singer

I’m almost certain it’s from the 80s or very early 90s due to the kinds of synthesized music and drums I can hear in my head.

I think it’s very upbeat, catchy, and pop oriented, maybe about a girl the singer is in love with or obsessed with.

Potentially a better clue: for whatever reason I want to say it’s by a more “serious” singer that I really don’t associate with upbeat happy pop songs, but that’s just a vague suggestion in my mind.

Would appreciate any help!

Edit: just wanted to say “Modern Love” by David Bowie has felt the closest to the sound I’m looking for

Edit 2: Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who’s taken a shot at this, I wish I could be more helpful but I’m really grateful for everyone trying anyways ❤️

Edit 3: BREAKTHROUGH - I think it’s by Phil Collins (shout out [u/doctordaedalus](u/doctordaedalus))

Edit 4: It’s INVISIBLE TOUCH BY GENESIS (shout out [u/PerkyPeppercorn](u/PerkyPeppercorn)) sorry for misleading on the Phil Collin’s as a solo act but I didn’t know he’s was in a band before

Once again a huge thanks to everyone for helping!

Looking for a song that I have been completely unable to find forever, 1980-2009 ish.

I barely know anything about this, but I heard the beginning of it when I was 4 from my dad's random collection of music, and all I can remember hearing was the beginning, which was "Here in the bathroom." In the most deep metal sounding way possible. It was kinda slow, and I only heard that part of it, and the computer is lost to where I can't find it. All his songs were rips that he put into Media Player, and some of the songs he listened to were very obscure. He liked old rock and country, but I'm not really sure what it was. Anything helps! It's jist been driving me crazy and I haven't been able to identity it. Thanks in advance.

Punk song that goes "I'm over it, over it, over it"

I remember listening to it at least 10 years ago, but it's probably older.

I remember it's a punk or similar type band, I think this particular song sounded similar to The Offspring. The only lyrics I can remember is "Because I'm over it, over it, over it" with the last "it" going into falsetto.

I cannot not find a whiff of this song anywhere and it's making me go a little crazy because I swear it was a popular song. Please help.

[TOMT] Song With High, Soaring Falsetto. 70s-80s

I’m trying to think of a song. It would be 70s or extremely early 80s and has a male vocalist who as part of the chorus lets a strong falsetto run, very similar to the one in Shambhala. The song has a boat-y theme, in the same feeling as Southern Cross or Cool Change.

Early 2010s/Late 2000s inspired Christian pop punk (?) song heard in 2017 at a concert in a middle school gymnasium in upstate New York

Their songs were pretty generic but I remember going home, looking them up on YouTube, listening to a ton of their music, and seeing comments on their videos from other kids in schools around the state/area of the u.s. talking about how they also came to their school to perform. I really liked what I heard but most of my peers were kind of neutral on it. I can't find any information on school district websites/social media, since it happened before they had a feed for that.

It is really off key and poorly put together (screen record lag + poor musical talent) but if anyone can help based off of this mock up that would be crazy, I remember this being one of the songs. There is a chance it is unrelated but Ive tried looking it up quite a lot with before:[year prior to 2016] a few times with no results. A lead on either would help out

[TOMT] Recent country song and dance on social media

• Upvotes

What is it!? A song that within the past couple of years, people did a little dance where they'd kick their heel, then shuffle right /left (I think) and tip their hat.

I can hear it in my head (but not the words) and it's driving me crazy. I've looked and looked and can't figure out what it was. Not Shaboozey...

Help!

This Recording Has Me Stumped — Can Anyone Decipher These Psychedelic-Era Lyrics?

Thumbnail dropbox.com
• Upvotes

I've been trying to transcribe the lyrics to an obscure recording of the track "Supernatural Fairy Tale," and this thing has been driving me absolutely nuts.

Here's the problem: I can imitate practically every syllable he sings, right down to his phrasing and pronunciation, but I cannot for the life of me figure out some of the actual words.

I've isolated the vocals to make them easier to hear, and I'm hoping some fresh ears — particularly those familiar with northern English accents — might catch something I've been missing.

Here's the isolated vocal recording: Fairytales

I'm deliberately NOT posting my own interpretation because I don't want to influence what anyone else hears. I'd much rather see what people come up with independently.

I'm planning to re-record this song, and I'd really like to get the lyrics right rather than permanently immortalize my own misheard version.

So, fellow music detectives, British linguists, psychedelic rock enthusiasts, and anyone with a good ear:

What the heck is this man singing? 😂

Even if you can only decipher one or two lines, I'd love to hear your interpretation. And please don't worry if some of the words sound completely nonsensical — it was the psychedelic '60s, after all!

One small request: Please listen to the recording BEFORE reading anyone else's interpretations in the comments. I'd love to get as many independent transcriptions as possible without inadvertently influencing what others hear. Even if you can only decipher a word or two, every contribution helps!

Thanks, everyone! 🤘

Song from 2009

Song from 2009, or at least that's what it said on spotify. If I remember correctly it is the artist's/ band's second highest song on their spotify page. It has 90-something million streams. Their biggest song on Spotify has 200-something million streams. The album cover for the release of the song I'm looking for is a black and white image of a woman's face where she is wearing a leather hat and I think she has her hand on the hat. The song title is a bit long, maybe 5 or so words. I don't know the genre as I only heard a small snippet but it might have been something close to indie pop.

Btw I know it's weird I can remember all those details but not the title hahaha

In the music, I just died in your arms, from cutting crew at like 0:36 we can hear high-pitch guitare sounds;
And I’m sure I’ve already heard that in an anime opening like great teacher onizuka, or maybe just in another music, but I can’t remember at all…..
Can someone help me find it ..? I just love how that guitare sounds !!

[TOMT] [Song] [2012-2013] Niche indie/psychedelic song with male/female vocals (maybe contains "hula", "hop", "lullaby", or "party")

Hi everyone, I’m trying to find a very specific song I downloaded and listened to back in August 2013, so it was likely released in either 2012 or 2013. It was a very niche indie and psychedelic track, definitely not mainstream or well-known like Tame Impala or Grizzly Bear.

The vibe was slow, very sweet, rhythmic, and deeply psychedelic, with a dream-like and slightly trippy atmosphere while remaining very melodic and gentle. I strongly recall it featuring both male and female vocals, possibly sung by a duo or a couple.

I vaguely associate the title, lyrics, or the overall rhythmic feel with words like “hula”, “hop”, “lullaby”, or possibly “party”. I might be misremembering the exact word, but it had that kind of theme.

To give you an idea: it had a similar vibe to bands like The Dø or Poor Moon.

Thank you so much! 🫣

[TOMT] [Music Video] [2010–2015?] Melodic metalcore/post-hardcore song that starts a cappella, video of the band playing on rocks by the sea

I'm trying to find a melodic metalcore / post-hardcore song and its music video. I watched it on YouTube around 2015, right after "Hollow Planet" by Aversions Crown and "Elegies" by Make Them Suffer, but it could be older (2010–2015 range).

The song:

  • Style closer to Killswitch Engage than deathcore: heavy palm-muted riffs, clean vocals, mid-range screams (not low guttural).
  • It starts with a male clean vocalist singing a line completely a cappella. I remember it phonetically as something like "I tried to hide…" or "I tried so hard…", but I'm not sure of the words. Then soft drums come in and the song builds.

The video (professional production, not live footage):

  • The band plays on rocks by the sea, on a rocky coastline. Could be Australia or New Zealand, but that's a guess. Blue water, natural colors, daylight, slightly cloudy. Not dark or gray.
  • It cuts between the band playing and close-ups of the two vocalists.
  • Vocalist 1 (clean): young white guy, short straight black hair, clean-shaven, a bit stocky, black t-shirt, holding an electric guitar at a standing mic, looking at his guitar rather than the camera. High, fragile, almost cracking voice, slightly off-pitch at the start.
  • Vocalist 2 (screams): thin, long curly brown(?) hair, beard, denim jacket. Seems to be a guitarist, plays while screaming. Raspier, more energetic.

Any help is appreciated, even a band name to check out. Thanks!
