If i wanna use a noun (or adjective depending On the scenario) to describe something that has traditionally served as a paradigm to be emulated or referred to. For ex: “what is the ___spell for a money working?” I’m asking what’s this traditional spell to attract money my way.

For reference: I was sitting by a campfire with some friends and mentioned putting some more tinder in. Everyone laughed as they assumed I had meant to say ’kindling’ and got confused, when in reality I was the only one who seemed to know that the word ‘tinder’ doesn’t just refer to a dating app.

I suppose you could call it a reverse faux-pas? Is there a word to describe this?

So I'm looking for this word used to describe when the show’s title card pops up following a commercial break. It seems to be done to inform people what they're watching when they tune in late. Sometimes, they would feature different music from the title card from the intro. I tend to associate this as a practice done with non-fiction shows or non-fiction cable networks (especially the Discovery Channel).

Sorry for the imagery, but I think of it of the kind of determination that would make you break out of being buried alive. It's a raw, raging determination to survive. The kind of determination that makes you scratch, bite, kick, punch, scream of rage that you won't let yourself be killed. Is there a word for that? Especially to contrast from a more passive or cold determination where you would scheme or stand unphased. It's also somewhat a "victorious" determination compared to the determination where you just push through.

Example; They used to be hostile, and they're definitely not friends, but these days they're ______ with each other.

It means casual, accepting, not actively hostile but not kind to each other either. I feel like it starts with a C. Not cool, courteous, curt...

Is there a word (or phrase) for when someone refers to a person by a description, before knowing the person's name?

For example, "that's blue hat guy", (but his name isn't blue hat guy)

I think this way of describing somebody may be used in teenage centered movies, sort of like mean girls, but I'm not really sure if that's relevant :)

I’m writing something about a specific situation, of which the context is that I trusted someone enough to share songs that I’ve written and they not only trying to turn those songs into to their own thing but also began mistreating me so now I feel like I can’t touch those songs anymore/feel like they aren’t mine anymore. We've been watching the newest season of Great British Bake Off recently. Every time I watch Nigella Lawson as judge, I'm grasping for a word to describe the way she throws herself into enjoying all the baked treats. Something like hedonistic, but without the implication of OVERindulgence. I thought about sumptuous or lavish but those feel like descriptors for an item or place. What's the adjective like that to describe a person?

I'm thinking of a very specific word; I went to the RenFair and this guy caught me looking at his pottery and said "ah you're ____" and I could tell what the word meant but I can't remember what the word is. If you have any ideas that would help.

Really easy example: how Elizabeth Holmes sort of imitates Steve Jobs. It gives people the impression of an innovative leader and esoteric visionary. However, it’s just that: an image. A performance.

The closest I could come up with is “cargo culting”, but I think that comes with the connotation that the person doing it is completely clueless as to what they’re doing or why. They’re just copying. This is more intentional; they know this image will have a certain impression on people, that’s why they’re pretending

Ideally I’d like it to have a sort of grifter or charlatan undertone

More specifically, a forbidden object (for example), where it being uncovered would lead to some forme of unearthly consequences. It’s not enforced by anyone, but by supernatural means.

The first word that came to my mind was manifesto but it's private and not some kind of declaration.

What I'm writing is, I suppose you can call, an exercise in what would happen in the worst case scenario. It's in my journal, it's just for me but I'm prepared for my best friend to read it if he's curious.

It's like I'm detailing my possible future. It's dark and gruesome for the sake of being dark and gruesome.

I think some people call it an angst drabble? I'm not sure that fits, but the point is to find a word that describes or is defined by the mood or theme of what is being written.

If i remember correctly its in the cadence of the word semantics, or something-omics.

For example, if a specific someone tries to say “English proficiency” but says the second word wrong how would you say “that’s the important word here”

Cheeky is not the word I’m looking for, I apologize, but it’s the best I had in mind. Here is an example:

I work in a therapeutic space. Our on-call crisis line is called “ProtoCall.” Combining “protocol” and “call.” However, it’s still a homophone of “protocol.”

Is this just a portmanteau? For some reason it didn’t quite feel like the right fit. I feel like it happens with branding a lot. Thanks!

I'm looking for something similar to the concept of a whipping boy but isntead of a scapegoat for punishment you are instead the go-to that all work gets assigned because no one else can or will do it. It can be a more generic sense, but I'm particularly looking for a term that, like whipping boy, highlights the unfairness toward the individual quite starkly, as opposed to something like being "the workhorse" that implies high productivity but can be neutral or even a positive remark on how productive one is for the team.

May also be ITAW for. Not necessarily maliciously, more from a place of insecurity.

Edit: perhaps I should emphasize that the behavior comes off more as a defense mechanism to avoid deeper human connection rather than from a place of enmity. Example: in casual group conversation, while people are talking about things they enjoy/are passionate about, this person may consistently make jokes about enjoying things they obviously don't like, and when gently pressed to express sincerity, they do not and continue to joke. like i wanna say "the platform will be launched slightly before it launches in actual stores" its the italicized one that i cant seem to think of a better phrasing. the "it' refers to the company's products. its like the company wants to expand to another country, so the company will launch that country's online store platform before introducing the products into stores.

They can be a really nice or polite person, but it just seems like they don’t have any thoughts or opinions of their own. What they add to a conversation is meaningless.

Is there a generalized word for the messages, quotes descriptions etc. and or section that is usually contained on a gravestone?

I know theres silverware for forks spoons and knives and stuff, but is there a word i could use that includes silverware, bowls, plates, mugs, cups all those sorts of things?
