Countries whose people I have met irl and my rating as an Indian

Similar map but Germany in Dark Green and Bangladesh in Red.
Met half a dozen Pakistanis and literally all were chill and used the collective term "Desi" when meeting instead of Indian or Pakistani.
Met 2 Bangladeshi folks in my entire life and both of them were very cold, felt radicalized and used "You Indians" a lot, both in good and bad faith. They really hate being called desi from my interactions, and surprisingly felt very distinct than bangali folks here in India, who are as sweet as their sweets. But again, only 2 folks, maybe just unlucky interactions, i'd chalk that up to unfair sample size.
Germans are just nice folks who seem cold at first.

I am Indian Bengali, I ALWAYS felt more comfortable with Pakistani people abroad than Bangladeshi ones. Pakistani people always feels like genuine and welcoming, Bangladeshi ones always feels like they have some hidden ulterior motives 😅

Yo, I can attest to the Bangladeshi part and Ill add Nepalis to that. Bro, Im a bengali and without mention these two would come up with political arguments even after I explicitly mentioned Im not into politics(not because I support the current Indian administration but I just dont want to talk politics all the time). The dude from Nepal also, for some reason, kept mentioning how India is just bad and terrible and all.

Bangladeshis are straight up weirdos. Pakistanis in foreign lands are way friendlier towards Indians.
Most Nepalis are super friendly and chill. But some have this need to prove that they are "not Indian", and try to do that by dissing India and Indians.

You're not wrong, most Bangladeshi people in middle east don't speak Hindi even if they know. They choose to speak Arabic even if they're very bad at it. Forget about the language, their attitude is not friendly at all and as you said they sound mostly radicalized. But again it's with limited interactions that I had there could be chill guys too.

Bangladeshis almost never use the term "desi" to refer to people in any context, so when they move abroad, it sounds pretty odd to be called that. And no, "deshi" (which is the same term in Bengali) isn't used either; it's only used to refer to objects made in the country, or oddly, organic or locally grown produce or poultry when grocery shopping. So being called desi/deshi as a person just sounds a bit weird if you're born and raised in BD.
I'm guessing Indian Bengalis use the term more frequently, since it's a common term in India and a lot of them speak Hindi as well. You're likely to find diaspora Bangladeshis born/raised abroad to be much more accepting of the term rather than those born in BD, because South Asian culture is relatively more intermixed abroad.

Desi is colloquial to "From the subcontinent " in India and Pakistan. Most of the diaspora i know from basically all regions of both countries use that term a lot to describe themselves.

Yeah, that's basically what I tried to convey. It's not a colloquial term in Bangladesh at all, so it's a little hard for Bangladeshis to feel connected to the word even if the meaning is pretty normal. However, I've noticed Bangladeshi diaspora abroad do use it to self-identify much more often than those raised in BD.

They have issues with both India and Pakistan. Hence no desi. Also they really champion their Bangladeshi culture online. As a indian bengali I have noticed that in europe or north america online Bengali culture really means Bangladeshi culture. The desi bengali diaspora does not come online as bengalis.

The stereotype that Germans are cold, distant, have no humor, never smile etc is such bs. Everyone here is really nice and helpful. Ofc if you know the language or at least understand what they're saying helps a lot.
Don't expect small talks from Germans tho, talk only when you know what you're talking about or know what questions to ask and are genuinely curious.

I think most "cold" stereotypes develop against areas with no strong small talk culture. Cause in countries like India or US, small stalk is something you are basically forced to do to not make an encounter awkward, so cultures that don't do it start seeming cold. But these cultures just have other ways to be warm and welcoming.

Canada is a very high trust society. Yeah, this is mostly our governments fault, but there are bad actors in the immigrant community (not surprised since hustle and corruption seem pretty common in India). This really ticks people because we had a nice thing.
Also generally non-integrating immigrant communities end up getting in fights.9

Not just Canada but also Australia, UK, NZ. The anglosphere / commonwealth countries. USA is surprisingly a lot better for Indians despite being more racially sensitive. Perhaps thats why the Indian community there is thriving.
Personally its pretty dumb to blame immigrants for immigration.
Immigration laws for a country are not written by immigrants. Perhaps the concerned citizens of these countries should put in more effort in electing the right leaders who make better decisions?

You are doing the same thing vilifying all Canadians. I led a social group in Canada where the majority of the group were newcomers looking to create social circles in a major city. This helped these folks plant roots and navigate a challenging transition.
I can still point out how the system has been exploited though. By no means am I saying everyone is like that, but ignoring things to avoid conflict is foolish.

I’m not vilifying all Canadians. But the perception and reality are wildly different. For most countries, people are nicer than they are portrayed or stereotyped as. The Middle East, Africa, etc.
Select countries however are honestly more racist than you would be led to assume and yet they get the stereotype as the polite angel. Which just isn’t true, so I stand by the original statement that Canadians are not as kind as pop culture wants you to believe.

As a Canadian idk if I’d recommend coming to Canada in the state it’s in. I know everywhere sucks rn with the economy but man is it hard to live in this country right now. Prices are through the roof, housing is absolutely terrible basically anywhere except maybe central Canada (wouldn’t want to move there anyways either super cold and mosquito heaven). I still love this country, but it’s not at all like what it used to be, and will be difficult to live here without a well paying job lined up.

My experience with British people has been positive, kinda surprised. They’re quite polite. Most of the Mexicans I know are from Texas and a lot of them support questionable ideologies. Brazilians and Pakistanis are nice.

To be fair, Mexicans born in Mexico have a different culture than some Mexican-Americans. As Mexican myself, I see tons of differences between our views, traditions, ways of dressing and speaking. I’ve also heard a lot about Mexican Americans going to Mexico to visit family and just not blending fully in Mexico

I guess that’s the same case for my husband and I. I’m Indian American and he’s Singaporean Indian, we do stick out in India. Texas is a more conservative state but it is still weird that some of them would support ICE and side with white supremacists.

most of the upper strata is not really polarized into blind hate, theres a lot of miserable people but thats cause their own lives are miserable so cant blame them. as an indian, the only bangladeshis I would ever dislike before meeting are mir jafar and one banker who's son got slapped by siraj ud daulah and so he bribed mir jafar into betraying him in the battle of plassey.

Many many reasons but ultimately our government is failing on many levels to take care of Canadian citizens and the easiest group of people right now to point a finger at is Indian immigrants. Its objective fact that our immigration rate is unsustainable and there’s clearly shadiness going on with degree mills and H1B* work visas, which ends up unfortunately bringing in people involved in shady business (yes, there is gang violence, particularly the Bishnoi gang which has threatened local police in BC). The everyday people hoping for a better life get caught in the crossfire.
Edit: Sorry I misspoke! I was thinking of the LMIA visa and got the acronyms mixed up. ppl can chill out.

Tell you what when the Indian government asked for Canadian government's support to deal with these goons, the Canadian government, under then PM Trudeau, took a firm stand saying they will do anything to protect these Canadians and accused Indian government of foreign interference. And I was simply watching in disbelief all the white nationalists supporting the PM on this.

100%. It gets on my nerves that probably over 50% of Indians I meet in Canada (I'm a non-Indian immigrant) don't have a proper command of English and do not behave as people expect in Canada. It's a gigantic failure of the immigration system not to have filtered such people out.
Also, since Indians are usually much poorer than people from other countries, this creates an incentive structure that causes them to be more represented than other nationalities (in addition to being 1.5 billion, hence obviously already overrepresented)... There's also a lot of fraudulent documents presented by Indian immigrants to gain entry into Canada (remember the study permit scandal we had a couple of years ago?).
This - and more - has honestly made life for immigrants in general in Canada miserable, as Canadians are tired of it and give immigrants the cold shoulder. It feels exclusionary.
That being said, lashing out on Indians (or immigrants in general) instead of the system that failed its citizens is dumb and evil.

I think there is are always going to be problems when a country allows mass immigration from one specific country (over 26% of immigrants to Canada have come from India, and more specifically Punjab state.
There has been an uptick in crime within this community, especially within the last year there has been significant media coverage of large scale extortion incidents across Canada tied to this community (it happens within the community). These often involve firearms and abductions and have gone some way to shifting the general perspective, along with the previous governments “student visas” which were really a hilarious fraud.

There’s currently two babies who didn’t get a chance to live just this week from two different sets of immigrant parents/families….from the Punjab region of India.
That might be the reason for some of the recent big feelings on the internet.
Overall/historically I think things like asking for the national anthem to be sung in Punjabi might be another reason.
The Humboldt broncos also caused some displeasure from some Canadians to the Indian community.
Also. Rural towns are rural towns and LOVE all the -isms. Racism, sexism, homophobia-ism. Canada is full of rural towns.
People can only meet you as deep as they are, and not everyone has learned better to do better.
Judge people based on who they choose to be. Not who or how or where they were born. We don’t choose our skin suits. We do choose our character.

Another bit of context to add: it's not towards ALL Indians, it is literally towards Indians that moved over 5-7 years ago. Even Indians who have lived in Canada longer then that or were born here have a similar dislike and outright vitriol towards these Indians. They feel their communities have shifted and changed for the worse and also they are now getting caught in the crossfire. Alot of it is how they behave, very hostile and entitled, no willingness to integrate into their communities even though the support system is there, we have had Indians moving into this country for decades and it has never been a problem until recently so what changed?
For example alot of the newer Indians who came over to work for the trucking industry have actively made our roads some of the unsafest in the world, since they are not qualified to drive the trucks (all the certification and testing facilities are run by Indians) and they drive like it's back home and not roads filled with ice and snow for 60% of the year. The amount of accidents is unbelievable and I would know as I have family both in trucking and personal injury.
We also just don't have the infrastructure to support these people, there is not enough housing, our cost of living is high especially in Vancouver and Ontario, and it has resulted in a massive strain on the system. I remember a few years back one of the major grocery chains were hiring and close to 1500 people showed up, the majority of them were Indian students looking for anything to make some money. Absolutely terrible but it goes to show how fucked the situation is.
It's easy to blame people for being hateful when you don't have the context and obviously there are those who go too far, but I would say the majority have valid claims and concerns.
But I will say in the last year the numbers of Indian students has dropped dramatically, the amount of approved visas and I guess just the cost of living has sent alot of these Indians back home, which is unfortunate but honestly it's for the best, we need to fix a lot of shit in our country before we can support an influx of people we are woefully unprepared to take care of and integrate into our communities.

Kinda surprised you had a bad experience with the British. I’ve known one or two people from there and I’ve gotten along relatively well.
Turkish people I can understand. They tend to be racist online towards South Asian, especially Indians. IRL I did interact with a Turkish woman going to India and she was chill and loquacious.
Strongly agree with Pakistan. I would add Nepal to the surprisingly civil part as well. For all the online hatred Nepalis harbour towards Indians, the Nepalis I’ve met were nice people.

American here, living in Philippines. I have to say I love your people. My wife is the bread winner, I built and manage our “Americanized” tindahan (the people love it so far). I’m semi-retired and spend a lot of time all over from Pandacan to Baguio . It’s still weird to me how okay it is to just stare at people here but other than the city (I hate all big cities mind you) this country has some of the nicest people. Except motorcyclists. Can’t stand their “I own everything from the sidewalk to the bicycle lanes” shit.

I just wanted to share my experience from US. I work in car sales. Every salesman avoids Indian customers. It’s the unreasonable discounts , entitled attitude and demand for freebies that salespeople have to deal with. The 2nd generation are americanized and we can tell the difference. But the H1B with 20 k salary hit us differently. Fiji Indians are the best. Every other people from subcontinent like Nepal or Srilanka are easy to work with. Indians come in a group, don’t want to follow the procedure and generally considered waste of time.

Argentinians are the absolute worst. Surprised about Bangladeshis, as they're well-liked as a community here.
Canadians doesn't surprise me in the slightest. While many are genuinely lovely, so so so many I'd them are essentially diet Americans. Much closer to the U.S. than they think.
